Emerald Lakes #4

The Magic of Destiny

Rate this book
Destiny.

I’ve been hearing that word a lot lately and my opinion on the whole thing hasn’t mattered one bit. No, the stars have their plans and I’ve been consulted about it a whopping zero times.

Finally. I finally had all of my mates together. Yeah, that lasted an impressive two seconds and now one of them is gone. Does he want to be found? Or did he run?

On top of that, I have two siblings who have no idea I exist. My traitorous mother is on the run, Asrael is making moves, King Thane is making his presence known, and I’m seeing things again. Things that I shouldn’t… terrifying things.

Tensions are building toward an epic explosion. I can feel it in my bones.

Fate has its own ideas and I can only hope defeating our enemies is on the agenda. Failure means one thing in this battle.

Death.

I don't even know how I'm writing this review...
First off that CLIFFHANGER at the end left me in shock. The anticipation for the next book is strong.

Bette in this book was hilarious; First the Frozen reference
"Yoohoo! Big breakfast blowout happening in the kitchen!"
That was too cute. To the way she admired the guys calling them 'womb brooms'. I must say I did not see that Maven plotline coming.

WE FINALLY MET HUNTER!!! I was so happy for Cam and the guys. It was good to see Cam mellow out in this book. I'm excited to meet Fern in the next book, it sounds like she is going to be quite the trouble maker.

When Fischer and Saige stayed back for Sloane, that scene was just heartbreaking. Sloane in the cave, coming back to reality and reading about what he witnessed, made me want to curse Asrael all over again.
Asrael and Laurie need to go. Saige has been through so much in this series and I just want her happy, after the final chapter I'm anxiously waiting to see how everything plays out. My heart dropped when the drawing that Annie had made was happening in the final chapter. I'm praying that it doesn't.

All in all, Britt Andrews is a genius for this series and Emerald Lakes #5 couldn't come sooner.

Mathematics. It all boils down to mathematics. ✋

Okay, let me break it down:

⚫So this book had seven main characters including Saige and her Six mates. And they have their own God-given (or is it Parent-given?) names - So 7 names.

⚫Plus, Saige has her own nickname for each guy and the guys' all have their own nicknames for Saige - So that makes 12 more names.

⚫ALSO, The guys have their own nicknames for each other. - Let's approximate that to 10 more names.

So in total, there are 29 names.....which do not include the fuckton of side characters in this book. 👀😫

I couldn't keep up even though it took me twice my normal reading time to finish this book. God, my head hearts. I am out.

I liked the book and enjoyed the read. I prefer story driven plots and this one turned into a sex feast. So much sex, that I skipped the sex scenes. But I need to read the conclusion of this book!

I was looking forward to this book to see where it led to from book 3, but I'm very disappointed now. This is my opinion, & others may really like this, but I just didn't. While this plot proved to be an unstable wild ride, I felt too much attention was focused on their sex lives instead of the crazy fixing to rain down on them. They weren't focusing on anything towards the meeting with the dragon, or trying to come up with other plans than go to the one location too late to be able to get answers. This pulled me out of the story several times, cause had they planned better or be less focused on the sex -all things considered, they could have accomplished so much more. I wanted to smack them all several times for stuff. I felt like this plot was more forced than the previous 3 books. If this hadn't been the 4th book but an earlier book in the series, I probably would have quit the series. With the wild cliff-hanger ending leaving an incredibly bad taste in my mouth, I'm not sure if I will continue with the series at this point.

The Magic of Destiny is the fourth installment within the Emerald Lakes series. Just like the previous three books, this ends on a cliffhanger that I wasn't exactly prepared for. Then again, I don't think I'm ever truly prepared for a cliffhanger??

It's also fair to assume that I completely devoured this book because the pages just seemed to fly by. Saige and the guys are highly entertaining. Whether they are bantering or being romantic, I just love them all. Their personalities just mix well together, and I can't wait for what's going to come next for them. Hopefully lots and lots of babies.

Also, can I just say that I freaked out about Hunter? K thanks bye!

By the moons, I am not ok! That cliffhanger, seriously 🤬!!! Gods, I hate Laurie and Asrael with such a fiery passion!

