I was disappointed. The book had too many long drawn out boring conversations and ponderings. It needed more things happening.

Story Brief:
Kirby ran a ski resort in Colorado with her boyfriend for ten years. After she saw him with another woman, she left him, borrowed money, bought an inn in Vermont, and rehabbed it. This is a ski resort area. It’s her first season to be open. There is no snow. She may lose the inn if she doesn’t get enough guests to pay her bills.

Brett is poker genius celebrity who made millions. He wants to leave the business. Someone has been causing property damage to friends of his in Las Vegas. So he puts most of his things into storage and takes off on a motorcycle to decide what to do with his life. He sees Kirby’s inn in Vermont and is drawn to the architecture and look of the place. He is her first guest. They start falling for each other. After Brett learns she needs guests, he offers to hold a charity poker tournament at a nearby resort which will bring in a lot of guests for the area.

Reviewer’s Opinion:
This book has too many long, drawn out conversations about goals, needs, desires, fears, past relationships, etc. There were also too many long, drawn out ponderings in the mind about these types of things. There was one seven-page-long conversation that was just about Brett trying to convince Kirby to tell him what was wrong. I kept wanting things to happen. Not enough happened. What little did happen was interesting. It could be a good short story if the author got rid of all the filler.

There was a bad guy doing property damage to Brett’s friends. By the end of the book, it wasn’t clear to me who was doing that and what happened to the bad guy. Brett suspected a certain person, but it was not wrapped up. There was no confession or evidence or prosecution or jail. That part of the story was not finished.

Data:
Story length: 307 pages. Swearing language: strong, including religious words. Sexual language: mild. Number of sex scenes: 7, most were about two pages long. Setting: current day Pennydash, Vermont. Copyright: 2010. Genre: contemporary romance.

It gets 2 * because I Did finish the book. But you know the characters are in trouble when the kiten is more interesting than the hero. Brett just did feel "real" to me. Wanting to get into Kirby's pants sure. Hours of introspective conversation - not so much. He just never felt like a real person even in the setting Ms Kauffman put he. Did like Kirby. She felt real & somebody I could be friends with. As this is my first book by Ms Kauffman I'll have to think about my next one. I do know that it won't be for a while

Even though this was published in 2010, I really enjoyed it and it didn’t feel dated. The author gave us plenty of sexual tension and love. I enjoyed the suspense, but it was fairly obvious where the story was going in regards to that. I really liked how honest both Brett and Kirby were with each other. It is a journey well worth reading. Loved the epilogue also.

Begon leuk, vanaf het midden waren de dialogen veel te lang en herhaalden ze dezelfde zinnen steeds weer. Het einde was goed en de epiloog geweldig.

I'm relatively new to Donna Kauffman... I've heard her name a few times before, but have only recently read anything by her (a couple of her newer titles), though I'm quickly becoming addicted :) In Here Comes trouble (and her other more recent titles) DK spends a lot of time inside her characters heads...There's sex,but unlike quite a few books within the genre it's not the focus of the book nor of the Hero and heroines relationship...It's important, yeah, but it's not the basis of it ...Rather it's the the relationship, itself, between the main characters and how and why they're together....

Instead of a hero fighting himself, thinking he's not worthy of the h, or has been burned before and will have sex with the h but nothing more, or a heroine ...who allows the H to walk all over her, or lets her pride get in the way of...well everything, instead of all those often seen plot devices, DK lets her characters think! And reason and figure things out inside their heads and we're privy to it all!

Oh, Oh oh! And they talk! to each other! Directly, and to the point, no constant misunderstandings, nothing blown out of proportion, or left unspoken. Maybe they don't figure out everything right off the bat (there wouldn't be a story if they did!), but seeing how they work things out without being hampered down by a bunch of outside forces (Bad guys or jealous exes, or revenge plots) is so different from the same ol', same ol' of the romance genre (which, while not all bad, can get tiring after a while) makes me twice as eager for her next release!

though a quick note, while I like her books, she's not going to be for everyone...The story isn't face paced, and it isn't an edge of your seat thrill ride...it's slow and steady wins the race, and while I personally enjoyed it, it's also something to keep in mind if you're considering reading any of her (newer) titles.

I'm not sure whether to laugh until I collapse or ask for a refund.

I did - do! - like the story. It was an enjoyable read. HOWEVER, the dialogue between the h & H is (not exaggerating) monumental. Almost epic (in proportion). It seems to take up 99% of the book. If you're after a lot of dialogue, this is your story. And the ending? Let's just say the ending isn't for everyone.

If you want to borrow it, let me know. I am not certain I'd spend the money - knowing what I do now! - but hey, that's what hindsight's for, right?

This book would not hold my interest. I love this author, this is the first of her books that I would read some and then put it down and still tried to read but just couldn't enjoy the story so I never finished. I even jumped a few chapters hoping that I would start enjoying it just gave up and finally put it down and started another book.

Really decent book about an "older" woman finding love with a "younger" man. Okay, so she is 40 and he is 30. Decent book, and never would have expected Dan to be the wacko that he was. What a freakish nightmare to have your best friend being nasty and tearing stuff up, and burning things down, etc.

It was cute but Brett and Kirby spent almost the entire time either talking to each other about thier past or thinking about thier past/future. In other words, there wasn't a lot of action - just a lot of talking.

Started reading this by mistake, wanted to know how it ended. Shouldn't have bothered, too much thinking and pondering by both characters not enough plot action. Plenty of sex scenes i f that's what you like to read.
