Monkey Punch's immortal creations are among the most beloved characters of all time, from master thief Lupin III to his trusted partners-in-crime Fujiko Mine, Goemon, and Jigen, and even his persistent adversaries like Inspector Zenigata. Seven Seas is proud to present the follow-up to Lupin Greatest Heists with this second "best of" release. Thick as Thieves is another curated collection featuring thirteen more of Monkey Punch's best stories and chapters of Lupin III from throughout the classic manga's history, featuring all-new translations in a beautiful oversized hardcover. The iconic Lupin and his band of thieves will steal your heart again and again!
same as greatest heists it's just... monkey punch writing... i think jigen rips his clothes off in this one though so it's okay 🩷 just ignore everything else
5/5 stars. Lupin III never fails to make me laugh, and the manga is no exception. While Monkey Punch’s sketchy and lucid art style is polarizing, I absolutely adore it, as it perfectly mimics the zany and animated nature of the characters and their antics. The humor in this collection was also notable, as I laughed audibly to a few stills and cheeky frames. The manga series is the perfect blend of raunch, action, humor, and pure arbitration. I can’t help but fall in love.
I like Lupin the 3rd so when I saw this collection on Book Outlet, I figured I would enjoy it and I did like it but I do feel like it read like a collection thrown together rather than a cohesively curated collection. Still it has the artwork that I like and while it is not something I'd recommend for everyone because it does seems that the mileage varies based on familiarity with the series. I don't feel like a newbie would enjoy this; I'm familiar and I had trouble connecting because the collection is a bit haphazard so I couldn't get into the rhythm of it. I can't imagine how it would be for a newbie to the series.
I never quite liked Monkey Punch's art, but the humor of Lupin is all here in the original works. I visually like the Anime rendition better, it has more of a "finished" quality that the manga does not yet have.
Lupin stories are so freaking fun, and these are all aces. I was worried they would be far different from the anime episodes/films I’ve seen but they have the exact same vibe that I love. Def gonna pick up more of them.
