Midsummer's Night #2

Midsummer Curse

Rate this book
Brayton is a jack of all trades. He travels from one end of the country to the other, fixing problems of all shapes and sizes for the many supernaturals who call him for help. When a friend calls in a favor, he travels to the town of Midsummer's night.

It should be an easy find out who cursed a gremlin and why, break the curse, over and done. But Midsummer's Night is like no town he's ever seen, and the gremlin he's come to help is definitely not what he expected...

3 1/2 Stars - Adoreable cute - a true fairytale shortie

Book #2

Midsummer's Curse is my second audiobook (2:50 hrs) in the paranormal (Midsummer) novella series in three parts with new lovebirds in each bookpart. ~ Narrated by Paul Morey (always fun and inspiring to hear).

Oh boy, cute, funny and wonderful sweet!!
This audiobook really made me smile and feel that cozy feeling you get when reading or listening to amusing sweet stories. I'm by now quite fond of these Midsummer's novellas by Megan Derr. The narrator does it so very-very good and I'm not sure I should be as pleased just reading these. ~ A extra shining star for another great audiobook edition.

***********************************************************

This part tells the love (meet your mate) story about the 'lone' wolf-shifter', Brayton and a machinery loving 'gremlin', Ferdy. It wasn't love at first sight but after a day or so...

# Brayton wanted to be big, bad, scary wolf but ended up as an lovesick furry wolf. - Sexy beast.
# Ferdy was a simply adorable quite sad but very nice cutie gremlin. - Blushing sweet.

Their bantering and bickering, and Brayton's teasing with some sweet endearments, did this story to a winner to listening to. There where also a mystery resolved with 'help' from a goblin and our paranormal friends from book #1 - Midsummer Moon (3.3 stars).

This little Midsummer Night town seems to be that kind of picturesque fairytale place I anyway would love to visit.

One more to do - #3 - Misummer Law. Yay!!

I LIKE - because it is just irresistible cute

Hmmm ... on one hand, I still love the town of Midsummer's Night and their supernatural creatures. This story has gremlin(!) and goblin(!) in it -- totally entertaining. I love Ferdy; the itty-bitty, half-pint gremlin, who is cursed from his ability -- that any machines he touch, immediately falls apart. He's just adorable.

On the other hand, Brayton, the jack-of-all-trade lone wolf who comes to Midsummer's Night to help Ferdy, doesn't stand out. For me, he's just like any other possessive (he's mine attitude!!) domineering Alpha towards Ferdy -- although his grumpiness (when he hasn't realized that Ferdy is his mate) is kinda cute (ha! Brayton will knock me in the head for using that word). Lowell (from Midsummer's Moon) offers a different kind of Alpha. But Brayton's kind is dime a dozen in other werewolf stories *shrugs*.

Plus the way Brayton keeps calling Ferdy "baby" ... aaaargh, one of my pet peeves. It's like listening to a chalk screeching a blackboard, I get itchy all over. I drop the rating point by point every single time that word appears on my Kindle.

I think I’m spoiled with Megan Derr’s later works. This js republished but originally from 2010; this series seems to be the earliest of her stuff I’ve read.
A fun setting and premise, but characters lack depth given the page length, annoying werewolf lead, lack of feeling of actual romantic connection. Check it out if you can read for free (my library had the ebook) but I wouldn’t spend money on this one like I would for her later works, which are consistently 4 stars or more for me.

Gremlins, goblins, shifters. Oh My!!

I'm starting to fall in love with Megan Derr. No, not in an I'm hiding in your bushes while you lotion your skin kind of way. I just want more of what's in that beautiful brain of hers. With the town of Midsummer, she's created a world that is adorable and very different from any paranormal I've read thus far.

In the town of Midsummer you can find humans, witches, gremlins, goblins, vampires, shifters, and any other kind of paranormal you can think of. They all live together peacefully. Midsummer is also a nocturnal town where pie is available at three in the morning. Midsummer Curse is about Ferdy, a little machinery obsessed gremlin, who's been cursed and Brayton the true lone wolf shifter who comes to help Ferdy.

Now, gremlins love machinery. When I say love I mean like cats love catnip. Like Pooh loves honey. Like I love bacon. That means Ferdy's curse is devastating because the curse is that whenever he touches machinery it falls apart. I don't know if other authors have assigned characteristics like gremlins loving bolts and cogs to the paranormals in their stories. This is the first time I encountered it and I thought it was clever and highly entertaining.

Now, Brayton doesn't want to like Ferdy. I mean, Brayton's a true lone wolf. True lones are all about being cool in their alone-ity. Too bad, Brayton, because Ferdy's a twitchy, cute, hesitant, irresistible gremlin. Brayton was screwed right from the beginning. Screwed. I loved it. oh, and the way Brayton calls Ferdy itty-bitty or baby should have been annoying but it wasn't. It wasn't annoying because Ferdy wasn't cool with it at first. Even when Ferdy became okay with being called baby or itty-bitty, he didn't turn into a simpering fool.

