A View from the Tower contains poetry and the novella “The Legend of Siberia Beach.” It is the story of an old lifeguard who, in his prime, was well-respected and saved many people. Now in his fifties, the lifeguard has been moved to a desolate beach referred to as Siberia. The beach attracts few patrons. The two young lifeguards who work with the old guard consider him a relic of a previous age, too old to be a competent lifesaver. They have no respect for him. The lifeguard’s superiors would like to retire him. He is even considered incompetent. However, as head guard of his beach, he regularly trains his crew to professionally handle any situation. At the same time, a feeling of doom haunts the old lifeguard, as a recurring dream hints of a tragedy in the near future, and soon the old guard will face the greatest challenge of his career.
