When Ben's father has to suddenly go away over the half-term holiday, he has a big surprise for Ben - a very special robot to take his place. The only problem is that like lots of Dad's robots, this one doesn't quite work as well as expected.
I'm an author based in the north of England. Although I've spent most of my working life in schools and libraries, I've also had seven children's books published, as well as about 60 short stories in various magazines in the UK and Australia. In 2012 I set up a child-friendly story website, Megamousebooks.com, to offer free online children's stories, downloadable ebooks and puzzles. It's proving a full-time job, but a very enjoyable one. I've also been slowly producing free, abridged ebook versions of classic English novels, and selections of well-known poetry. These are now available from my second website, Englishliteratureebooks.com.
Following on from Alice Hemming's first book - The Black and White Club - with its themes of 'you are okay just as you are' comes her second book Robopop. I was pleased to see that the overall message remains the same although this time the focus is on a parent and the children having to learn the 'okay' message about their parent. The illustrations are perfectly matched to the tone of the narrative; concise and colourful. I feel that Robopop is suitable for all readers, and I would highly recommend this book for children with additional learning differences such as dyslexia and visual stress.
I was given this book to read and review in my capacity as a Patron of Reading.
