Jennifer's dream vacation in sunny Portugal has suddenly turned into an unending nightmare! The two brothers she encounters are bound by the same strange family a fascination with fire. Weird, wacky, OTT gothic perfection. Books like this are why I collect the genre.

It's no secret that I love Banis pulps, but this is one of his best. It's just that fabulous. 💕 Pick up this gem & savor the goffick WTFery -- whackadoodle villain, cougars, cheating spouses, murder, drugged food, villas in Portugal, broken hearts, traitorous bodies, family secrets, accented men, & pyromania. Yup! Pyromania. (Also, the heroine knees a guy in the nuts, throws books at his head, & navigates an inch-wide ledge on her sprained ankle to escape his clutches. That's determination, yo. :D) All this fun is wrapped in the usual lovely imagery & sideways creepitude of Banis prose -- a very specific flavor that's unmistakable, imo.

5 stars, & I'll keep this one forever. 😗

NB: Please take a moment to admire that vintage cover. Classic.

I didn't like the h, I didn't like the brothers who both want her (and who both claim the other is a murderer), I didn't like her aunt who was dumb enough to fall for one of the brothers, and more to the point, I DIDN'T LIKE THIS BOOK!
