This book was written in the 80s, and I read it at that time. When I saw it on a discard pile, I just had to have it. The author, Roger Welsch, was a regular feature on "Sunday Morning" for many years. Always dressed in overalls, he spouted small town wisdom that just made you feel good. It was a great feature for the TV show, a folksy, articulate, funny look at rural life. I loved it. This book is even in more depth of living in a small town and having an obsession with restoring old tractors, Allis WCs to be exact.
I think for you to enjoy this book you have to have grown up on a farm and or married a farmer, or maybe a rural person from a small town. It goes into great depth about restoring tractors and all the people that help you along the way. At the same time departing wisdom.
It's not for everyone, but for me, it sure hit that nostalgic button in a good way.

Just as good 2nd time around. This reader, spent 37 yrs working on large diesels and then jumped thru the window to never touch a wrench again. Almost 29, yrs. later this book makes the reader think, hey, where's 70 yr. old Allis I could restore. Welch makes every bolt, nut and piston personal as the tractor again becomes alive.

Just to judge this book solely by its cover, Not that I'm any expert on the matter. I can even clearly tell this book seems extremely well detailed and informal. Something i will absolutely keep nearby if i ever own a barn or even farm 'equipment' in my future.
