It only takes an instant for Grim—monster hunter and emotionally scarred hero—to lose everything.
Grim is having a bad year. A monster hunter by trade, his world is ripped apart when he's cursed with a sickness that's slowly changing him into one of the very creatures he hunts.
Yet there's hope in a truce with his sister, Shelby. If anyone can help, it's her, because she's the strongest witch he knows. But unfortunately, Shelby hates him.
She begrudgingly agrees to help, but Grim has to assist her first. You see, her old coven seeks the bones of a dead witch—magical bones that are supposedly hidden in her house. All Grim has to do is find them to stop the coven from snatching them first.
Now he must navigate a house with a mind of its own—a home that happily throws up obstacles in his path. He must also stop the coven from harming his sister—all while attempting to find a cure for himself.
Can Grim find the bones and stop the coven, or will they get them first? And most importantly, will Grim find a cure for the sickness?
Hey, I’m Amy, I write books for folks who crave laugh-out-loud paranormal mysteries. I help bring humor into readers’ lives. I’ve got a Pharm D in pharmacy, a BA in Creative Writing and a Masters in Life. If you’re dying to know more about my wacky life, here are three things you don’t know about me. —In college I spent a semester at Marvel Comics working in the X-Men office. —I worked at Carnegie Hall. —I grew up in a barbecue restaurant—literally. Something Withering This Way Comes picks up where Grim, the first audiobook, left off. I recommend listening to the series in order for the overall arc, despite the author’s efforts to bring new listeners up to speed.
Grim is a monster hunter who has been cursed with a Withering and is slowly turning. He is traveling with his girlfriend, dog and new companion, Matt. The world is filled with monsters, witches, and magic. He believes his sister, a witch, might help him and so they travel to their ancestral home.
They arrive at his sister’s and, after dealing with the spells and supernatural creatures protecting the property. They are greeted by Shelby, who promptly slams the door in their face. Apparently she is mad at Grim and I don’t find this at all surprising..lol
It seems Shelby has her own problems, as ex-Coven members are seeking the bones of a dead witch buried in the house. An agreement is reached between the siblings to aid each other, and the tale that unfolds pulled me in and kept me listening.
I love magical houses, weird relatives and unusual creatures, and Boyles spins quite the tale. She mixes mystery, humor, romance, friendship and family into the mix, creating characters and stories you get caught up in.
The Withering curse is one I wouldn’t wish on my enemy and its hard seeing Grim struggle to maintain his humanity. We learn of the legend while solving Shelby’s problem. Battles, twists and a hook at the end have me excited for the next audiobook.
Michael Kirby does a wonderful job of delivering the story from Grim’s point of view as he gives voice to the many characters. The story works well on audio and I highly recommend listening. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer
After the way Grim ended, I wasn’t sure what we’d get in this book… but, I was pleasantly surprised. Something Withering This Way Comes is told in a male single POV, which his seriously refreshing, and really makes me want to read more books that are written only in the male’s POV.
Grim is a monster hunter who is turning into a monster… wild, right?!
The relationship between Paige and Grim seems a bit weird to me. It’s like they’re together, yet they aren’t. In Grim, it felt as if they were in a relationship, but just not able to see each other because of what he was going through. So, I wish whatever they have going on was a bit more defined.
Matt, the sidekick side-character, wasn’t as quirky this time around, but I still loved him. And I’m super curious as to what’s going to happen in his future because I have an idea and if it happens, then I’m totally stoked for him!
Grim and his crew are at his sister’s house and it’s magical which is hilarious, though frustrating for the characters. But, it was seriously enjoyable to listen to all the adventures that they had to go on (within the house). I personally listened to the audiobook and absolutely LOVED it. Michael Kirby is the narrator and he brings this story to life beautifully.
At the end of Something Withering This Way Comes, you’re left feeling a bit melancholy because of the decisions that Grim has made. The third book released recently and I can’t wait until the audiobook is available because I’m kind’ve digging listening to this story. This story seriously has me hooked!
I knew I should have waited to read this book but I gave in read it today. Now I have to wait for the final book next March! This was as good as I knew it would be and I've even pre-ordered the final book.
