On a single day, four lives intertwine in unforeseen ways. Virgil Salinas, Valencia Somerset, Kaori Tanaka, and Chet Bullens aren't friends initially, but a prank by Chet that traps Virgil and his pet guinea pig in a well changes everything. This mishap sparks an epic quest by Kaori, Gen, and Valencia to locate Virgil. With a mix of luck, intelligence, courage, and a touch of universal help, a rescue is executed, a bully is put in his place, and friendship blossoms.
Three stars is a little generous. The author has a great style and a way of putting words together that just makes them flow. But the story itself is lacking in depth. Everything just falls right into place; there isn't much growth for the characters. Then again it does take place in one day, do I suppose you can't really expect the characters to change that much in such a short time. In the interview with the author, she states that she focuses on developing her stories starting with her characters. I can definitely see that in the way she's written this book, as the characters and their thoughts take up the meat of the writing, rather than the plot. I do think it would be a good book choice for the age group it is intended for.
