Matt is a straight guy with a good job, a wonderful girlfriend and a new temptation. Sin is the mysterious lead singer of the hard rock band Chains whose allure into a very violent, edgy, and erotic life style is one Matt can not entirely refuse. Dark and driven by a cruel obsession neither man can understand or try to deny… there is no option but to indulge.

One point five stars, since I actually finished this book and because there are some good bits in it. But there are also bad bits and OMG-WTF?-BBQ bits and even sappy bits in the end. Both the main characters and the book have multiple personalities, it seems.
The first half of the book requires Olympic grade Suspension of Disbelief on several occasions. But I can suspend me some disbelief when required, so whatever. But once the kitty-killer is killed and Sin goes on his emo binge, the plot starts staggering around as gracefully as a wounded grizzly who just won't keel over and die already. Not only do we have to suffer through the massively worn out I-am-no-good-for-him-so-I-must-leave-him-for-his-own-good vehicle for separation of the main characters, but in the process we get bombarded with extraneous..... stuff. Who cares about .
Someone get this guy an Olympic level editor, because there is potential here none the less.
P.S. When I think of 'Indulgence' I think of quality chocolate, expensive single malt or a day at a spa. Not being beaten into a bloody pulp while getting fucked. But that's just me.
Some reviews are especially hard to write. For me it's the books which touch me in some way, which contain my kinks, but also leave me stunned, that present the challenge.
For this particular story I was convinced I wouldn't be rating it with more than four stars. It went on like that for the most of the book, but once I reached the ending (ending which was kind of bland for me when compared to the rest of it)I suddenly realized I more than liked it and I just couldn't go below 5.
Now to clarify. This story is raw, rough, cruel and most of the time illogical. There is cheating, beating, rapes, killings, torture, BDSM without all the conventional rules, insanity - complete as well as partial, there are some hard core stuff and the gentle side in general is mostly missing.
Sin and Matt change each other from the core. But not like you might read in other books. They start off violently and that part never weakens or goes soft. They kick, bite, rape, cheat and, well, almost everything you can think of, and it's not pretty. You might hate them, want to kill them, maybe even feel sorry for them, but one thing you will never do is think of them as normal or even ordinary.
I liked the flow of the story, the violence, the games, even the cheating. I understood the rapes, the abandonment and thought the side characters made the story alive. It's not a thrill - like some books sometimes are - all around. Like when you have that feeling where the book simply can't have enough pages and you're constantly on edge. It wasn't like that for me. It was interesting enough that I stayed awake and am writing this review at 8:20am after reading all night, but not unbelievably intense. Another thing that worked for me.
What I did find as a remark of sorts is the lack of sex from them. not that there wasn't any, there was enough actually, but I enjoy this kind of stuff and I needed more bite and fucking in it with that violent flare. Another thing was the ending which for me didn't fit the story. If there ever was a story which needed to end with rough, animalistic and injury prone sex, it was this one. Now, it wasn't overly sweet and mushy, in fact it was short, to the point and not altogether unsatisfying, but like I said, for me it didn't fit the rest of the story and after meeting these unique characters I needed something more primal and explosive for the finishing touch.
I truly enjoyed this book, and if someone knows another finished story from this author I would appreciate the recommendation. (or something similar when it comes to the story, characters or BDSM)
For others, I can't really recommend this. I am a firm believer in true love, where the characters don't have to choose conventional means to make it happen. My limits are few when it comes to what I don't want to or can't read and this particular book was exactly what I needed/wanted. There is everything in there and I easily could have read about rougher stuff. But there aren't many people ready for that so i would continue with caution.

The author does an nice job of gradually showing the changes in their relationship with each other and with the world. The originality and complexity of the characters kept my interest. They're good, bad, neither and both. The grammar, syntax and editing are pretty good. There are a few mistakes, here and there but too nothing jarring. The pacing is good, though sometimes, the days seem to be never ending and full of one event after another. It seems to me, that the story could have been broken up into smaller stories, since there are several huge events through the course of the tale, but you can easily bookmark where you leave off and return when you're ready. Still, the pacing is mostly energetic. The story is daring, dramatic, violent and sometimes very sweet.
