This was a good introduction for a 9-12 year old age range, though not without faults. I enjoyed all the illustrations, and I definitely learned information. The introduction oddly chose to focus on the story of an impoverished child and how he struggles to survive. The sections on landscape and wildlife were pretty dry, just the facts, but the pictures made up for it. The history chapter was my favorite, and I learned a good bit of new information. The sections on economy, religion, and culture were also informative and interesting to read. The political perspective is quite pro-Museveni (the current president) and makes no mention of opposition viewpoints. Daily life focused on rural regions and lower class lifestyle and didn't show anything about city dwellers or the upper middle class. However, apart from the introduction chapter, the tone of the book is optimistic and Uganda is seen in a positive light. There is a very helpful timeline at the back, which juxtaposes Ugandan history events with well known world history events, for context. 120 pages