Starting from the beginning, this book picked up right from where The Magic of Revenge ended. I was completely captivated from the first sentence until the last.

DO NOT read this in public, you’ve been warned! Saying that this book turned me on would be the understatement of the year. The smut level is out of this world, thigh clenching, panty wetting, moan out loud, levels 🌊💦

Saige is still everything you could want in an FMC, she’s quirky, thick and sexy, and the love she has for not just her mates, but the other characters as well, is just phenomenal, #reallovegoals.
Sloan, oh how my heart broke for him. He had such an emotional growth in this book, only to go through that ending 😭 💔
Faris is still my favorite, I love his enthusiasm for life. Bran and him are so swoony together 🥵
#checkthesheethesmine 😂
I loved how all the characters developed, not just into better people, but also how their love evolved, with Saige and also with each other.

Vaeryn confirmation of the HUGE life changing surprise made me so happy for all the boys and Saige. I mean come on, how perfect is that!

You need to pick this book up and get to reading, the laughs you get are so unexpected. Britt’s mind would be an interesting place to visit. I can’t wait to read the conclusion to this series. I’ve already preordered it!

Much like how I felt reading this book, my review is likely going to be all over the place. In short, this book was a letdown. Like others have said, there is a lot that happens in this book and much of them left me reeling throughout most of the book. If I had to tell you right now what happened I would honestly struggle with recalling everything. Let’s start with what I liked about the book and then move along into my critiques.

What I liked:

- The relationship between Saige and her men is growing more interesting and feels very natural. With the addition of Farris and Bram, it surprisingly doesn’t feel overwhelming to me reading about 6 guys. Saige does a great job of giving each guy attention and together they have cultivated a very welcoming environment where they all (very clearly) care for each other. When reverse harem is done right, this is how it should be!
- This goes without saying, but Britt can write a damn good sex scene! This book was heavier on the MM and there was more exploring in this book between the guys, which was interesting. In a lot of RH the guys don’t feel open enough to explore a sexual relationship with one another, so this was a new take and pretty interesting to read about. I think this will help strengthen their bond and I look forward to seeing it progress more in the next book.

What I didn’t like:

- Gran. At first she was this quirky old woman that I could laugh with and helped break up some serious moments, but now I’m just over it. I think having a best friend is a great addition to this story but I can’t stand that these quirky characters just end up being written in an obnoxious, childish way. I don’t want to have to cringe my way through a book all because the MCs grandmother won’t stop making out of pocket sexual jokes or comments. It’s just too much for me and I prefer seeing her as this badass witch, not as someone who jokes about how hot her granddaughters boyfriends are.
- The nicknames. If I had to pick one thing to change it would be this, hands down. Honorable mentions are: Peen witch, grumpy buttlord and guppy. The first two are just obnoxious and the latter is a nickname that, if I have to read during one more sex scene, will be the cause of me not reading this series anymore. Characters that use this kind of language come off as adolescent to me, and there is nothing adolescent about having 6 boyfriends (or anything else in this book, for that matter). Every time something like this was mentioned I was taken completely out of the book. Can Saige stick to something sexier for guppy at least? Hell I’d take “Fish” over guppy, just anything else.
- This is the fourth book in the series and, like previously mentioned, a ton happens in each book. I would have LOVED to see a brief synopsis of where we last left off, rather than jumping right in and having to struggle to get myself back into the story. Sure, if you’re reading this immediately after following the previous book this isn’t bad, but if you took a break and came back to this story it would be super helpful to have a quick refresher. Just a thought that I hope Britt implements in her next book!

Overall this book was sexy, fast-paced, and has a lot going for it, but with all of the chaos and the nicknames I think it’s highly likely that I’m going to sit out of reading the next one.

The last chapter slapped me silly, wtf was that??? 😱😱😱

I'm really sorry to say, but a 7-person harem is genuinely too much. The entire series has a bit too many characters in the spotlight with Saige and her 6, her grandparents, parents, Miranda, Anne, the mushroom guy, the weird sisters, Hunter, Palmer, Saige's sister, Asrael, Thane and others. I also think the number of nicknames could be confusing to a lot of people. 😔

The boys are all coupled up and I'm starting to think I don't like that. Saige is also lacking some spice, in the personality department. I don't know what it is, but from the second book I'm a little bit bored, I don't know how to describe it other than boredom, I still like the story, but feel like it's stretched out a little. Also, I don't like how Saige is pregnant with twins, but Bram and Sloane didn't have sex with her on the same day or anything, which makes it improbable and I like to have realism at least somewhere in a paranormal series.

