About the author

"Captain" Reid wrote many adventure novels akin to those written by Frederick Marryat and Robert Louis Stevenson. He was a great admirer of Lord Byron. These novels contain action that takes place primarily in untamed settings: the American West, Mexico, South Africa, the Himalayas, and Jamaica.

It's a collection of stories from another time, about another time. I grew up on these stories, and loved them from the beginning, and re-read them whenever I'm in a creative slump. What could be a collection of "young boys' adventure stories" is actually an all-around reminder of what adventure is for everyone.