I started reading this - and finished it at 7 a.m. the next morning. Literally could not stop reading until things got - uh - resolved. I won't do spoilers here, just to say, this book is incredibly well written and I will probably keep it on my "read every couple of years" shelf (the real one, not the Goodreads one).
I vacillated between rating this 3 stars or 5 stars. I REALLY liked the first 20 chapters. Stories with this level of depth and character development are rare on Nifty. Matt's vulnerability, his evolution, and strength were at most times--riveting. It was raw, grimy and full of extreme S&M. SCORE! :D *kinky chick dance* After chapter 21 or so I think I had my fill of Matt's naivete, friggin' stupidity, and abysmally low self-image, which I suspect Llawayllynn meant to communicate as devotion and deep submission. What was great about Indulgence for me was that I couldn't prevent myself from developing love/hate relationships with most of the characters. I just couldn't stop myself from balancing their loathsome qualities from what made them intriguing; except for Razor...just UGH! I would've been TOTALLY okay with him meeting a tragic, painful end. I agree with another reviewer who said it lacked elegance and so some scenes while hot, just weren't arousing. It's doubtful whether arousing women or elegance were goals of Jack's :P I also kind of hated that the ending was just too neatly and conveniently wrapped up. Still this is one of the BEST stories I've read on Nifty...and I've read widely *blush* It's also interesting to think about hardcore BDSM stories and compare them to more romanticized ones. This felt like a "rite of passage" of some sort. After putting up with the unrelenting "WTF" feeling of the first half, the rest of the book kind of hooked me and I ended up enjoying it. It is about three books in one, and would have been a much better experience if it had been beta'ed and edited by people vested in the result.
For those thinking of trying it, a word of caution: that this book requires complete suspension of disbelief is the understatement of the century. Throw all established concepts out the window, adopt an "anything goes, bring it on" mentality and stay the course through the first half. It's not half bad, then.
Gave a trigger warning about sex between men when a 3some was had with a child…. That’s the FUCKING trigger warning. I would have LOVED the book, but I couldn’t get over that. And no matter how much I do enjoy a book. That will always be 1star especially since there was no warning over it.
This book is totally hardcore. Extreme S&M is not my thing, so I was more horrified than turned on by the things that went on in this book. Yeah, there's a lot of messed up sex, and the two main characters are pretty twisted.
I'm pretty sure my opinion is bias, though, because I'm not into this kind of lifestyle. It might be a different experience for readers who are into this type of erotic play. I just can't understand how you can love someone who tortures and abuses you physically and emotionally. But then again I'm not a masochist or a sadist so probably a lot of the character dynamic and relationship development is lost on me. :P
Still, I can't deny that this book was very well written. I zipped through the first half of the book in one night (and it's a pretty freaking long book). The latter half was not as good, and a lot of it I felt was unnecessary, so I just kinda skimmed through it.
The main characters spent much of the latter half of the book apart and in relationships (if you can call it that) with other people. And Sin went through this weird (completely random) phase and acted completely out of character for the majority of the latter half. We're talking about a guy who kicks the shit out of his lover daily, and humiliates people for fun, and does a bunch of other really messed up stuff. So I didn't really buy the whole guilt trip or the reason why he turned all emo and self-hating for a while there. It kinda dragged a bit by this point and I got really bored.
Anyway...interesting read...try it if you're into the S&M thing, you'll definitely enjoy it more than I did.
The characters were very well written in this and they grew as the story went on. I really liked Matt's character. Sin started off rather vicious at the start, but the more the story went on the more you learnt about him and understood why he was the way he was. I wanted to scream at Sin to wake-up to himself when he left Matt! I wanted to kick Matt's dad in the butt after he beat his son because he was gay. I am so glad that everything worked out in the end, that twist with Razor, finding out who he was outside of club scene was surprising. I like how the plot was thought-out and it flowed, though I think this could have been split-up into two books to make it easier to read and digest, but other than that it was a great read.

I read this story when it was originally published to nighty.org some years ago. It was the first time I ever wrote to an author with praise.. I'm afraid I gushed like a fangirl. When Jack completed the story more than a year later, I was quite pleased.