This book had the most amount of smut I think with some threesomes and a lot of MM action. 🔥🔥🔥

Overall, I don't think I will be returning to this series, there is something bugging me about it but I can't quite put my finger on it. 💔

4 star until the last chapter

There's an extremely prominent trigger warning before the last chapter which I was glad of. But it's a bit weird to have read a whole book, only to find that you don't want to read the last chapter, and so have no idea what the duck is going on when the book ends! WTH?

——• 🖤

This was an interesting one, a lot more drama filled compared to the last one but honestly just as good. My favourite thing about this book is that we get to see a lot more of how the dynamics work between the guys. We know that they’re all with Saige but we can start to see other relationships blossom within the harem 🥵🥵🤌🏼🤌🏼

😶‍🌫️Fischer 🔥🐲Sloane
We knew these two already had a relationship but it becomes more deep and less dominated by Sloane.

👹Bram 🧛🏼Faris
You could see something from when Faris was firstly introduced but again becomes deeper. These two also dabble in a little Sloaney Baloney😈

🐾Kaito ⚡️Cameron
This one probably surprised me the most because I didn’t see it coming but their relationship comes to fruition with a game of truth or dare😮‍💨

The 🐉👹 situation had me gasping like the fuck BUT the ending of this one… STFU🙄

Book 5 better be it!!

••••

Saige 🧙🏼‍♀️👹 40% green witch who can manipulate the earths environment and 60% demon which we love!
Kaito 🐾 Shifter Mage, Black Panther with heightened sense of smell, vision, and hearing.
Cameron⚡️ Storm mage, Can manipulate weather within a seventy-five mile radius with the ability to create more localized storms and can generate lightning from his hands.
Sloane 🔥🐲Pyro mage, Master of wards and can manipulate and generate fire from his hands and is also a fucking dragon
Fischer 😶‍🌫️ Cognitive mage, Can read emotions but also push them on others, alter memories and can hypnotise.
Faris🧛🏼Blood mage, super speed, heightened hearing, power of persuasion and healing abilities.
Bram 👹Demon and second to the throne

Fuck me.
I am so pissed at myself for reading this series before the final book is out.
Now I’ve tortured myself with 2 weeks of waiting to see how all of this shit ends happily.

This book was so happy and loving…right up until it wasn’t.

The growth between these characters’ relationships is so satisfying and fun to read.
I’ve devoured these 4 books in two days and it’s all due to the humor and characters.

The plot has gotten so deep and twining, it’s engrossing to try and figure it all out.

And the sex.
Holy fuck, it’s so explosive and sexy. And mercifully plentiful, and varied.

These books have only gotten better as they went on and I am positively salivating to get my hands on the last one.

I need that HEA. Yesterday.

What in the world!!!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 I thought the cliffy at the end of the last book was bad, but seriously!!!!! I am so angry right now!

Besides that absolutely annoying ending that left me reeling, this book was spectacular. And honestly, I am so addicted to cliffies right now that even that isn’t a negative for me.

I loved seeing how the relationships of these characters developed in this book, and not only Sage with her guys, but the guys relationship with each other. I love all of the guys so much.

I am absolutely hooked on this series and I need more! Also, Bridget & Jake Bordeaux do an amazing job with this audiobook. I could listen to Jake all day. Definitely a book to read & start the series if you haven’t already.

What in the ever loving fack was that? That cliffhanger was brutal

The Magic of Destiny book 4 in Britt Andrews’s Emerald Lakes series was hands down one of the hottest books I’ve ever read 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵

Saige a green witch and her harem of hot sexy Alphas, that includes mages, shifters, and demons.

This book is funny, full of action, and had me captivated from cover to cover.

The cave scene had me needing a cold shower 🚿

I can’t wait to read what this author has in store for us next!

