If you are attracted to small town country living, then you are likely to enjoy this light-hearted look at life on the farm. Boulton divided the book by the season, so we have stories from spring, then summer, then autumn, then winter. I enjoyed most of the stories and found the reading experience to be very relaxed. My one issue is that a humorous look at life on the farm means that bad things that might happen to the animals are glossed over. A dog met his end in an encounter with a cement truck, for example. I am sure that Boulton felt the pain of that loss, but writing the death as cheery, in keeping with the overall tone of the book is a mistake. It would not have taken away from the book to show real feelings about the loss of one's dog, in my opinion. I think that might sum up the main drawback - humour prevailed at the expense of real feelings. The writing was all in the same light-hearted tone that flattened the emotional impact of the stories. However, that approach worked for many of the stories of 'quirky country living' and it was overall, an enjoyable read.
Loved this book from the first story. It's inspirational, informational and fun all at once. It's a leave-on-your-bedside-table-and-read-one-story-every-night kind of book.