The book sometimes requires a certain amount of suspension of disbelief and sometimes the main characters do things that are at odds with their overall characterization. The book is primarily character driven. One of the weaknesses is that there is an overall plot, and sometimes ridiculous things happen to move the plot along. However, overall this is an intense, interesting, arresting story.
If you are not bothered by, or if you are turned on by, dubious consent and S&M, this is a must read.
Seeing as how I haven't worked up the urge to visit the website and finish this book in months I'm going to leave it a DNF for now. If it's released as a finished ebook I may revisit it but reading it online is a real PIA for me.
Honestly, when I started this I was wholly prepared to give it a 1 star review. The start was just...well, terrible. I didn't like the main characters at all, if you didn't know it was leading to bdsm it just seems like sexual assualt and abuse, and everything seemed messy and thrown in. About a fourth of the way in the story, though, it actually became good and somewhat intriguing, interesting enough where I wasn't QUITE ready to put the book away and declare it a disaster. A third of the way through, however, I was completely hooked on the characters, the plot, and the romance. Despite them both being despicable, short-tempered and dark, somehow two wrongs made a very twisted right. I read it in one sitting, completely ignoring sleep and staying up for over 24 hours just to finish it. The start is very very rough, and honestly I wish the author would rewrite the beginning so I could give it a 5 stars, but again, the rest was so interesting and suspenseful I couldnt take a moment to pause. Not the best novel, but a very engrossing one.
This was gay. Very gay. I hate whoever wrote this, and I hate whoever enjoyed reading this. This book deserves to be sent to the Seventh Layer of Dante's Inferno.
Indulgence is a really good read. It's violent, emotional yet exceedingly masculine. A wild rollar coaster ride for the first 80 percent of the book, but it also left me with a rather flat feeling at the end. There are spoilers and complaints ahead so be warned.
I like Llawayllynn's voice, his writing style is very relatable. However there were a wee few things that stabbed me in the eye, such as lack of punctuation in the dialogue, mistakes like 'he needed to breath', instead of 'breathe', and so on.
The last 20 or so percent of the book I found severely lacking in development. It felt stilted and cliched as if the author just wanted to get the story over and done with, kidnapping, wedding etc. I've read some of the other reviews and found that a great many didn't like Sin leaving Matt halfway through - I didn't either. But I think it was true to character and necessary for him to feel the lack of Matt, to truely commit in the end.
Now, my real problem is the fact that everybody in the book seemed to blame Sin for EVERYTHING. The first meeting with Nathan for instance. Granted, Sin is no saint but he sure as hell doesn't need to feel quite as guilty by his behavior when one remebers Nathans biggoted, religious horror at having a gay brother! I'm sorry but I don't think Sin is the only brother who needs to do some groveling.
I'll admit that I have a f-ing big pet peeve with people be they real or fictional who either hides behind their scipture in order to justify their own bad behavior or to judge other people for their skin color, sexuality, religion etc. or their lack thereof for that matter. Thou shalt not judge - remember that assholes! Sorry. Anyway, I think that Sin is to hard on himself and so is everyone else, except Matt, I love Matt.
While we're on topic I think that Llawayllynn wastly overdid it with the cowardice of Sin towards the end, it didn't ring true.
Still I will revisit Matt and Sin, I really like them, they are original, flaws and all.
Addicting but extremely violent and pasional - not for the faint of heart. It's the type of story where the main characters bond over commiting a murder together and sending each other to the hospital. I liked it, though :D Couldn't stop reading it, actually. The guys are no wimps, they can take a beating and give back, too, even if afterwards they turn out to be submissive in bed. Some are total bad asses, but they have a soft spot for their pets. On the other hand one of the main characters that is usually "the good guy" (more like the kinder, more reasonable one) doesn't mind picking up an underaged homeless boy and doing nasty things to him, while the "bad guy" thinks this is totally unacceptable. That's what I like about the story - the characters were complex, their personality traits were defined, but not treated as rules of behaviour (anybody can act uncharacteristical or have an odd judgment call in a certain moment). Warnings: rape, violence, death, underage sex, bdsm, racism + it is very long :D Happy ending (quite cheesy compared to the tone of the story, in fact).
