Whether they're flirting en espanol, gossiping over mojitos, or dancing with their latest papi chulos, these characters prove that there is nothing quite like a night out with your chicas. Set in New York City, Miami's South Beach, downtown Chicago, and L.A., these four flirty novellas explore dating, marriage, friendship, and sex, through the eyes of four different Latina women.
Mary Castillo's Friday Night in L.A.: Isela isn't looking for a one night stand; she's desperate for one last shot at saving her career. Her ticket is Hollywood's director du jour Tyler Banks but one major mistake could cost her everything.
Caridad Pineiro's Friday Night in South Beach: It's Tori's thirtieth birthday and all she wants is a nice quiet night with her family and friends. However, Tori's friends have other plans and during an overnight casino cruise, Tori finds herself taking the gamble of her life!
Berta Platas's Friday Night in Chicago: The once shy Cali has decided to attend her high school reunion. She slips into her slinkiest Donna Karan and puts on her highest Manolos. After all, she's out to seek revenge, Latina-style. . .
Sofia Quintero's Friday Night in New York City: Gladys's friends throw her a bachelorette party at one of NYC's raunchiest male strip joints. They expected a party, but they didn't expect the not-so-blushing bride to disappear with one of the strippers!
Mary Castillo's novels have turned romance and mystery readers into dedicated fans. She is the author of The Dori O. Paranormal Mysteries starting with Lost in the Light and Girl in the Mist. Her romantic comedies include Switchcraft, In Between Men and Hot Tamara and novellas featured in the anthologies, Orange County Noir, Names I Call My Sister and Friday Night Chicas.
"My Favorite Mistake" review by Bela--Mary Castillo is a pretty good story-teller, but it just seems that she should stick to short stories instead of lengthy novels, which seem to go nowhere. Out of all her books, this was the best one.
"Hearts are wild" review by Celia--I liked Tori. I could relate to her in almost every way—from her putting work first above all else, including love, to having friends practically shove a man-whore in your face. Even your own mother!
"Revenge of the fashion goddess" review by Sandra--This story had a bunch of flawed reality, full of repressed fear and personal growth, which made for a true-to-life page-turner.
"The more things change" review by Minnie--Ultimately, I feel that this story just did not belong in a book filled with stories of love burgeoning from a wild Friday night. Not that it was a bad story. It actually was a critical study of how women forge lasting friendships, even if it doesn’t really last forever.
Warning this is chick-lit, if you are male or are females that do not favor this type of literature then pass on reading this, it's in your own best interest. I picked this book up at the local library.....wait that sounds a little trashy.....I selected this book because I needed something fun to read. Something non-committal, quick and easy.
OMG!!! I totally luved this book! It is so "latina"! You can relate to all the characters and the way they talk.....you know that some of these stories are just like you & your friends! Talk about real....a must read for a hispanic woman!
Really enjoyed each short story. The stories were definitely Sexy Stories from La Noche! They make you wish they each could have been developed into a whole book.
I read this decades ago but it is still one of my favorite novels to read as a Latina in the USA. It has the right balance of Spanglish. The characters are believable. I love the attitude because it represents the diversity in our country. You don't have to be Latina to enjoy it. I won't give spoilers. But definitely worth reading.
So I read the first two short stories early January, and then I finished the last two now. So I can only mostly remember the last two stories, they were ok. I just wasn’t that interested and couldn’t relate and it didn’t make me really want to finish reading it but I did want to know how they were going to end each story but then they didn’t even give you all the details to the stories!
