What I Believe

Rate this book
What I Believe is a touching account of some of our most cherished beliefs about life, love, hope and friendship. It appeals both to adults and children and provides an opportunity for them to share these important beliefs. How do we share our beliefs with our children? In today's world we are not always given a moment to sit down and talk about the things we believe in most - things like laughter, love, hope and friendship. Author, Jennifer Murphy-Morrical, and artist, Sue Shanahan, have created an opportunity for parents and children to share their beliefs in their book What I Believe. As an inspiring testimonial, What I Believe takes the reader on a journey through our most basic and simple beliefs about life. From believing that 'life can give the best you can imagine' to 'if you need a nap then you should take one', the writing describes experiences that people of any age can relate to. The conclusion of the book offers a strong message about personal values. Readers will be enchanted by Shanahan's beautiful and endearing illustrations, which further serve to illuminate the books heart-warming sentiments. In addition, the page includes a special feature where parents or children can personalize the book by writing down their own beliefs to share.

This was recommended to me by a patron and I'm so glad that she did! The book has such beautiful messages to the reader. A wonderful way to let someone know that you believe in so many wonderful things including them.

I waffled between a 2 and a 3 on this one, because a lot of the book came across as syrupy to me. I can see there's a place for it, though, so I rounded up to 3 stars. I might see this book differently and like it even more if I were a parent.

While cute, this book didn't flow gracefully from one thought to the next. One page was the belief in guardian angels while two pages later you are encouraged to take a nap if you need one. It was too disjointed for me.
