HC, New, Mighty Prince Kamur of the barbarian Ibeks threatens Tarzan's life but his lover, Queen Nikotris of the rival Egyptian civilisation lost in the jungle, sets herself between them. Published in January of 1993. Hardcover, 10 1/2-in. x 14-in., 64 pages, full color. Cover price $35.00.
Vol 3 shows the strengths and lapses of the uncredited writer of this strip. He seldom introduces a gratuitous menace at the end of a Sunday page to create fake suspense for next week, but often creates that suspense with a new plot point. On the other hand, the overall story structure becomes repetitive. If Tarzan meets a new group of people, someone in power will take a dislike to him and try to have him killed. If he meets a woman, he will need to protect her from danger. This has just begun to grow tiresome. Will vol 4 be better? Hal Foster’s art is still superb, and that helps a lot. Bill Blackbeard did not write this introduction, so that too is worth reading.
