Boleyn Tudor Vampire

Rate this book
The slightest tweak in history makes all the difference in its outcome... Tudor England. It is during the reign of King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. As her time in power nears an end, Anne is greatly disheartened by the false accusations of adultery, high treason and incest she is arrested for, and the cold-heartedness of her father for his lack of defense in her honor. Upon her death, she vows revenge on those who have wronged her, and the simple change of her death sentence from beheading to hanging grants her the opportunity to execute her wish on those who betrayed her. Unknown forces of inconceivable dark magic abounds. Anne discovers she has risen from her grave because of her denouncement of God just moments before her hanging, and resurrects two others from their untimely, wrongful deaths--her brother, George, and her favorite court musician and dear friend, Mark Smeaton. This unlikely trio will drive Whitehall Palace to madness, bringing those closest to Anne to their knees, begging for mercy and forgiveness. Once Anne executes her justice among those who have failed her, the last and final question will be whether Anne will finally have peace, or find comfort in haunting England forever.

I liked the premise of this book and as a lifelong Anne Boleyn fan I thought it sounded interesting.

I enjoyed the storyline and thought the book was well written. However, the book didn;t quite hit the mark for me partly down the the characterisation - I don;t know if it was because I know so much about the people and the time involved that I wasn't quite able to separate those historical figures from the alternate reality ones found in this novel.

That said the book was enjoyable and I would read more boosk by the author - this one just didn;t quite hit the mark for me and for that reason only gets 4 stars.

Anne Boleyn wakes up damp and cold. She quickly deduces that she is in her grave. To her ire she realizes that a shallow grave in the burial grounds of the Chapel of St. Peter ad Vincula, (a stone's throw from the Tower of London) is her final testing place. The Queen is angry. Not only had a last minute decision caused her to be hanged rather than beheaded, she was buried in an unmarked grave as if she was a common nobody! She, Anne Boleyn, who until yesterday, was Queen of England and the mother of the King's legitimate and rightful heir, her precious daughter Elizabeth. She soon finds that she is not alone as her favorite court musician Marc Smeaton & her brother George have also escaped their graves. She is pleased to find Sir Thomas Wyatt mourning her in the Cemetary. He is incredulous at the sight of his dead lover, as he witnessed her execution and burial.

Anne is out for revenge. She had been wrongly charged, tried and convicted of treason and witchcraft and sentenced to death along with five innocent men including brother George and Marc. They quickly realize that George's body cannot withstand his undead life but Anne & Marc revel in their new, supernatural forms. With Sir Thomas as their human conduit, they commence plans for a campaign of terror against the King and his court.

As the "hauntings" begin, Anne learns that her necessary feeding have created dangerous beings who are wildly out of control and a threat to innocents. She also learns that her predecessor, Queen Catherine's ghost can protect some of Anne's intended victims. As a result Jane Seymour manages to final bear a son and heir, much to Anne's fury.

Anne, with a little help from Marc and Sir Thomas manages to wreak havoc at court and bring the King to the brink of insanity. The "Vampire" Queen becomes so blood thirsty that her love and ally her quest Sir Thomas makes it his mission to stop her forever.

I love historical fiction AND vampire tales, so I really enjoyed BOLEYN TUDOR VAMPIRE. Great read for all those who liked the zombie version of Sense & Sensability and the many other similar novels. I thought the author did a great job with the characters and the story. I look forward to trying other books from her ABAXAS series.

I enjoy a good Vampire story from time to time, I really like how dark and disturbing some parts of thisbook were, the revenge of Anne Boleyn kicks ass because if you do not know the true history behind the Tudor family you have got to read about it~!!. I also LOVE the Sexual areas in the book I love a good hot scene . I know this sounds funny but there was some twisted humor in there as well, and I LOVED every second of it. Personally I think Ms. Cinsearae S. did a kick ass job on writing this book!I rate this book a 4 out of 5 if you like vampire book this is a good book to pick up and read .

