Nikita Harrell's drive and determination took her to the pinnacle of the New York publishing world. And it also swept her into the arms of Quinn Parker. A proud man with the soul of an artist and the strength to survive on the mean streets of Harlem, Quinn was everything Nikita had been taught to stay away from-and the one man whose passionate courage ignited desires neither could deny. But when Nikita refused to settle for less than a picture-perfect life, she lost the only man she ever loved. Now Quinn is back in her life as the author of a hot new novel that could propel Nikita's publishing house to unimaginable success. To secure both their futures means confronting the differences that once tore them apart, and fighting the reignited desire that burns more fiercely than either ever dreamed. Now, as unexpected rivals and a sudden crisis force them to gamble for one last, desperate chance to reconcile their dreams, can they fulfill the love that has claimed them body and soul?
The story as a whole was very good. I was shocked that they didn't make it. I really believe Nikita brought out the best in him, forcing him to work to his full potential.
I purchased all the books in this series but I wish I would've read this one first before I purchased all of them because I probably wouldn't have. This was an alright read for me.
4.5 Stars! Wow, where do I begin? Quinn Parker is a twin with a hard knock life street tales are made of. The only person he believes himself capable of loving and being loved by is his twin Lacy. Theirs is a comfortable, unconditional love bound by abandonment and reliance on each other. Max is Lacy's best friend and secretly in love with Quinn since childhood, though he has no idea. A single loss changes everything for everyone. Nikita is the privileged daughter in a prominent family. She doesn't know anything about the hard realities of average people her age. When Quinn and Nikita meet it is during a transitional time for both. Despite the disparities in their upbringing, they decide that the vibe between them is just too strong to ignore. Though Quinn is only willing to give but so much of himself, Nikita seems content to take what is offered. There is a gradual shift in the relationship over time...so subtle that neither realizes it at first. The price to pay for staying true to yourself while still trying to evolve proves challenging. I love thst the author stated Quinn's truth as well as Niki's realization. Nikita eventually does to Quinn what her parents have done to her. Quinn realizes it well before she does. There are some people that you meet who accept the person you are and others that see it as their duty to instill in you all that they believe you can be. They see themselves as exposing you to some things you would not have known otherwise but the message the recipient receives is that you don't think they're good enough as they are. Nikita is warned that you have to allow a man to discover his potential on his own, in his own way, on his own timeframe. Easier said than done since her parents charted the path she was to follow even down to the man she should select. I really enjoyed this book. The common theme in most of the books I've read by Donna Hill seems to be life after a loss due to death. Would love to engage the author about why. Well written. Highly recommend

I did not want to read this book, why? because I read "Pieces of Dreams" first and kinda thought I knew what book one was about. During a conversation with Donna Hill I mentioned this she said my thoughts were thoughts of many of her readers but she encouraged me to give Nikita a shot, find out what I can about Quinn that wasn't in the second book. And no surprised but I love the book and love Maxine more.
