Maybe Kelly Greenwood shouldn't have been so... honest when she lambasted NASCAR pretty boy Trent Matheson on national TV. All the sports psychologist wanted was to give a memorable sound bite. But maybe she took it too far? Because now Trent's team wants Kelly to devise a plan to whip their on-again, off-again racing star into shape. There's just one hitch-- Trent doesn't think he needs some professional to dig into his psyche, especially someone who is totally unimpressed by him. And Kelly has only one week to convince Trent that he does need her-- body and soul.
I write funny, tender romance novels for Harlequin Superromance and Love Inspired Historical.
My next book to be released is That New York Minute, out in April 2012.
I like to set aside some of my writing time for experimental projects - I'm currently trying my hand at a humorous women's fiction novel, and I also finished a Young Adult manuscript.

Kelly Greenwood was a sports psychologist and she wanted to work with Nascar because she knew and loved the sport. She was invited to be a participant on a TV program and was asked who she thought would win the Nascar Nextel Cup Series. She stated that Trent Matheson was too inconsistent a driver to win. The other three guests on the show disagreed with her. She suggested that he would crash his car halfway through the next race and 1 lap after halfway through the race, he did indeed crash his car. The television program called her and she was quoted as saying he was an airhead and then they hung up on her. Trent's brother, Chad, hired Kelly to work with Trent to find out why he was unable to focus and stop the pattern that he had developed on winning 2 races, crashing 2 races, over and over again. Trent decided to act stupid and not listen to Kelly. He changed his mind when his father asked him for some help hiring a new secretary for his company, Matheson Performance Industries. Chad and Trent were both competing for ownership of the company from their father as he was thinking of retiring. Trent was known for always having a blonde on his arm and not taking any of his dates seriously. He stayed up late and partied often. Kelly was also hired to watch over him 24/7 until she discovered what his distraction turned out to be. Kelly soon found out that even with Trent's reputation with women, he didn't sleep with any of them. Women oftentimes kissed him for show when camera's were around and Trent allowed it for his image. Trent did kiss Kelly one night and he had a hard time forgetting that kiss. Kelly knew that she still wasn't getting all the information she needed to help Trent. She tried following him one Wednesday but she soon found out that Trent had spotted her. He sent her flowers and chocolates from stores that she had seen him enter. Trent and Kelly worked together till to find a new secretary/assistant for Trent's father, Brady. They hired 48 yr-old Julie Ann Blake. She showed up for work and Brady, who was now 58 and father to Chad, Zach and Trent. He thought that she looked familiar and was surprised at his attraction to her. He hadn't felt that way in a long time. His wife had been dead for 15 years and he had remained single. He thought she looked younger and was worried about her being able to handle being is secretary/assistant. His son, Zach, had previously been involved in racing but left the family business and had moved to Atlanta. Chad was the one who Brady had plans to leave his business too but Trent wanted the position of leadership and was working hard to gain his father's approval. Kelly followed Trent one Wednesday and found out that he was being tutored to graduate from college with a degree in motor sports management. He told Kelly that he wanted to take over his father's company when he retired. Kelly told Trent that as long as he did well racing that he wouldn't want to quit at the peak of his racing career. He couldn't win the cup because his father wouldn't want him to quit and he didn't want to lose for fear that his father would think that he was a loser and not capable of running the business. It was a no win situation for Trent but he already knew that. This was the distraction that was keeping him from winning at racing and getting the cup that he so badly wanted. Kelly's brother, Josh, was getting married in a few days. He came by to pick up Kelly one afternoon and managed to get Kelly to introduce him to Trent. Trent then managed to get Kelly to invite him to have dinner with her and her family. They seemed to like Trent and they invited him to the wedding. Trent noticed that Kelly seemed to shrink around her family and was pretty quiet. Kelly was worried about Trent's opinion of her after finding out that her family didn't agree with her choice of profession. He did notice that her family seemed to disrespect her but it didn't seem to change his opinion of her. He kissed her goodnight when his taxi came to pick him up at the end of the evening. She noticed that he waved to her brothers who were watching out the window. She thought that Trent had kissed her as a show to her family. Kelly came from a family of sports professionals. Josh was a Nascar driver. Her older brother, Dave, had been a top player in the NFL for the past 5 years. Her sister, Stacy, was one of the only women playing in the PGA. Kelly's father had been an NFL coach and her mother had been a long jumper who had once been selected for the Olympic squad. Kelly had mentioned that she went to college on an athletic scholarship but she seemed klutzy to him. Trent tried to guess throughout this story as to what sport that was. Josh's best man's wife had an emergency C-section which left him unable to attend the wedding. Trent had just finished a race which gave him enough points to be one of the 10 racers competing for the cup. Josh was there to congratulate him