Brian Reindel graduated with a journalism degree from Oakland University in 1999, but he changed career paths after a brief stint as a copywriter with a local ad agency. The dot-com boom afforded him the opportunity to explore his new found love of programming and software development. He is employed as a software architect and continues to enjoy the challenges the field offers.

After more than twenty years, his passion for writing resurfaced in the form of a creative newsletter and then a fiction Substack. He belongs to a like-minded community of fiction writers, publishes weekly fantasy and science fiction short stories online and submits for publication to speculative fiction outlets.

Brian lives with his wife of 21 years and two children in Michigan.

So many great short stories in this collection. Brian’s ability to craft unique worlds and believable characters in such few words is remarkable. There’s an underlying theme of hope, discovery, and belief in these pages, and I found that refreshing. So glad I picked up this book!

The Stars Will Fall is a collection of speculative fiction short stories by Brian Reindel. One eye-catching element of this book is the number of stories included, a whopping thirty-four. Not only do you have the staples of fantasy, science fiction, and horror, you also have sub-genres of fable, apocalyptic, cosmic horror, and others all contained in one book.
I preferred the science fiction entries. “The Backrooms,” “A Rocket Ride to Nowhere,” and “It’s Better Left Unsaid” all deserve mention. The best two sci-fi for me were “One Billion Years in a Day” and “The Greatest Unknown.”
Among the others, “Fair Weather Friend,” and “The Inheritance” stand out. “Address Unknown” is my favorite offering in the book. The story pays off its clever idea in the best way possible.
From sinking islands to people trying to avoid an alien incursion in northern Michigan to a place where overdue library books are a crime, The Stars Will Fall covers it all.
