The third book in the Devil series by Diane Whiteside. Still had the heat but I was a little disappointed in the story. I'm not a big fan of the treasure hunt plot. But it was an okay read for me.

Could not finish, it held no interest for me whatsoever and when "the Consortium" (an 1800's Wild West secret society sex club) was mentioned, I literally rolled my eyes and put this book down for good.

Set after the US Civil War; a Confederate veteran is roped into helping his cousin’s widow (with whom he has his own passionate history) look for a gold mine. They have decent chemistry, but somehow not enough was riding on their relationship—finding the gold was important, but their relationship seemed less so and was generally obstacle-free. Pretty steamy as romance novels go, but not as naughty as it seemed to think—references to bonding and make another person beg were overblown compared to what actually happened. Just OK.

I did enjoy the book a lot. It wasn't as good as the 1st book of this series but it was still good. I also didn't like the abrupt ending and that along with it wasn't as good as the 1st, is why I gave this book 4 stars. I'm going to be reading the next book in the series and I hope it goes back to being as good as book #1.

I was disappointed in this one. Whilst initially characters are complicated and interesting later it devolves into a highly predictable romance with unconvincing motivations. I couldn't care deeply about the characters which is disappointing as I've come to expect that from Diane Whiteside.
