Chakras for Starters: Unlock the Hidden Doors to Peace & Well-Being

Rate this book
Long a popular subject in metaphysical and Eastern spirituality circles, interest in the chakras has recently crossed over into the consciousness of mainstream America. Yet, for all of the new found interest, until now, there has yet to be written a concise, easy-to-read guide to this most intriguing of topics. In Chakras for Starters, Savitri Simpson demystifies and explains what chakras are, how to work with them, and the benefits accrued from doing so. Readers will learn how working with the chakras can help them feel a greater sense of security, self-control, heartfulness, centeredness, intuition, and spiritual transformation.

Some of the information is wrong, such as the chakra colours. This is not yogic knowledge but new age guesswork.

I used this book as a refresher course on Chakras. What I loved about the book is the fact that for every Chakra author has not only stated the feelings driven by the aligned chakra, but also by mis-aligned Chakra - something which helps do an additional level of validation on your interpretation and understanding of the Chakra. Second good thing about the book is a story to explain the worldly manifestation of the Chakra - again helps you understand the Chakra better.

This isn't a book for in-depth study of Chakras (as the name also indicates). I wouldn't agree that it is even for Starters either, though - language needs to be simplified if it has to be made relevant for Starter. But a refresher - yes definitely. Will I read this again - most likely yes.

Just finished this book which I purchased about some 7-8 years back. But it really feels great to read it on the last day of 2025.

I am in love...with this book!

I know Savitri personally, she was one of my teachers during my meditation teacher training.
I can tell from what she has written in this book that it is based off of years of her own experience, knowledge that she has gained from travel & research, and her own spiritual growth.

I felt as though she was talking to me in this book. All of my experiences through meditation were reaffirmed, as well as my beliefs and philosophy towards living life with expanded awareness and higher consciousness.

Savitri describes each chakra with such detail that can only come from inner awareness. The book is very simple to understand and can be read in a day. Savitri provides meditations for each chakra at the end of the chapters and a chart at the end of the book, which makes it easy to follow and understand.

I have already utilized this book in teaching my own meditation classes and will be going back to it again and again!
