Hero is a veterinarian. Heroine is a lawyer who's come to her dad's Nevada ranch to look after it while he's on an extended vacation with mom in Europe. Dad's retired from a big business, and is running the ranch the same way, with no room for failure. He's managed to make enemies of all the locals, especially the local vets, having sued the hero for allowing a valuable horse to die. No one will come out to tend his animals--he has to fly a vet in from Las Vegas. Only that vet is on vacation, and a horse needs stitching, and the heroine begs, and the hero agrees to come as long as she guarantees not to sue. Their respective attitudes toward Dad give them conflict from the get-go.
The hero is also raising his teenaged nephews after the death of his brother and sister-in-law in a drunk-driving accident. This plays a role in the conflict--not just from the boys trying to set them up. They figure if Uncle gets a life, he'll be more likely to let them have one.
I really liked this book. I thought the issues were handled well, and realistically, and the story moved right along, unlike a lot of Superromances from the "old days." Slow pacing is one of my pet peeves, and this book did not have it. It's a Good Read.
