Dream dress, perfect wedding day, but in the dystopian world of Kle, no one lives happily ever after. After the grand ceremony, nothing matters anymore. Rules of this nation require the sacrifice of beloved family, friends, and yourself. Sixteen-year-old Mel is trying to change the course of events and not forget who she is. But remembering turns out to be much more difficult than forgetting. And there is no escape. In this story, there is no glass slipper or handsome prince; there is a shoe made of mud and clay offered during the Golden Slipper Ritual and a fiancé who brings Mel her death sentence.
Would you forgive someone who hurt you? Who tried to destroy you, who betrayed you? Would you forgive them? Would you understand them? How far would you go beyond yourself, to reach to the heart of another human being? Would you let them come to your Force Field? Would you place their good above yours? Would you love someone whom you should hate? Love for hatred.
I read Force Field with bated breath. The story surprised me, and I couldn't stop reading. I wanted to know more about the main character, Mel. Is she going to be okay? Which man is her heart going to choose? The story, although it takes place in a different reality, touches our deepest emotions. It's about love, rejection, and lies. It's about an oppressive system that destroys feelings. I have my favorite parts, but I don't want to spoiler the book. I've read the Hunger Games series, Matched and Divergent, and Force Field is an equally great book.
You know when you see an outfit and you just want to snatch it off the person wearing it and have it for yourself? Well, that’s how I felt about the outfit of the girl who is on the cover of Force Field. That being said, let's talk about the book itself. This book follows Mel, a sixteen-year-old girl who, at the start of the book, is about to marry a man she neither knows nor cares for. After running away from her wedding, the book follows Mel and Nbu, the man she ran away with, as they get increasingly entrenched in the underground resistance movement against their utopian society, Kle. You should read this book if you: ✅Like books that take place in dystopian societies.
✅ Have a busy life and need a book where you can put it down and pick it up without having to remember so much.
✅Like books about forced engagements.
✅ Like books with strong female characters.
✅ Like judging books by their covers 🙈
Before I leave off, I want to take a minute to write about the ending of Force Feild .
I give this book 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars.
Thank you to K.U. Grudowski for sending me an ARC copy of this book.
