Once and for All

Take care of her father's ranch for a few weeks? No problem. Jodie De Vanti is a successful lawyer, so how hard could it be to oversee a bunch of cows?

Turns out it's pretty hard…especially when she has to beg for help from Sam Hyatt, the vet her father almost ruined. Between her father's new prize horse getting injured and his prize bull going belly-up, not to mention the cows that are calving, she'd be done if not for Sam.

And just to make things more interesting, he's the first man who's fascinated her in a long time. If these sparks between them mean anything, that attraction goes both ways.

Hero is a veterinarian. Heroine is a lawyer who's come to her dad's Nevada ranch to look after it while he's on an extended vacation with mom in Europe. Dad's retired from a big business, and is running the ranch the same way, with no room for failure. He's managed to make enemies of all the locals, especially the local vets, having sued the hero for allowing a valuable horse to die. No one will come out to tend his animals--he has to fly a vet in from Las Vegas. Only that vet is on vacation, and a horse needs stitching, and the heroine begs, and the hero agrees to come as long as she guarantees not to sue. Their respective attitudes toward Dad give them conflict from the get-go.
The hero is also raising his teenaged nephews after the death of his brother and sister-in-law in a drunk-driving accident. This plays a role in the conflict--not just from the boys trying to set them up. They figure if Uncle gets a life, he'll be more likely to let them have one.
I really liked this book. I thought the issues were handled well, and realistically, and the story moved right along, unlike a lot of Superromances from the "old days." Slow pacing is one of my pet peeves, and this book did not have it. It's a Good Read.

Her father sued the Vet that had cared for an animal that later died. The Vet won but it cost him a lot.
Now the daughter has an emergency at the ranch. She is taking care of the ranch while he is on vacation. So far no Vet has been able to come. She now has to call Sam, the Vet her father sued. Reluctantly he agrees to see the animal because he can't let the horse suffer and he needs money.
Sam also has two 16-year-old twin brothers to deal with. Jodie the lawyer has some issue with her dad.
It's a fun read. A fun romance. With lots of twist and turns.

Jodie De Vanti is temporarily assuming oversight of her father's ranch so that he and her mother can enjoy a well-deserved vacation. But his hard-hitting, take-no-prisoners style has alienated many of the locals, including the vets whose help Jodie will need to save some of the livestock.

Sam Hyatt is one of those most severely burned by Jodie's father. But he finds himself feeling compassion for Jodie and the poor animals and takes on the work, much to everyone's surprise.

A well-rounded cast of supporting characters helps make this a great read. Sam and Jodie are three-dimensional and their tough choices make for page-turning reading.

The daughter of a rich rancher who has alienated every veterinarian in the area falls for the one vet she can persuade to make a house call. Unfortunately, she has a secret that could threaten their relationship. Really good.
