I have to say I am completely floored that most people have this a 3 star review. I thought this book was absolutely amazing, especially after having read so not so amazing books. For the past month and a half about, I've read Harlequin Presents books (about 2 to 3 books a night actually) and I have to say, this really blows them out of the water. It was a very good read. There was room to laugh and to cry a wee bit and also a wee bit of conflict. And while I find that the friends could have been a little bit more supportive and as they were insisting she spill the beans when they clammed all up, overall I was extremely pleased. Great work Myrna! I'm definitely looking to reading more of your books.
Ridiculous with a capital 'R'. Woman goes to Vegas with her friends for a getaway weekend. While it doesn't tell us what happens to the rest of them, they all have a story out of this one. In this case Alex has a history of helping other people, not having any backbone, and committing herself before she knows the extent of her commitment. The concierge at the hotel lobby goes into labor and Alex steps up, helps out, and fields questions of people coming up to ask a woman in labor how to get to the elevators. The super rich single guy who just doesn't do relationships who also happens to own the hotel is so impressed that this good samaritan could point to the elevator that he offers her the job of replacement concierge at a ridiculous salary for the next couple of months on the spot.
If you find that scenario a bit hard to swallow, don't bother reading the book. It doesn't get any more realistic from there. Predictable and cheesy but cute. The cuteness factor bumped it up to the second star. but barely.
Alexandra Lowell went to Las Vegas with her three best friends to help her friend Jayne overcome the grief being jilted by her fiance just before the wedding. Alex is over zealous helper and she would help everyone with a smile and without regard of her safety. This earns her a position as concierge at the hotel where she was staying when Wyatt, the owner of the hotel sees her enthusiasm. Wyatt is really a nice employer, a boss from heaven! I wish such bosses existed.
And as in max of the romance books, the heroes are self made millionaires and they all need women in their life who do not care about their riches and money, but care for them and love only them.. blah blah... So he falls in love with Alex for her sweet nature and for the light she brings in his life. Alex too falls in love with him.
The end is sweet and a bit cheesy... Their behavior in end and wedding is like hormone crazed teenagers who can't keep their hands off each other.
I'm not sure how I feel about this book. It's a good story idea, but I wasn't sure if sometimes I was having the 'conflict' rammed down my throat. It just felt in places a little repetitive.
And the ending, of course 'happy', I was a tiny bit disappointed with. It was actually a teeny tiny bit cheesy. I mean their behaviour in front of all those people (you'll see) just, well, I'm surprised someone didn't shout "Get a room!"
Alex gets hired by Wyatt to cover maternity leave at his hotel in Vegas, so they both know it's 'temporary'. He's got his past, she's got hers... I'm also shocked that someone would return from maternity leave after two months... (yes it's that temporary) but then this is America and I don't think they have the same holidays/benefits that we do in the UK. But just a tiny nit there.
There's some good stuff in this book, too. So I gave it three stars, but I wouldn't say it's one of my favourites.
