Time That Binds

This decade has held me with its iron claw
and crushed all I thought I knew.
Time has taken me beyond realms I can reach,
hollowed me out and shut me up tight
without my interpreter, the wind.

With predictable movements I come and go
striving to live, to love as I did so easily then,
before the shining burning moment of you.
But it’s as if I am trapped inside the belly
of a giant machine and there is no room
for hope and there are no suns.

High on the wind, soft-footed you move,
sweeping down every now and then with a whispering roar.

Your presence blows away any doubt that I belong
to your tribe of spiritual explorers planted
in rich soil of difficult experience,
still willing to believe
I can soar.
