The book is formatted like an argumentative essay. Hugh Ross starts by stating why young earth creationism (6,000 years) is fallacious in multiple accounts, then shows the scientific and Biblical evidence for an old earth. He talks about the theological aspects as well. At the end, he provides a scientific look at Genesis 1. He does a nice job providing a well-rounded look at everything a dissenter would be interested in (scientific, Biblical, and theological aspects both refuting counterargument and supporting his own). He even shows why YEC should be abandoned instead of just ignored. The chapters are neatly separated, and he only goes slightly off-topic at the end. He uses logical, scientific, historical, and ethical appeal. I would recommend this book 1. If you believe the earth is 6000 years old, to see what others think (not necessarily to change your opinion) 2. If you think all Christians believe that 3. If you are a Christian and feel awkward about not believing it 4. If you are interested in this kind of thing.