and ask if he would be the best man at his wedding. Trent agreed. Brady had asked Julie Ann to arrange a meeting so he could meet the new investment manager at Energy Oil, one of the company's race sponsors. Rick Johnstone's wife, Amy, was an old friend of hers. Brady was nervous about going on a double date for dinner. While they were on the date, Amy mentioned Julie Ann's ex-husband. He knew that their marriage hadn't been a happy one as his had been. Her ex had drank a lot and was verbally abusive to her. He had been involved in an accident which left him paralyzed. He then found out that he had cancer. Julie had sent her daughter to live with her sister, expecting her husband to die within 6 months. It turned out to be 7 years. That was enough time for her daughter to become almost a stranger to her. They were now working on rebuilding a relationship. Julie's husband had been gone for 10 years. Julie told Brady that she remembered meeting him years ago. Brady couldn't help being attracted to her and he kissed her goodnight as he dropped her off. Trent and Kelly were staying at her family's house when Josh came downstairs the morning of the wedding. Kelly ran into him in the kitchen and he didn't look so good. He told Kelly that even with the baby coming, he didn't know that getting married was the right decision. Kelly told him that he needed to make a decision one way or the other before he discovered he had made a mistake. Kelly took him into the den and gave him a list of about 8 questions that he needed to answer in order to determine if he was really in love with Nikki or not. He surprised everyone and called off the wedding. He told his family that he wasn't in love with Nikki and it would be a mistake to go through with the wedding. Her family was quick to blame Kelly and Trent jumped in and told her family that they should give Kelly a chance to explain her involvement. She explained how she gave questions to Josh and he didn't complete his given task of answering all of them. He just came to the conclusion that he felt was right and left it up to the family to back out of the wedding arrangements that had been made. Josh snuck away. The family backed off on their blame of Kelly and she really appreciated Trent's interference. Trent didn't feel right about his next race and ended up in 25th place. He was quick to blame his car and Kelly came back that he shouldn't blame something or someone else. He noticed Chad talking to Kelly and he asked her to work with another of their team drivers. Trent was not too happy about her talking to Chad. He didn't trust Kelly not to tell Chad about his attempts at educating himself. He also wanted her time for himself and made that clear to Chad. Kelly suggested that Trent tell his father and Chad about his going to school and his goal to take over MPI. He had a file with him of suggestions regarding the direction he wanted to go with the company. Chad got upset and told Trent that the business was going to be his and their father agreed. He gave Trent back the file he had prepared and told Trent that he expected him to continue racing and at some point in the future he would become the leader of the race team. Trent told him that wasn't what he wanted. He felt Chad would be better in that position as he was doing it now. Trent felt dismissed by his father and left the meeting disappointed. They were preparing for Talledega and Trent searched the internet and found out that Kelly had been a chess champion. Trent and Kelly talked and he asked Kelly if they could date after the cup was decided. Kelly told him that she didn't think so. He was too much like her family in his goals. She didn't feel like she could fit in to his life long term. She was in love with him by now and knew that she would want more and more of his time and felt he would eventually lose interest in her. Trent was unhappy because he was falling for Kelly. The next race he was in, he came in second behind Danny Cruise. That left Danny one point behind Trent in the race for the cup. Danny told Trent he wanted to meet with him and when he did, he told Trent to ask Kelly about what happened in New Zealand. Trent spoke with Kelly and she told him that a rugby player that she had been working with had not listened to her advice and had made a bad tackle during a game. The tackle led to a broken neck and his career in rugby was over. He and his family blamed Kelly. Trent was concerned over this and felt at the moment that he couldn't trust Kelly's advice any longer. Kelly told him that if he couldn't trust her that she couldn't work with him any longer. She told him that she would pick up her things from his office and leave. This left Trent feeling very bad about what he had done. He didn't do to well his next couple of races. He went over the paperwork Kelly had sent him and decided that the only thing missing in his schedule of things to do for a race was Kelly. He received a call from his father and Brady told him that he wanted the papers back that Trent had given him in regard to the company. He was willing to take a look at them. Trent had walked in and caught Brady and Julie-Ann kissing. Brady told Trent that it was due to Julie-Ann that he was willing to look at his proposals. Trent went and gave Julie-Ann a kiss on the cheek on his way out. Julie told him that he needed to apologize to Kelly now and give her a chance. Trent gave Kelly a call and told her that he needed her. She was at another job interview but came back. Trent did well in his next couple of races. Kelly thought Trent was listening to her advice but it soon became clear that he was treating her more like a good luck charm than as an advisor. Kelly was furious and told Trent that she quit. Brady and Julie talked and Julie told Brady that she wanted more from him than just sleeping with him. She