I am loving this series! Each character is fun and has their own unique personality and abilities, the plot is exciting and fast paced, and the relationship everyone has with each other is perfect. The books build on each other and Saige and her men grow closer, becoming a real family. This one amps things up with a kidnapping, dragons, and a surprise for the guys. There are still plenty of steamy scenes and this features some new pairings we haven't seen before.

That cliffhanger??! How could you? I'll be starting the final book immediately.

Emotional Rollercoaster

This is the fourth book in a continuing series. You need to read the previous books to understand this one. This book also ends on a significant cliffhanger, however the last book in the series is now out, so you won’t have to wait to get the resolution to all the situations.

TRIGGER WARNING: The final chapter of this book has a trigger warning at the start. I understand why the author has placed the warning at this point rather than at the start of the book as she doesn’t want to cause spoilers, so I won’t list them here. I suggest if you have read this far into the series and have triggers, if you download the book, check the trigger warning before you get too far into the story. Apart from this explicitly given warning, I would also suggest if you have problems relating to emotional abuse coming from a parent that this book may be problematic.

In this book, Saige has all her men back, with the exception of one, Sloane, who has gone to retrieve his father’s ashes. Still unsettled with the fire at Miranda’s and the kidnapping of Annie, Saige is worried about her missing man. It seems The Stars, or destiny, has it out for Saige as nothing ever seems to go right, it’s always out of her control, and yet she’s meant to do so much for others.

This book has a lot of emotional upheaval in it. With disappearances, the possibility of new and the return of old family members, there are a lot of reasons to be emotional.

In amongst the trauma, the team take every opportunity to bond and work their way through the complex web of relationships. Not all the romance in the group is between Saige and her men, some of it is also between the men themselves. There are a lot of hot and steamy scenes in this book too, which will get you hot under the collar.

This book feels very plot and romance focused. Whilst we still keep learning about the characters, the rate at which their secrets are revealed has definitely slowed.

I’m so glad the last book in the series is already out, the cliffhanger is awful. I need to read that book STAT!

Repetitive to the point of predictable.

I was really loving the first book in this series but it just keeps going downhill. First, if you set the mains up as the best of the best team of mercs ever, why do you write them as weak dummies who couldn't defeat of outwit a scout troup? Attacks coming from all sides, no security measures, no guard rotation and splitting up whenever. Worse they finally grow a brain cell and set up a mandatory check in when one heads off to surely be captured, and THEY SLEEP THROUGH IT.

Which is why every book ends on the same damn cliffhanger-- one of the men is dead, dying or captured.

And now she's pregnant and apparently already in crisis, again not a shock as they do literally nothing to protect her or themselves.

Their plan is to go back to the demon world where the insane king tried to rape her, which is a horrible plan that immediately goes wrong because it's not a plan but a stupid idea. Such a stupid idea that its clearly done to set up the cliffhanger and not because of clever or good story writing.

I can prove it. They have a mind reader/alterer. They recently had their minds modified. Captured and tortured guy has gaps in his memory, describes them to himself EXACTLY how they describe Fish's mental meddling but DOESN'T SAY A DAMN THING TO ANYONE ELSE.

And before you say he's traumatized, Sloane's whole thing is that domestic abuse is his trigger. He wakes up strangling his woman and still doesn't let Fish go in and fix shit, even after finding out she's pregnant? The dragon said he and Bram should be hyper protective but you do not see that at all.

They searched through Hunter's brain but after nearly 5 days with the enemy, Bram didn't demand that Sloane be checked out for safety's sake?

Literally the only way any of that makes sense is if you want to reveal in the cliffhanger he's been brain washed.

Same goes with them returning to the demon realm. They know people can shape-shift, its one of the only things they take precautions against but don't get the slightest bit suspicious when the King is acting super sus from second 1?!

My first thought was that's not Thane but these super trained, super powerful guys just never twig on until they are getting their asses kicked yet again.

The thing is, I really like these characters and the group dynamics but it never feels like they are rising up. This whole series feels like we are watching them fall and fall and fall, never learning or getting smarter but at the same time the author keeps saying that no, they are all super, special, incredibly powerful prophesied chosen ones without every showing us that.

So I think for me, this is where the series ends.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Bring your towels and clean panties, maybe spare batteries and a couple of days off work too!

