Within the book covers of Proverbs 31: The Virtuous Black Woman, you won’t find words that lead you to the name of a murder mystery nor sentences that plots a sizzling drama. Within the pages of Proverbs 31: The Virtuous Black Woman is a paragon of virtues exemplifying the characteristics of a virtuous woman, exclusively the black woman.

Author, Russell Blake is definitely a connoisseur of words. He articulates the array of chapters in his book like a bride prepares for her groom. He uplifts the black woman so that she may be reminded of her womanhood, redirected to the heavenly father that created her, the black woman and evaluate the purpose of a woman’s life.

The author dedicates this book to his parents; his mother, the 1st woman that was a living testimony of a virtuous black woman and his father who taught him the value of a virtuous black woman.

With the teaching of his parents and his endearing faith in God that provided him the edification of Proverbs 31, he exhort and motivate black women from the clutches of indignities and degrading practices that has demoralized the image of black women and eloquently pens Proverbs 31: The Virtuous Black Woman.

He honors the black woman with pages that read like poetry yet has no rhyme, pages of psalms yet the words are not a song. His dedication to the black woman is like water majestically flowing from the Nile River and poured into the hearts of every black woman that opens the book for its taste.

Yes, I enjoyed this book filled with prose of praises of a virtuous black woman. I also like the scriptural references that followed the themes. I thank Russel Blake for a wonderful profound book that honors the black woman in hopes that women exercise their faith on becoming or continuing their lives as virtuous black women.

I must also note that this book is definitely a great read for the black man

Beyond Virtue

Russell Blake writes to a mature audience of the traveled, educated, experienced and devout on the subject of the virtuous woman as interpreted in Psalms 31. “The Virtuous Black Woman” is presented as prose but its attributes are so lyrical it approximates poetry with underlying essay themes. Russell has a strong masculine voice tempered by the feminine provision of supplication. Almost ecclesiastical and proverbial, his message is subtle. Several of his selections required multiple readings to gleam the essence of the piece. All are imbued with wisdom tempered by knowledge and experience. His vocabulary and writing style is often terse but altruistic. There were several instances of word confusion with their/there.

I would recommend “The Virtuous Black Woman” to those needing “food for thought,” but this is not for those dieting or snacking.

Inspirational food for the soul describes “Proverbs 31:The Virtuous Black Woman Volume 1” by Author Russel Blake and published by Man of Psalms Publishing. His book places focus on Proverbs 31 in the Bible and he honors, uplifts, encourages, and empowers women. His book contains Psalms, short stories, and praises.

I read his book in one sitting and during my reading I felt the love of God and the love of an African-American man for women. The pieces have strong titles such as “Black Woman I Love You”, “Quiet Strength” and my favorite “Seasons” which takes the four seasons of the year and equates them with the season of a Woman’s life. His book reads as a love story to Women that can be used a daily devotion to begin and end your day.

Author Russel Blake wrote a book that both Women and Men could both garner and glean strength and insight. Women after reading this book will be proud to be an African-American Woman and “No weapon formed against me shall prosper.” Men will take away from this book, to always honor, uplift, and encourage all Women in their lives whether it’s their Grandmother, Daughter, Wife, Mother, and all women in general.

“Proverbs 31:The Virtuous Black Woman Volume 1” is a must read and I say Bravo Author Russel Blake for honoring women.
