I like the art, but snow day books have been done over and over and this one has weird ethics.

It's a shame they lied at the end. This would make a great storytime book.
Fun to read with bright illustrations and repetition.

The gotcha at the end is just one thing that makes this book so much fun. The cadence when you read it just shouts with joy. The illustrations are fun. This is just a perfect snow day read.

Author Patricia Lakin knows kids. She knows how they react. So does illustrator Scott Nash.

How can I tell? Very early on, this shows. You see, Goodreaders, these alligator kids start telephoning each other to spread the thrilling news of new snow.\

I absolutely adore the page where little Pam asks, "Where?"
Wait until you see the illustration where her bright great head twirls. Plus fresh toast leaps out of the toaster.

The four friends in this book are Sam, Pam, Will, and Jill. They race out of bed and start playing. Suspense builds, though. Will this turn out to be a snow day or a regular school day?

Such a FIVE STAR, playful, story about kids playing in the snow: Wonderful!

This my first time reading Patricia Larkin books illustrated by Scott Nash. And I'm loving the combo! The pictures are so fun and joyous and bright. And filled with such humor. I dare you to be in a bad mood after reading one. What a fun snowy day celebration!

**I read this with my Blanchard grandchildren, 7, 5, 3, 1

**Talking points: What are your favorite things to do on a snowy day? Do you like snowy days, or rainy days, or windy days, or sunny days better? Who are some of your favorite people to have fun with?

My baby goes absolutely bonkers for Snow Day! It’s her absolute favorite! The story is full of excitement and fun, and it really brings out the winter spirit. Saying all the kids' names can be a bit of a tongue-twister, but it just adds to the charm. Overall, a delightful wintertime read that brings so much joy!

This was not a good book at all. Very nice for beginner readers, but the message of the book... not so good. They lied and got away with it. And that's the first thing all 3 of my kids said. They lied...

Prose on the level of Dick and Jane, but more exuberant. The pictures are better and the kids do some sneaky things, so that makes it more interesting than Dick and Jane, but seriously, this is for the most beginning readers.

I expected wear, but this book smelt and it was in really bad shape. I knew it was used, but it was beyond used - went right into the garbage, not even worth sending back to get sent out to some other person.

I love the snow very much. I liked it because it had snow and telled you what you might need before you do it. And if you have work, you need to go and do that first.

I wouldn't use this one for a storytime; but, I might use it to help a beginning reader.

I loved the first five pages, and the little crocs, but that is it. It does capture the excitement of a snow day, but just didn't appeal.

The crocs want to play in the snow. Yes, that's right. Crocs. They decide to call in a "school's closed" message to the Croc'o News. Of course it must be true if it is on the news!
Delightful.

While it’s a cute book about a snow day, I didn’t need to read the same line four times because all four kids said it.

Sam, Pam, Will, and Jill are thrilled when they wake up to discover snow! They can't wait to go sledding, but what about school? Good thing they're principals who can call a snow day for all.

Used for St. John's Preschool Storytime 12/1/09. I had the three year olds and this was too old for them I think - they don't know about snow days and principals yet. Instead I think this would be great for beginning readers in 1st or 2nd grade. Lots of repetition in the text makes the harder words like "undies" and "goggles" more approachable and they'll love the discovery that what at first are assumed to be children are actually adults who want to play too.

Sam, Pam, Will, and Jill are four young crocodiles who get to go sledding on a snow day when school is cancelled. This story celebrates friendship and an unexpected break from the daily grind of responsibilities. It’s a bit repetitive and preachy as it makes a point to recommend safety helmets and safety goggles for those who want to sled, so it was not a favorite for me. It seems to be geared toward toddlers, but toddlers may not appreciate a snow day from school the way older kids would – so in my opinion, it’s a bit mismatched.

Sam, Pam, Will, and Jill wake up to snow and can't wait to get out and play. Then they realize they forgot about school, and the readers are in for a funny surprise.
I thought this book was cute and had a funny ending. I really like the rhyming and the simplicity of the story. The author is able to tell the story in just a few words per page.
This would be a great book for story time on a snowy day. It would also be great for beginning readers to read. They could work on their question words.

This is about a group of of alligators that wake up and get really excited about the snow. They all go out and play in it together, having a lot of fun. Then they all remember that it's a school day and run inside to "fix things" and that is when you find out that they are not little kids but they were actually the principals canceling school.
This was such a cute book! I love the illustrations and the story. I think little kids would really think it's funny that they end up being the adults. This would also be good for learning about rhyming works and learning to read

Snow Day is a cute story that talks about 3 alligator principals who decide to cancel school due to a snow storm. Snow Day uses a lot of dialog between the characters. I think that this book would be appropriate for a class that was learning how to use quotation marks because the quotation marks that are being used are shown in very large print that children can identify easily.

Four friends see that it is snowing outside. They put on all their gear and get ready to sled. Then they remeber that they are supposed to go to school. This is a cute and very simple book that might be good to read aloud after a snow day.

Four alligators rejoice in the freshly fallen snow and then realize that they need to get back inside so they can let the schoolchildren know that they have canceled school for the day, because principals need a day off to play in the snow, too