Also, I was so thankful that even though Brayton was a wolf he was average height. Even though Ferdy was a lot smaller than Brayton, Ferdy was also strong in a wiry way. Thank you, Megan Derr, for not having Ferdy be a wishy-washy, crying, giggling, tiny thing that Brayton carried around everywhere. I appreciated that.

There was a mystery as well that involved Ferdy's ex-boyfriend who's a goblin; Kerry. Kerry was an ass and for a while I was thinking that he was too much of an ass. There was nothing that made him more than a caricature. The end of the book changed all of that though. I'm not going to explain what happens at the end because that would ruin everything.

This was a great story that made me chuckle and talk to myself while I read it. As Britney Spears said when she tried to make that come-back music video: Gimme, gimme more. Gimme more. Gimme, gimme more.

It's no secret I love Megan Derr's books and this one is no different.

I loved Ferdy from the start and the curse that made him break everything with metal in it. The way he was so sad he couldn't touch the things he loved made me feel bad for him and made me love him even more.

With Ferdy's curse and Brayton's desire to make Ferdy happy by fixing it, made for a very enjoyable story for me.

It's cute and sweet and I recommend it to everyone :D

Good Golly Miss Molly I had fun reading this one. I love this town and I love these characters. I wanted this to be longer just because I wanted to get to know more about everything and everyone. A werewolf comes to town to help a Gremlin. What more is there to say? Megan Derr was even able to make me not hate the term "Baby." It worked and I want more! Everyone should have their story told. I love feeling this way when I'm done reading something.

A cute story. Very entertaining I would have given five stars but I hated how condescending the MC was to his “itty-bitty Germlin” and how he always flicked his nose if he started talking or asked a question.

Short story continuing the Midsummer town series. A friendly lone wolf with a habit of nicknames and a cursed sweet gremlin. I liked it but not the constant nicknames.

This is a really cute addition to the Midsummer series. After finishing the book, I'm only left with a few niggles. I wish the author had taken the time to flesh out the supernatural creatures a little bit more. We all obviously know what a vampire, or a werewolf when shifted, will look like. However, other than the fact that Ferdy is mechanically inclined, we aren't told about any other characteristics, physically or magically, that make him a gremlin. Does he have pointy ears as a human? Or does he shift, like werewolves do, into something like this?...

Well, I have no idea because we aren't told anything about it. Also, the same problem arises with Kerry, and even Merry in the last story. Other than the fact that they can do magic and can be considered 'wily,' what makes them hobgoblins instead of witches (which can also obviously do magic)?

None of these questions really detracted from my overall enjoyment of the story - I still thought it was a cute read - but I wanted a little more information about all of the creatures that make Midsummer unique.

Aw, this was just as lovely as the first volume – possibly even more.
Not only was it fun to revisit the previous characters and meet some new ones, but none of it felt forced. So very sweet and lovely.

Brayton really grew on me. It seems strange to be so enchanted with a guy who grumps and likes to harass others, but oh my god it works so well. I think I’m halfway in love with him myself by now.

The editing certainly could have been better but as it wasn’t really distracting, I can’t bring myself to care.

I mean, look at the narrative itself. Brayton sounded nothing like Lowell. That’s the beauty of a well-written deep viewpoint. I wish some of those first-person-perspective writers would do it even a fraction as well.

It’s such a joy to be reading something as lovable and solid as this. Definitely a series to turn to when life seems bleak. <3

Brayton is a lone wolf that is asked to come to Midsummer to help a cursed gremlin. Gremlins are known for their ability to fix any and all things mechanical, but Ferdinand or Ferdy as his friends call him, was recently cursed to break everything mechanical he touches. For a Gremlin, not being able to fix something is devastating. Brayton decides to help Ferdy and solve the mystery of the curse.

I thought this story was even more interesting than the first book because of the mystery involved in solving the curse. The plot in this book was a little more substantial than the last book and was almost 5 stars. I held back on a star mostly because of the length but it's my favorite story in this series.

I'm really liking this series, shame its so short.

Brayton and Ferdy are delightful. Their chemistry is as strong as Ferdy's scent to Brayton lol. Watching them together was pure joy for me.

The mystery was involved but not quite settled so I hope I get the final details in the next book.

ETA Still love Ferdy

Midsummer shapes up to be a paranormal St. Nacho's. XD

I liked the possessive, growly lone werewolf and sweet, absentminded gremlin. Very cute and entertaining short read.