So this one was full of action. Grim's curse is proceeding to invade his body and mind turning him into a withering. He goes to his childhood home to see his sister who is a powerful witch in the hope she can help and discovers she has problems that she needs help with as well. There's stuff that involves the bones of a very powerful witch who was killed and her bones have been guarded by Grim's ancestors to prevent anyone from using them to raise her prom her the dead or release her power. And some very greedy witches who are intent on doing just that. A lot happens that I won't go into because spoilers! I enjoyed it but still wish I would have waited to read it.
The “battles” between Grim and his sister plus the arborhas seemed very realistic. The portrayal of Geezer’s dementia flickering in and out reminded me very much of my grandmother. The necklaces designed to keep the inmates docile made excellent sense. Grim goes home to his sister’s residence to try to get assistance with the withering that has attacked him. However, his relationship with his sister is challenging, and there is a coven of witches attacking his sister’s home. It turns out that the bones of an incredibly evil witch are hidden in the house, which has guardians trying to keep them hidden.
Though this book felt slightly different from the first in the series, I loved the new direction that the author created for Grim and his companions. Grim has to try to find a cure for his Withering sickness. He turns to his sister for help and I loved seeing their broken relationship slowly begin to mend. I am also SO rooting for the little romance that gets teased here!! As things progress, Grim even has to produce his crazy uncle to try and find solutions to their magical problems and every tiny action that causes Grim to soften to the people around him just made me more and more invested. The family relationships here are great. The hunt for solutions (long and short term) all felt crazy and high stakes. I can’t wait to see how things unfold in the third book.
This is a very entertaining paranormal cozy mystery trilogy/serious. Great cast of characters and an entertaining shoreline. Grimm is a monster hunter who is attacked by a specific type of paranormal monster that is infected him. He is in search of a cure or a way to stop the infection. is the second book in the trilogy. It is entertaining full of action in Weird Paranormal and Supernatural creatures and themes. It is a fun and entertaining read. Check it out
This series is so good! Grim is slowly turning into what he hunts, monsters. Even knowing how dangerous his situation is he still places others needs above himself. My heart breaks for Grim and Paige. Watching Matt evolve has become humorous, especially as he tries to woo Grim’s sister Shelby. Their Uncle Geezer is a hoot! I can’t wait to read the last book to find out how everything ends.
Well, another adventure for Grim and Paige, Matt and his sister Shelby, (who hates him) trying to save Grim and helping save his sister from her covenant. Everyone wants something. So, the protecting of the property is underway and finding a cure. Can they find the bones and find a cure, or will all be lost? Can not wait for the next book.

This books was so captivating and entertaining. I read into the early morning hours as I couldn't put it down. I can't wait to get my hands on the next instalment. This is by far the best series by Amy Boyle
Loved this book. Can't wait for the last installment. It is hard to read when Grim tries to push Paige away. For her own good and safety but we just want them to be together. I have to add this installment brought us some new characters to love.
Worth waiting for. Poor Grimm I feel so sorry for him but this is a book I could not put down until I finished it. I enjoy all of Amy's books but Grimm is extra special. I am looking forward to next story about him. Will he get rid of his affliction or wont he? Cant wait to find out
The series’ story continues to build and has me on the edge of my seat. The family matters and relationships Grim has to resolve in this story were humorous and heartfelt. Looking forward to the final installment.
I loved the book. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book. Reading Grim's search for a cure, his relationship with his sister, Matt and Paige kept me turning pages. I am ready for book three in the series.
All they had to do was let the witches try to get the bones in the basement themselves. That ghost would have gotten rid of them & *poof* problem solved. Or send them down the chimney. So many missed opportunities.

This series is absolutely gripping. I could not stop reading until the end! Cannot wait to read the next in the series. The characters are distinct and consistent, the sibling bickering as real as it gets. Well done!
Listen I mean are these books fantastic? No. But they are good, fast, and an easy listen while I'm at work. I love the side characters and honestly I'm a bit invested in the main story. Definitely going to finish the series
I really like how this series brings in characters from the proofing series. It was also filled with witches and magic, mages, monsters, and Witherings.
Totally enjoyed it! This is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
All the elements woven into a wonderful story. Love interest, suspense, adventure, good and evil. It ends with a dose of hope! Can’t wait for the next book!
Enjoyable, easy, read, interesting characters, and a nice flow from the last couple of stories. Looking forward to reading the third and final in this series.
