Private Eye Robin Miller trudged down the ice-slick sidewalk wondering which was worse: the miserably cold New York winter, the dead-end case she couldn't seem to crack, or the fact that her lover K.T. Bellflower's entire family had just descended upon them like an army of Kentucky locusts. Of course, that was before Robin's sultry ex-lover arrived on the scene ... and K.T.'s 15-year-old niece disappeared in the middle of Times Square
Some parts were fine, some parts were Alice In Wonderland level of insanity. Like the male character at the end who's coincidentally strolling around his so-called territory at 3am on an icy NYC night just so a certain plot twist can happen? Are you serious book? Are you serious right now? The encounter between this male character and the protagonist was so absurd I had to hold my head in my hands to get through it.
Very glad to see that this book, the last one in the series, was the most sane in terms of how the romantic sub-plot developed and got solved. Cause, not gonna lie, I was real worried about a third of the way in. But the author surprised me big time by turning the resolution of the romantic sub-plot into something actually decent. Well done!
I love Jaye Maiman's Robin Miller mystery series which was published by Naiad Press in the 90's. Seven books, all in all, and every one of them is great. There's love and pain and humour . . . and always a good thriller!
There's a rumour she's writing again . . . I'm anxiously waiting . . . want to know how Robin and KT are doing!
A fun read, like all her others. The good news is that they are consistently entertaining. The bad news is that all her books are so much alike that if feels like I'm reading the same one over and over again. That said, I will immediately begin the process of acquiring the next one. What can I say? They're potato chips.
Robin manages some reconciliation with her mother. She and KT are planning to move to New Jersey and start a family. So, I guess it's the end of the road for Robin's sleuthing and series of unfortunate liaisons.
But I've enjoyed the books…the locations, mysteries, mishaps, various gorgeous women…it was a fun roller coaster ride.
