This microbiology colouring book asks the reader to colour a series of figures that convey microbiological principles and processes. An efficient review of all areas pertinent to a microbiology course, it simplifies the learning process and provides visually appealing figures that can be used for future study. The act of colouring helps students understand the structure and processes of microbiology, and how they relate to one another.
I haven't fully coloured in every page of the book, but I've been doing the pages relating to my university modules this year and completed a fair number of pages now. This book has been a really nice, easy and fun way to do a bit of revision during my spare time, I was especially pleased that the book was bigger than I expected and about a third of it is dedicated to Immunology which I struggle with. It covers topics from basic microbiology to bacterial and viral replication, protozoa, fungi, antibiotics (and a few other drugs), basic epidemiology, a lot of basic immunology plus with more detail on hypersensitivity, examples of common laboratory tests like bacterial isolation/cultivation, ELISAs, radioimmunoassays, agglutination tests, lots of explanations on a variety of diseases including STIs, foodborne/ waterborne/ soilborne/ vector/ respiratory/ nervous system/ digestive system pathogens, plus some fungi, protozoa and helminth examples; lastly there are a few pages on microbiology use in industry such as pasteurisation, water treatment/purification and beer fermentation.
Colouring makes learning more fun all round, I just wish I had got this and all the other related biology colouring books during my first year of university. They're only about £10 each too! The reason I don't give it 5 stars is because a little more detail and updated knowledge would be nice, it's probably a bit more suited to A levels and first year of university and perhaps a book all on Immunology on it's own would be awesome. However it is always good for getting revision on the basis of a topic in order to learn it in higher detail.