Anyone who's read Britts books before ( If you haven't don't be starting with book 4, you'll miss out sooooo much) will know her dirty, flirty, comedic writing style. The 4th book in this series take everything you loved about the other three and puts a big old engorgement spell on them :D

Saige is incredible. Honestly she's shown so much growth and it just keeps on coming. She's not afraid to lean on her men but knows her strength and inner self worth and just owns every inch of it.

This picks up right where book 3 left off which I'm still not sure if its a good or a bad thing! The secrets and surprises aren't slowing down and that pesky prophecy seems to have plenty of plans none of which are Saige and her men chilling at home for the foreseeable!

Fans of Britts steamy side (is there anyone who isn't a fan at this point?) get plenty of action and I love the way it changes and grows with their family dynamic. Rather than feeling smutty it really does embody the closeness of the bond not just between Saige and each man but between the guys themselves too.

erm that ending though? Not cool Britt, not cool!!

Magic of Destiny is book 4 of the Emerald Lakes Series and picks up right where book 3 ends. Sloan is missing and Annie has been kidnapped by Montague Industries. Hunter (cams brother) returns resulting in an emotional reunion and Faris is still getting used to having a body and powers (he’s completely adorable).
It’s action packed and full of mind blowing twists and turns.

By the stars this book is something else, not only am I’m completely drawn in to the story but the heat is off the charts 🔥🔥🔥 I don’t blush easy but this book had me looking like a tomato, my OH read some over my shoulder and his jaw is still on the floor. It is positively indecent in all the best ways.

This instalment includes heaps of M/M, DP, knotting and tail play.
TW include kidnapping and torture.
The final chapter does come with its own trigger warning but I can’t really say what it relates to without giving away a huge spoiler so if you do have specific triggers the warning is attached to chapter 25.

There is a HUGE cliffhanger ending getting us ready for what is going to be an epic conclusion.

Blown away with it all. The humor, the sexy times and the story line keep you riveted to nothing but this book! Let’s start with the humor because every book needs it but this one is next level and the addition of Faris in the last book and his beautiful freshness continues to add a level you don’t normally see. The sexy time l, oh holy moon maiden! Get a fan, get a towel and five in because whew. And this story. There is just so much but it’s perfect. Despite all the threads going on you never feel rushed or like there is to many irons in the fire. It’s just perfectly balanced with love, good vs evil, and the unexpected. All the praises being said… While Britt is the queen of peen… you know what else she is. A devious mastermind with a uncanny knack for giving you all the feels and awes then just ripping it out and leaving you with a extreme amount of explicits at that cliffhanger she leaves you with. This is no exception to her wtf cliffhangers for this series. I am literally jonesing for the last (sniff sniff) book of this series. I can only imagine it will be as epic a conclusion as her cliffhangers are!

Alright Britt, you did it again. You managed to put my fractured heart back together, make me happier than a lark, all to PUNCH ME IN THE GUT and SHATTER MY HEART.....again.

I don't know when I decided to trust you, maybe it's the sexy, sexy in this book. Or maybe its the Viking Thunder Daddy, whatever it is I would gladly hand over my heart for you to break if you just give them all a HEA.

This series has it all, if you haven't read the first three....move along. There may be some minor spoilers ahead.

Britt keeps you on your toes with this sequel. Wondering when the other shoe is going to drop. Wondering how this story is going to play out for our thick MC. Beware of the cliffhanger, it pops up when you least expect it. I encourage you to read this one, and suffer with me until the final instalment of the Emerald Lakes series hits shelves and kindles near you this fall.

THANK YOU Britt Andrews for sending me an eARC of The Magic of Destiny. This review is being left voluntarily, and all opinions are my own.

Wow what a cliffhanger huh? I’m all over the place in my feelings !! Laurie and Asrael need to go., they bring out the worst in me.
Most of the book I was feeling so bad about how things played out after the end of book three. I knew there was going to be some serious things to work through, Author Britt Andrews not only tackled those issues but also showed how hard trauma can be and how it can effect everyone in the family. Not an easy task for any writer.. but she did it and wow what a story..
Faris has become one of my absolute favorites..he’s such a fun character, he’s hilarious and so curious about everything. You can’t help but love him. Cam is so different from how he was in the beginning .. he seems to have become more of a family man, less of the boss..
Each of the guys has changed so much from Fisher finding out who he is without Faris , to Sloane opening his heart, there’s so much to discover in this book..
As a reader I like that I can follow along easy from book to book because the writing is so good and flows so well.. I fell in love with these characters from the first book and I’m glad that i am still just as captivated by them as I was in the beginning if not more so now. I’m ready for the final book , I want to see how it all comes together after that cliffhanger.. I really I can’t wait!

