Donna is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of over a hundred novels. Her most popular series is the breathtaking Dark King (aka Dragon King) series featuring dragons, immortal Highlanders, and the Fae.
In addition to her novels, Donna has written short stories, novellas, and novelettes for digital-first and print release. She has been dubbed as giving the “paranormal genre a burst of fresh air” by the San Francisco Book Review. Her work has been hailed as having “deft plotting and expert characterization” by Publisher’s Weekly and “sizzling” by RT Book Reviews.
She has been recognized with awards from both bookseller and reader contests including the National Reader’s Choice Award, Booksellers Best Award, as well as the coveted K.I.S.S. Award from RT Book Reviews.
Donna travels often for various speaking engagements, conferences, and book signings. She is also a frequent workshop presenter at national conferences such as RT Book Lovers Convention and Thrillerfest, as well as local chapters.
Born and raised in Texas, she also has ties across the border in Louisiana. Growing up with two such vibrant cultures, her Cajun side of the family taught her the “spicy” side of life while her Texas roots gave her two-steppin’ and bareback riding. She is never far from her faithful 80 pound dog, Sisko, or her three cats. She can often be found at the movies or bookstore with her children. Or buying makeup. And shoes.
Donna Grant was truly able to reveal a detailed picture of a strange and dangerous world. She did an incredible job of making this mystical world and its inhabitants come to life. However, the Druids remain elusive and mysterious, especially regarding a prophecy involving three sisters who had been parted years ago. The author begins the series with the MacNeil Laird murdering the parents and two young girls, whom he assumed were Glenna's siblings, also connected to the 300-year-old prophecy of the Druids. He killed them to prevent the prophecy from coming true.
In this installment, the readers are introduced to the third sister, Fiona, who had been raised in a neighboring clan and taught extensively about the Druid ways. She was blatantly against ever speaking to her eldest sister ever again, due to her belief that her sister deserted her when their parents were murdered. Moria returned to the house to try to help the parents and Fiona was taken by Gregor for safekeeping. Then he comes back many years later in order to return her to return her to her sisters.
There was so much mystery surround Gregor in the first book. Understanding his character was impossible because his past and his motivations were so muddled. He seemed to switch alliances, yet one was never really sure. In this installment, the reader sees a portrayal of his life from a new perspective. So does Fiona and she becomes enamored with him, yet she tries to convince herself it is only for pleasure that she wants to seek his company. Gregor becomes her hero in this installment.
Okay, I do have a gripe and I may be alone in this fact. However, when a book series or a t.v. program have a singular 'bad guy/enemy' that attacks repeatedly, it disturbs or disquiets me greatly, leaving me in an agitated state of mind. The longer it progresses, the less interested I become in the adventure. So this 'evil one or shadow that he is referred to' is annoying my peace of mind in a big way. It is a conundrum that frankly just turns me off. I do not feel any warm and fuzzy feelings about continuing this series. I normally choose topics that are inspirational and conclude with an H.E.A. Although the romantic aspect culminates without fanfare or ceremony, the darkness of the 'evil one' detracts from the satisfaction one is usually awash with from a truly awesome H.E.A.
** SPOILER ** This is not entirely a clean read, which gives me pause. This book is also not able to stand on its own, there is an H.E.A. in an alluded romantic sense.. It had a very creative premise, although the matter of the prophecy, secondary characters, and the elusive shadow kidnapping the Fae King and Queen were left dangling. Yes, I was disappointed with many facets of this book series . . . But many may just enjoy more than I did!
I will try to be fair and first recognize that the second volume of Druid’s Glen was well written, had a good flow with a variety of characters (highlanders, druids and fae) and plenty of adventure. It tells the story of Fiona and Gregor. She is the second of the three druid sisters, separated very young, as they come together to find their mates and fulfill a prophecy to save Scotland.
I couldn’t enjoy Donna Grant’s Highland Nights because I felt annoyed most of the time. Fiona drove me crazy, she doesn’t let go of the past and, afraid of being abandoned again, seals her heart both to her older sister Moira and Gregor. That lasts almost to the end. It was simply frustrating. I liked Gregor better. There is a dark secret about his past, but when the truth is revealed it seemed inadequate.
Despite my opinion and low rating of Highland Nights, I will probably try the next in the series with the story of Moira.
I really like this series. It is a story of Highlanders, Druids and Fae. Three druid sisters separated as children comes together to find their mates and fulfill a prophecy to save Scotland.