As a lone wolf (without a wolfpack), Brayton travels across the country fixing issues he sees. He receives a phone call from his friend Carl who asks him to travel to Midsummer, to help a gremlin who has been mysteriously cursed. So he meets Ferdi at the side of the road, and gets the details of that curse. It came on suddenly and now Ferdi the gremlin can't touch anything mechanical without it falling apart... a real curse because gremlins live to repair everything, not destroy them. Brayton is interested in the case. He gets to work almost immediately, and has a series of adventures, including meeting the local wolfpack, getting a faceful of wolfsbane, and Ferdi's obnoxiously toxic ex boyfriend. He also finds surprises, including a possible long-lost cousin, a dead body, and very possessive feeling for the cute gremlin.

This was okay, felt the switch from being annoyed by Ferdi to being fated mates was really abrupt. Would have liked a little more development of that.

Three stars.

Hey, I liked this one more than I thought I would. Also, Paul Morey did a good job with the audio. (Usually I feel like his narration is just "meh" but not on this one.)

I also appreciated the inclusion of Gremlins and Goblins to the usual cast of paranormal characters (weres, vamps, etc.). That's very original in the stories I've read recently.

Also, you don't have to read or listen to the first one but I think it adds to the experience.

The second book in the series, this book a gremlin MC and a werewolf MC. The gremlins from the author's imaginations are some characters that I love and Ferdy is no different. Brayton was the usual lone werewolf, but has interesting job. We see other characters of the town and the author does do fantastic world building.

Enjoyable paranormal MM romance mating and mystery novel. Set in the same town with some of the same characters from the last book. A proudly "lone" wolf meets his mate, and it's the last guy he'd expect. Someone has cursed a gremlin, and they turn up a dead body in the investigation.
Typos: the usual sloppy and careless ones.

More of Megan Derr's fun and interesting magical realm. So far, she has never disappointed me with one of her stories—and that is saying a lot. If you're stressed or bored with our contemporary technology-laden world, I highly recommend a detour to Megan's.

Brayton is a natural born shifter, a lone wolf and a jack of all trades. He winds up in the mostly supernatural inhabited town of Midsummer at a friend’s request to help a cursed gremlin find out who and why he was cursed, and hopefully, break it. The last thing Brayton expected was to fall for the sexy little shy gremlin that he lovingly nick names ‘Itty Bitty’ five minutes after they meet.

Ferdie is a gremlin, mechanically inclined by nature, but someone has cursed the poor guy so that every time he tries to tinker, everything he touches falls apart. This, in and of itself, is pure torture for a gremlin. It doesn’t help that his ex-boyfriend is a tool that is trying his damndest to get Ferdie to forgive him and take him back. And then he finds himself insanely attracted and drawn to the shifter that was sent to break his curse.

This was just a fast, fun read. Megan Derr and Paul Morey have become somewhat of an unstoppable team in the MM romance audio book department. She writes these intricate stories, usually shifter and/or magic oriented, and Morey tells those stories with flawless narration. His voice is like honey dripping off the vine, it’s mesmerizing, sexy and fluent. While I enjoyed this audio, I did have one issue with the storyline. At least a dozen times, if not more, in less than three hours; Brayton talked about wanting to bang his itty bitty. I don’t think the man went more than fifteen minutes without talking or thinking about it. But they never do. There is one two minute scene at the very end where a couple heated blow jobs are exchanged, but that’s it. I felt cheated in that aspect. But aside from that, it was an awesome story and I can’t wait to hear more from the town of Midsummer.

REVIEWED FOR PRISM BOOK ALLIANCE

We are back in the town of Midsummer, a small town seemingly full of paranormals and somebody has cursed a gremlin.

Ferdy is a sweet little guy who is at his wits end. He is a gremlin and gremlins were put on earth to tinker and fix things. He is horrified when out of the blue everything he touches breaks and falls apart. Everything that brings him joy in life has gone. He has been cursed but has no idea who would do such a thing or why.

Brayton is a big bad lone wolf who never stays long in one place. He is also the man to call if you need help lifting a curse which is how he finds himself in the strange little town of Midsummer helping a gremlin unlike any he has met before and who smells good. He has a bit of an inner monologue running through his head and he can’t for the life of him understand why he feels so protective to the other man, he just figures he needs to get laid.

As the mystery unravels and we learn more about Ferdy’s ex we get nearly all the answers but not quite. Our big bad wolf is left contemplating giving up his lone wolf status and wandering lifestyle for an itty bitty gremlin who seems to be everything he wasn’t looking for.

I love these stories. The characters are likable, indepth, and intresting. The world that you find yourself in is intresting as well. I truely enjoy the emotion put into the book. The emotional play between characters. However what keeps the books from reaching five star statues for me is the lack of sex. No i'm not a book smut slut. Sex in books aren't just about smut, it's also about the passion between the characters for us to see. It's that natural progression in a relationship that we get to be there for. For me (and I admit there may be those that don't agree) without it feels as though I'm missing a concret piece of the relationship. Though this book was much better than the last about that, with all the steamy kisses and no doubt that they actually will do it. I just wish I'd been there for it.