Once again Britt Andrews has blown my flipping mind! We had action, lust, passion, torment, fear and love. This book was an emotional rollercoaster and worth every second! Saige and her mates continue to experience the battles, ups and downs, of the prophecy. Nothing is ever simple for them unfortunately, but they all continue to love one another and look to the horizon and fight for their happy ending.

As always, Britt Andrews certainly does not disappoint with super steamy, sexy scenes that will have you squealing with joy! Britt introduces some new connections and styles that will have you literally salivating and rooting for the lucky Saige.

Saige and her mates journey continues to be met with trials and tribulations. Asrael is out for ultimate domination and he doesn’t care how he has to get it…their story isn’t over yet, and I fear for what’s to come, but I have hope for their HEA. The connections between Saige and her mates is truly one of the best things I have ever experienced. Their loyalty, love and dedication to one another is something one can only dream of. They’re all stronger together and Asrael underestimates their power…

I cannot wait to see where Britt takes us with the final book in their story 🖤

Before I get to my review of this book, I wanted to address a comment from another reader.
Actually, I found it to be a rather IGNORANT comment about how it was "impossible for her to be pregnant with twins of two different fathers, and that Bram and Sloane hadn't had sex with her in forever."

First off, you idiot. You can in fact have twins with two different fathers!
It's called, Heteropaternal superfecundation.
It occurs when a second egg is released during the same menstrual cycle.
Also, I believe it can happen within days of each other, so before you start making UNEDUCATED assumptions, maybe check your facts first.
I cannot believe how pissed off that reader made me.
I have SEEN this phenomenon. Sure, it's rare... but, it happens.
Kudos to Britt for using a part of real science in her books.

Sigh... deep breath... ok, I am fine now.

I still give three stars for this book... I am happy a certain someone is there. THANK GOD!

I am scared poopless for the next book but, now, I am obsessed and have to finish the series!

Off to book five! Enjoy your day!

Well, that just happened 😳. Hey Britt? What did we ever do to you?! Let me preface this review by saying- that ending was just…mean. And I knew it was coming because I have never had a trigger warning before a chapter before!!In this case it was the LAST chapter 😭 I kinda wanted to stop but instead I put my big girl panties on and squinted my eyes as I read… ANYWAY I’ll be taking that last book now please!!🤲

In all honesty, this was just another great book in this series. I love all the relationships between everyone and we get a lot more development of those in this! Britt Andrews just writes these amazing characters and I love all their personalities! I highlighted so many passages😂

“Fucking sexy ass, Viking-haired, fancy-peened, devil-dicked bastard” 🤣

“I was thinking about how I'm basically a superhero now. Saige: Dick Taker. Saige: Snake Charmer. Saige: Peen Witch.”

Another great book, full of twists, hilarious side characters and tons (and tons) of yuMMy steam🔥

Britt Andrews continues to blow my mind with every new book she releases in the Emerald Lakes Series. The funny, complex heart-warming characters that jump off the pages alongside the innovative and engaging plot is just writing magic.

The characters in this series are part of what makes it such an absolute treat. The combination of funny moments between Saige's family, the steamy times with the sexy men and the deeper moments between Saige and the men provides both the light and shade that highlight relationships in good novels. Also I don't know how she did it but Britt Andrews managed to make this book even hotter than the previous books in the series so bring the towels ladies as you will definitely need them.

The Magic of Destiny provides us with the answers we wanted from the previous books in the series but leaves us with bigger questions when it finally ends. The plot is just as action packed and mind-blowing as previous books so strap in and allow a day off to read it in one sitting.

The Emerald Lakes Series has been one of the hidden gems I have found this year and I have been absolutely amazed at the compelling characters and entrancing plot that each book has contained. That is why The Magic of Destiny is one of my absolute faves of 2021.