This is the second installment in the series and tells the story of Fiona and Gregor. They both have built walls around their hearts to bear the traumas of their childhood. When Fiona and Gregor first come together she immediately knows he is her mate, but is determined to keep him at a distance for fear he will abandon her as her sister did. Gregor feels for the first time with Fiona, but thinks himself unworthy of her love.
The intrigue of the story lies in the details. Ms. Grant has woven a world Highland life, Druid and Fae magic. There are battles, sword fights, kidnappings, murder, love, forgiveness, self discovery and more.
The reader would have meet Gregor in Highland Mist #1 and in this book he is asked to go retrieve Fiona Sinclair and bring her to her sisters.
Fiona is a very fiesty woman who is well aware of her powers and has been trained to use them. Her control is spectacular and when she uses her gifts throughout the book it is always dramatic.
Gregor's secrets come out in this book along with regrets, forgiveness and love. Everything becomes more of a reality as the reader goes through the pages of the book further into the storyline.
Fiona and Gregor are like oil and water together creating a very volcanic relationship. From the start the reader will notice that this couple is more alike than they can ever imagine. For this reader they are perfect for each other is all ways.
This rates 4 stars for the volcanic relationship between Fiona and Gregor.
Content as a sword for hire, Gregor MacLachlan has never relied on anyone or anything until he’s asked to bring a Druid priestess home in this enthralling paranormal romance.
Fiona Sinclair depends on one person – herself and the reader can’t help but get ensnared in the turmoil and excitement as Gregor escorts her on the journey to fulfill her destiny. The chemistry between Fiona and Gregor smolders with increasing intensity throughout the story but while the relationship may be fated, there is much emotional turmoil that needs to be healed before either will think of what they could have together. These strong, compelling characters grab reader’s attention as they capture the heart and the fast paced smooth flowing plot enthralls readers with lots of suspense, excitement, turmoil and romance.
The time of the prophecy is at hand building spine tingling tension throughout the story while excitement builds as the danger and escalates from the evil duo that is out to destroy the sisters with lots of family excitement and turbulence adding to the tension and excitement which ensures that there is never a dull moment. The suspense draws the readers in as the well written scenes and details make it easy for the reader to become caught up in the story and the character’s lives.
The magic and the fascinating world are only part of this intriguing series, with each book ensuring that a sister meets her part of the prophecy while building the suspense and excitement as each one reveals more of what the evil one has planned and just what it means to humans, fae and Druids alike. I was completely caught up in the story from the very beginning, especially since Fiona and Gregor kept me on the edge wondering if they were ever going to work things out or even survive and I can’t wait to read Moira’s book and find out what happens next.
Good story. This whole 'don't kill MacNeil until the time it says in the prophecy' thing is getting irritating.. The 'cloaked figure' is irritating the bejeezus outta me. And these girls are pretty powerful, but seem to still get caught off guard.. At least this girl, Fiona, uses her powers to kick some arse. And of course the walking on water part was pretty cool too. Gregor came across as some puney boy in the first book. But now he's some great, super sexy warrior. Glad he came around to the good side and put his past where it belongs and dealt with his guilt and grief. And go Fiona for going after what you want in the beginning. Loved to see Her seduce Him, for a change.
I love this series...I truly do but (and it's nothing major but still!) the typos in the first three books of this series are driving me nuts! Donna Grant tells a great story and her characters are wonderful but please, please hire a new proof-reader! The only reason I gave this book 3 stars is because of the typos. If a reader is not paying attention, some of these errors could really lead them astray.
Gregar is sent to retrieve Fiona and bring her back to the Druids Glen. She has abandonment issues and he's been banished from his clan and feels unworthy of a woman like Fiona. Fiona is angry and snappish as she pushes people away so she won't be hurt when they leave her. There was a lot of activity but I wanted more depth.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
What's not to love? Hunky Highlanders, Druids, action. It seems I have been reading a lot of these books lately. I haven't even taken the time to write reviews! I am about to start #5. I really liked Gregor and was happy to see him find his mate!
If you love paranormal, time travel, Scottish landscapes and history - you’ll love this series. I am rereading it for the second time. I love the way Donna Grant ties all her stories together! She is an incredible story tell and my all time favorite!
Listened to the audio book of Highland Nights by Donna Grant
It was interesting book and the renighting of the sisters who happen to be Druids. The have grown up in separate households after the death of their parents when they were young.
This story is about Fiona Sinclair who was raised as a foster child to a clan chieftain. He and his wife treated her more as their daughter than a foster child. Fiona learned about Druids, magic, and her destiny from her foster parents. However one day, Donnregor MacLachlan rides into Fiona clan to bring her to her Druids sisters in the Driud Glen and begin fully her destiny. Donnregor does not want anyone to know his pass so uses the Gregory and acknowledge that he is the laird son of MacLachlan.
