I love the more inductive method of learning Hebrew in this text compared to several of the other texts I have seen/read/used.

As someone who has spent too much money on buying Hebrew grammar books there are several things I liked about Dobson’s Learn Biblical Hebrew. Unlike other grammars, he continually motivates the student by providing biblical translation early on and directly from the text. After students read a passage he provides notes to help them with difficult passages. He employs a variety of methods to help students learn from drawing word pictures to comparing possible translations. I was able to finish his book because it was motivating and enjoyable. I would recommend this as a great starting place for self study students. Be warned however if you prefer deductive grammers this isn’t the place for you.

Learn Biblical Hebrew by Rev. John Dobson is a tremendous book that helps you learn the basics of the hebrew language and understanding the culture more. When I was learning biblical hebrew my professor recommened this book to me and it has helped me grasp a better understanding of the Hebrew language. Wonderful read!!

What makes this book so distinct is that it approaches biblical Hebrew almost like a spoken language. The exercises immediately have you reading and interpreting sentences, rather than spending weeks learning by rote memorization. I would especially recommend this book for those who are teaching themselves from scratch.