Anne Boleyn gets her revenge. Ahahahahaha!

I always thought AB was treated unfairly, and I hope she wreaks havoc on the Tudor court.

While I enjoyed the first offering of this author’s Abraxas series, I can’t help but have mixed feelings about Boleyn – Tudor Vampire. As always, Cinsearae’s writing flows and she’s good at telling a story but, unfortunately in this instance, that’s the rub: too much tell and not enough show. Set during the reign of Henry VIII, this tale could have been so much stronger had Cinsearae made the effort to breathe more life into the setting.

In a nutshell Henry has Anne offed so he can marry his next wife, Jane. Anne dies with unholy thoughts in her mind, thereby, in a similar vein as our favourite count, cursing herself to number among the undead upon her resurrection. What follows is purely revenge, as this queen of the undead goes about exacting payback from those who wronged her while she was alive. A ghost, vampires and shuffling zombies number among her side-kicks, exacting a high body count, which should satisfy those with an appreciation for splatterpunk, maggots and spilled body fluids.

I set out reading this book, wanting to like it. And I really tried to like it, but it didn’t work for me in the end. While the writing itself was relatively clean of the typical grammar gremlins and typographical errors one normally associates with a self-published work, I must admit the numerous misplaced modifiers did me in. I don’t like sounding harsh, but this novel needed a stronger editor. For one, I felt Anne, as a supernatural creature, didn’t have any limitations and, by consequences, didn’t truly fulfill try/fail cycles in her journey that should make me clutch the edge of my seat while reading.

This is not a bad story. There were moments when characters’ comments were almost funny –as in Evil Dead, Bad Taste or Brain Dead humour, if you’re into those films – but I kept stumbling over the often sassy contemporary dialogue, lack of world-building and unclear motivations of the assorted characters. This is Tudor England, not modern NYC. And yes, while I can appreciate this is a revenge story, as a reader, I needed a more visceral plunge into a sense of history and place. I wanted to gain a sense of the highly complex interactions between the assorted parties in a royal court. I wanted the layer of dirt itching just beneath the surface and support characters who are more than cardboard cut-out concepts.

So, while this yarn has a promising premise, it misses its mark, I’m afraid.

This was a very historically inaccurate portrayal of the Tudor court during the time of Henry VIII. While I can accept a certain level of fantasy the author was trying to portray, simple facts were ignored that just annoyed me as a reader. I am a fan of this period and have read many novels set in this time, and this had to be one of the most far fetched in terms of the story. It's obvious that the writer has put some effort into the background and research into the time period and the brutality, but it hasn't translated well with the addition of the fantasy that Anne Boleyn has come back to haunt Henry as a vampire.

I wanted to love this book but somehow it fell flat for me. The premise held so much promise and Cinsearae is a great writer but (and perhaps the problem is I know far too much about that time period and the monarchy) I just couldn't see the people in the book acting the way she wrote them. Perhaps if they were completely fictional characters it would have been easier for me but since it was Anne Boleyn and others who actually existed and who had lives and personalities that were well documented, I just couldn't get lost in the book the way I hoped.

Boleyn, Tudor Vampire is a bit of a romp. There’s a lot of tongue-in-cheek going on here, and I for one, relished the tromping ol’ Henry gets by his very-wronged queen. It’s about time someone gave the old boy what-for. Mark Smeaton’s comments are a delight and the reactions of the Court to the hauntings are both horrifying and hilarious. It’s a supernatural tweaking of Tudor history combined with graveyard humor. A story to sit back, read, and savor.

The idea that Anne could come back and exact some revenge was an interesting notion for me, though it didn't play out as well as I had hoped it would. I would suggest this to anyone who has wondered what it would be like for her to come back, but to not expect too much from it.

Cracked-out morbid fun, short and sassy, but in need of an editor. Will review more thoroughly in my LJ as I promised.