Gregory has Been banished from his house and has to deal with past to lead him to leave.
Fiona knows that a Gregor is her mate. However, she must decide if she going to accept him as such, how she going to handle a relationship with her sisters, and her part in the sisters Destiny in saving world
This is the second in the Druid Glen series and is connected to the Shield and the Royal Chronicles by Mystic Trinity (formally known as Dragonfyre). This book was enjoyed via Audible Escape.
Fiona, the middle sister, is a druid that is a part of a 300-year-old prophecy. Adopted by a different clan shortly after the murder of her parents to keep her safe. As the time of the prophecy approaches, she is to be reunited with her sisters and is escorted by Gregor, a banished son of a Laird. The two must reconcile with their families in order and deal with their own personal losses before they can come together.
But... there are a lot of small mistakes - spelling and sentence formation - that should have been picked up during editing.
Every time I came across these, it made me stumble and of course, it throws you out of the story. Sometimes, I couldn't even make out what the meaning was, so I had to just ignore and gloss over it. It gets worse from about halfway through.
It's a shame because the writing style is lovely and the story is great. Strong characters. "Nice" erotic scenes. Colourful descriptions, not over done. I will read the whole series. But - I hope the author reads her reviews - this needs re-editing.
🌙 Highland Nights (Book 2) Forced Proximity | Bodyguard Romance | 356 pp | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5) This installment follows Fiona and Gregor, two wounded souls guarded by walls built from trauma and loss. Gregor’s dangerous past and Fiona’s fierce independence make their slow-burning connection more yearning and rewarding. The world-building expands beautifully with battles, kidnappings, and layered Druid and Fae magic. Tender, intense, and full of heart, this book adds depth to both the prophecy and the found-family feel of the series. 💫 "I couldn’t resist you the first time I saw you like this. I knew then I would never be able to refuse you.”
I enjoyed Fiona and Gregor's journey a bit more than I did Glenna and Connall's. Both characters have massive chips on their shoulders that have to be removed before they can really move forward. The story arc takes another interesting turn and leaves you wanting the next installment immediately. Ms. Grant has a way with words (though there are some editing issues that should be addressed if this series is released a third? time). Still loving the characters and the world building!
I thought that this second book was much better than the first one. Fiona was a deeper character than Glenna and she was determined to not be hurt again. She was haunted by her past just as much as Gregor was haunted by his and between them the HEA was looking a bit shaky. I loved that we got to learn more about the Fae and the Druids in this book and the storyline was quick and action packed. Definitely give it a read.
Donna Grant doesn't disappoint. I loved Fionz and Gregors story - each character had to work through their past issues that make them reluctant to trust and forgiveness difficult. add in a psycho Fae and Mad man who wants to rule the world and three sisters of Prophecy - the story is a page turner. Now comes the hard part do I read the next book or do I read about Dragon King or Reaper's Sky Druids 🤔
This is the 2nd book in the Druids Glen series. It follows Gregor and Fiona. We first met Gregor in the 1st book in the series. At first I didn't know what type of person Gregor was going to turn out to be. By the end of the 1st book I had fallen in Love with Gregor. He turned out to be an honorable and great guy. Now he has been tasked with finding Fiona, the lost sister. This book take us on an adventure and has a lot of passion and love. I really love this book and hope you like it to.
I really liked Gregor and Fiona. At the beginning, I loved their playful banters and how she would try to seduce him. Then as feelings developed they tried so hard to stay away from each other but their passion was so strong. I liked getting to know all the characters more and to see how the story line developed with the prophecy.
I love Donna Grant, but this was not her best. Both Gregor and Fionna are head strong characters, but Fionna was hard to listen to. She constantly led Gregor on then turned him away, along with her older sister. It was a frustrating read, but a good story. I'm excited see where this is leading. I'm happy to be starting the next book.
The story is wonderful and continues the overarching storyline of the series, Druids' Glen. However, with all the extra words, misused words, misspelled words, missing words, missing pages, and blank pages the spell was broken time and time again. Sorry, perhaps the paperback was better edited?
Enjoyed listening to Gregor and Fiona's story. We find out some important things - like who the cloaked figure is and what his identity means to the Fae. The constant vacillation of the two main characters between whether they wanted the other or not did get a bit tiring. I also thought the journey back to Druid's Glen would never end...
Love the time period of this series it definitely adds to the romance of the story. Intriguing storyline and characters. I do love the HEA with the added twist of mystery to be confined in the next book.
