I skip around in this book and read what pertains to me at the moment. I highly recommend it. I loved his chapter on the wilderness, referring to Lehi and his family in the wilderness, and relating that to our own wildernesses and what we can learn - Lehi and Sariah murmured in their wilderness and then repented. Faith - The Lord will not depart from us. Elder Hales said, "There is meaning and purpose in our earthly challenges. Consider the Prophet Joseph Smith: throughout his life he faced daunting opposition - illness, accident, poverty, misunderstanding, false accusation, and even persecution. One might be tempted to ask, 'Why didn't the Lord protect his prophet from such obstacles, provide him with unlimited resources, and stop up the mouths of his accusers?' The answer is, Each of us must go through certain experiences to be more like our Savior: In the school of mortality, the tutor is often pain and tribulation, but the lessons are meant to refien and bless us and strengthen us, not to destroy us. Said the Lord to faithful Joseph: 'My son, peace be unto thy soul; thine adversity and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment..." Helps me put my trials in perspective.
I found that this book identified the finishing steps of the path needed to achieve ultimate happiness and joy. I enjoyed the way the author brings the concepts sprinkled throughout the scriptures into sharp focus. I had found many of the pieces on my own but had not put them together into a navigable path. It has helped me realize that the journey while unique to each person has commonalities that link them to a central theme expressed by prophets ancient and modern. Thanks for taking the time to write Blaine Yorgason!
This book was very interesting in places where you got new insights into the doctrine of Christ but it was also pretty deep. In places it reminded me of McConkie's Messiah series. Especially the Millennial Messiah. I especially liked when he gave examples of the points he was making. Another thing about it is that it is quite long and since it is deep you don't read a lot at one time, you have to take time to digest what you have read.
I have learned so many things from reading this book. The confidence to continue the path to my eternal salvation and the truths revealed to prophets ancient and current. Charity is the answer to almost every issue in this life and the peace of god can truly be a constant companion.
This book left me with an increased testimony of my Savior and the desire to improve my relationship with him. Some of the concepts discussed are very deep and not your usual over-the-pulpit topics. I plan to read the book again to try to solidify them in my mind.
I am absolutely amazed at the scope this book presents. I will definately reread this book to try to catch the things I could not grasp as it is full of enlightening concepts.