Reassessment 2/8/14 **3.5** I had to go back and knock 1.5 stars off this one. At the time, it was like nothing I have ever read before and I think that added to my high rating. I still enjoyed it just as much and will probably revisit it at some point, but in comparison to other books I have given 5 stars to recently, I just couldn't keep this one at a 5.
I honestly did not know what to think when I started this story. When it came time to rate it I teetered somewhere between 3 and 5 stars, in the end I had to go with 5 stars because, no matter how hard some of the content was to get through, I was hooked from the very first chapter. This story felt more like 2 books in one, the first half very exciting, exhilarating, and disturbing. I felt the second half was drawn out a bit and that the characters reacted in unfamiliar ways. I understand that characters develop and evolve through stories, but it just seemed like a bit of a stretch for me. None of this however could take away my captivation, intrigue and fondness for the main characters.
I feel that I didn't connect with the characters at all. The author in my opinion made the characters soo wishy washy. He created them a certain way and then all the sudden threw in something way out I character. I know that's how people are in real life(how we are balls of random emotions)but the way the author did it, for me, seemed very inconsistent. When they cried I wanted so much to feel it but I just didn't, because the author made it so hard for me to love the characters or even connect. But other that that I loved Esty , Big daddy , Froggie , Drift and I loved the little part close to the end where they see Razor out with his kid. thats what kept me from a lower rating. I'd love to read a book about Razor and Froggie.
Could not stop reading!!! I was captivated from the very start. This story has it all - love, sex, murder, mystery and violence. This book has very strong BDSM themes.
I wish I had this book in paperback so I could pick it up and read it again and again. This is my second reading of Indulgence in 3 month time and if I am to be honest I know it will not be my last. I loved everything about this novel and keep hoping that there will be more from this author and soon to clench my thirst for more of Sin and Matt's crazy, tortuous but totally addictive relationship.
Ok, so I don't think I'm going to be finishing this book. Why? Because its over 500 pages long and I'm really just not that into it. I've read some odd books before but the whole 'beat me up and 'do' me' is just a little odd to me, and I really don't think I can read another 500 or so pages of it. I can't see where the story line is going, it's just a bit all over the place. It could be a really brilliant book if I carried on, but it just isnt for me.
Long with lots of characters and intersecting plot lines but seriously amazing. I thought it started off weird. However the characters seemed to settle into themselves. I loved almost everything about it. I need to get my hands on more of his work. It wrapped up nicely. Kind of wish there was more :) I fell hard for those characters. Sexy, funny, dark, wild. What more could you ask for? And although I don't see this getting published, I think it should be.
Just awesomely depraved! I truly enjoyed this story though it was at times rather scandalous. Please suspend your disblief and moral codes for this one! It felt like a much larger book, and even Sin grew on me! They were all so insane that they were perfect for each other.
My only complaint is that the ending felt a little rushed (since the rest of the book is pretty long).
I had fun reading it, lots of different sub plots, never a dull moment.
Im not sure what my thoughts are for this one. I was kept entertained so i guess the author did it's job. This book may not be for everyone in the regards of the MC's sexual practices and an uber amount of suspension of disbelief you'll have to acquire as a reader because this just had craziness happening.
This tool me completely by surprise. I wasn't expecting much from this free read and was thrilled it was so good! I really liked the detailing of the BDSM community within the "Collar Club", such attention to detail made me wish there was something like that near me! I found the ending a little rushed, but fell a little in love with the two main characters as flawed as they were.
I know why people rated it low... I am certainly not a friend of violence, but still... the story captivated me. I just had to know how it all progressed. For me, it had great entertainment value, and I will read it again.
Really long (free) book. This is a draft, and the author admits not edited, which usually will cause me to abandon a book. But with that fair warning, I figured I'd check out.
Indulgence is like a train wreck - I can't look away.
I would have given 5 stars but there was some stuff that could have been left out. I was invested in Matt and Sin's relationship but I didn't get why Froggy and Razor had to have so much time.