wasn't willing to sleep with him until he offered more of a commitment to having a future with her. Brady wasn't willing. He told her that he liked his life the way it was and wasn't ready to make any changes. Julie knew by this time that she was in love with him and wanted more. She told him that maybe they should stop seeing each other. They had been to lunch and dinner every night for awhile and often shared breaks together. Brady was prepared to give a presentation to an investor and Julie noticed that he didn't look well. Brady said it was just indigestion. They went to the office and Brady gave the presentation and it went well. She noticed that he looked slightly worse and was rubbing his chest. Julie remembered the signs from her brother's heart attack and wrote a note to Brady telling him that he was having a heart attack and he needed to go to the hospital. He shook his head 'no'. Julie grabbed his papers and ran out of the room. Brady followed her and got in a taxi and she told the driver to take him to the hospital. Brady was furious but had no choice any more. The taxi driver had called ahead to the hospital and they were waiting for him. They took him immediately into surgery for a triple bypass. He survived the surgery and when he woke up, he asked Julie to marry him. She said 'yes'. The three boys came to see Brady and Brady told Trent that he was on equal footing with Chad as competition for taking over MPI upon his retirement. Zach told them all that he wanted to come back to the Matheson racing team the following year. Zach had left the team two years ago when he and Trent were competing for the final spot in the top ten going on to compete for the Nascar cup series. Trent had bumped Zach close to the end of the race and Zach had hit the wall. Zach accused Trent of doing it on purpose and left to race on another team. Things continued to go downhill for Zach and he had quit racing. Kelly was there with them and she was talking to Chad. Trent told Chad to find his own girl and to leave Kelly alone. Chad told them all then that he had married someone over a year ago. They were separated but he was still married. They were all shocked. Brady had agreed that Trent should go back and finish his presentation to the investors that he had left to go to the hospital. Trent finished the presentation and answered all their questions. Brady told Trent that he had done well and the investors were ready to sign with them. Trent was happy and he felt like celebrating. Trent then realized that it was Kelly he wanted to celebrate with and that he was in love with her. Kelly flew to Miami where the final race was being held for the Cup Series. Her family met her there because the final race for the Busch Series was being held there too and she was going to see her brother, Josh race. She was approached by reporters who surprised her and asked about her time in New Zealand. She told them that she had no comment and they did leave but after her family had heard and were starting to get onto her about what they had overheard. For the first time, Kelly turned on her family and told them that she was a member of their family and they owed it to her to support her and listen to her side of what happened before condemning her. They agreed and then Josh told her that his fiancée's father worked for that TV station and the story had gotten to them because of them breaking off the wedding. He told Kelly that he had finished the questionnaire that she had given him and he was going to apologize to Nikki and ask her to marry him again after the race that evening. Zach heard the story on the late night news and he went on air stating that Kelly had helped him turn his racing around. She had helped him to be in the running for the cup. He then showed up at Kelly's hotel room and he told her that he loved her. Kelly told him that she didn't believe him. She told him that she wasn't his good luck charm and regardless of what he said she wouldn't be at the racing standing by Rod so that he could win. She told him that he wasn't coming to ask her to marry him so he could leave. He was surprised and told her that he wasn't. He had just come to realize that he loved her. He hadn't thought any further than that. She hadn't even told him that she loved him back. Kelly told him that he needed to get his five hours sleep before his race in the morning. Kelly decided that she needed to go see Trent at the track. She didn't care if he thought of her as his good luck charm or not. She got to the track and security wouldn't let her in. That was when she realized that Trent was keeping her out because he believed she was more than his good luck charm. He had meant it when he said he loved her. She went to his motor home and watched the race. The first place point leader was taken out of the race when he got caught in a collision. He and Danny were the leaders. Trent decided to take a shorter last pit stop and came out ahead of Danny. They then bumped each other and Danny lost his place for a minute. It was enough for Trent to take the lead and finish first. He won the cup! Kelly ran past the security guard and met Trent as he got out of his car. She told him she loved him and he asked her to marry him. She said 'Yes'!

This is the third Harlequin NASCAR book I've read, and I can't figure out why the authors always make the drivers total jerks. I really can't believe that every NASCAR driver is an egotistical jerk. Other than that, the story was okay. I *will* be hunting down the books about Trent's brothers to see what happens to them.
So I actually liked this one too, embarassing as that is. Whatever, you can read it in one airport-flight-layover-flight-metro trip from MN to DC, and it's cute and has likeable characters. But it is what it is, a NASCAR romance novel. Don't expect anything else.
