Review for the complete series

Aoi is the school president of a prestigious middle school and is known as a 'AAA' student. Her school often doesn't see eye to eye with the neighbouring public middle school where the students are known to be delinquents. Coincidently, it turns out Aoi's crush, whom she met during entering exams, ended up in the public school and is even known as the school's delinquent boss!

AAA is one of Fukushima's better attempts, though it's not a sophisticated work, it's cute enough and has a certain entertainment value. The plot is nothing too unusual: the goodie-two-shoes from a fancy school falls for the bad boy. I quite like that neither of them are overly prejudiced against each other and that the whole issue lies more in how others are against it. I'm tempted to say that it had a very light-hearted Romeo & Juliette touch.

I think silly and more comedic manga suit Fukushima better as she always fails to come up with logical conclusions to serious matters. This is also a slight issue in AAA as some of the issues raised are simply left unaddressed: Hayato, the boss delinquent, is an intelligent student who came out on top for the entrance exams, yet he ended up in the public school and absolutely no reason was given. Additionally, a relative of his is introduced halfway through the series and apparently they hate each other but the conflict is never explored nor addressed. On the other hand, I found that this manga had a stronger supporting cast than many of Fukushima's other works. If she had spent more time exploring the side characters or issues other than the romance, this could have been a much stronger story.

As it is, it literally comes down to Aoi and Hayato finding a way to each other. Their relationship is generally cute with typical love-to-hate-you teasing going on. That being said, Aoi is introduced as strong and confident - at least one would expect as much from a head girl - but she's got no backbone whatsoever when it comes to Hayato teasing her. Whenever he teases her, she becomes upset, throws something back at him and marches off - that in itself is fine but the moment she's gone, she wonders whether Hayato is angry with her. If anything, she has a reason to be angry with him and not the other way around, so it was a little tiring after a while.

In terms of art, Fukushima has made a strange development. I'd say her art has improved overall and the girls are cute though very typical shoujo. Where the boys are concerned, I can't say I am impressed at all. She's started giving male characters a strange lidded expression which I believe is meant to make them look cool but to me, it just looks dopey. Also, an ongoing issue I've had with Fukushima is that her characters are often in the younger range of teenagers and I don't really appreciate sexualized scenes for characters that age. However, if you're going to do it, do it properly - and Fukushima doesn't. She likes to draw scenes with shirtless boys but what we end up with are boys wearing skin t-shirts. If you can't draw a naked male torso, don't do it.

It's a shame that this manga has several flawse as I do believe it could have been quite the nice RomCom if it had been done a little better. That being said, I do still think that this is a cute and entertaining enough manga to give a try. Don't expect too much and you may be rewarded with a quick and fun read.

t’s been a long time since I had a really sweet and hilarious romance covered on the blog. I may be lying about romance, as I’ve been mostly covering that on my blog. But it was quite a long time since I enjoyed the romantic comedy so much. I read the manga in June and wrote a review also in June, but I totally forgot about I, and well, here it is now. I re-read it a bit so I could rewrite some parts of the review.

First of all, I never really paid attention to the “You May Also Like” widget on Goodreads. So, if you are like that too, I highly recommend you to check it sometimes. I mean I found this awesome story because I looked at that widget and to say the truth I found many more interesting mangas there. I’ll cover them sometime soon. Okay, let me get back to the story. There are only 15 chapters, but the story is fully developed ad you feel completed when you finish reading it. Even when I finish a completed manga I always have this feeling of seeing something more, but not this time. Somehow, even though I didn’t really want to say goodbye to the characters that grew on to me, the goodbye was quite okay. Everything came to some kind of conclusion and I was very content with all answers.

The story has lots of fun moments, but at the same time there were many things that made you think. The stereotypes of good schools and bad schools were what the author focused on. I believe she wanted to show us, that we should never put everyone under one umbrella. Sometimes, even delinquents can be good. Both Aoi and Hayato are amazing characters. There is a lot of character development in the 15 chapters and not only for one character but for both. Though it is more Aoi that changes. But if you do think about, it was more about Aoi than Hayato. I do believe there was not much of Hayato’s development. He was an awesome male character from the very beginning. The way he had fun on Aoi, and the way he concealed his true feelings from her, were adorable. I really loved when they finally admitted their feelings and Aoi finally became a girlfriend, not a lackey.

I hope you’ll find same time to read this great story. You’ll love it a lot, well I did. Enjoy it to its fullest and don’t forget to share your thoughts below! Stay tuned for more reviews as well as promos. Don’t miss your next favorite book or manga! Happy reading!

XOXO

The first volume of any romance manga is always a miss for me. Only because it's filled with all the cringiest cringe and very unrealistic situations. The first volume is also where we make our first impression on the main characters. It's almost always over the top. All that I explained is exactly what occurs in this manga.

We have a popular girl who is at the top of her class in academics in a prestige school, she's nice, caring and rule follower. She also fell in love with a guy who let her borrow a pencil at the entrance exams. (Yes, just because of that.) Sadly, she never sees him after that day so she keeps this pencil in hope that destiny will bring them together again. Then one day as she's trying to stop a fight from the delinquent school next door, (Yes. The schools are literally next to each other.) the boss delinquent of the school takes her special pencil. So she discuises herself as a boy, goes to the other school, and demands the boss returns her pencil. Yeah, turns out that wasn't exactly a good idea. Somehow, the girls shirt is unbuttoned (I seriously have no idea how this happened) durring this encounter and the boss decides to take a pic of her exposed bra. He then tells her she must do anything he says or he will spread the picture. of course we're supposed to pretend this isn't wrong in every way and automatically know he would never ACTUALLY spread the picture. *sarcasm*

Minor spoiler ahead******

Turns out the boss delinquent is the boy who let her borrow the pencil. DUN DUN DUN. Like we all didn't already know.

not for me.

i’ll drop this series since i’ve got other manga i’d rather read. i enjoyed the premise, but the execution wasn’t my taste. it was too overdramatized and maybe it was just the translation i was reading (since there isn’t an official english translation, which i didn’t realize until i picked it up) but it was kinda losing me with the plot. honestly i’m sure that was just me not paying enough attention, but i just finished this volume even though i knew i wouldn’t continue the series. if i ever am in the mood for something more juvenile like this, i could see myself possibly coming back around to this, but i’ve just got other mangas i’d rather read right now. not to mention i’ve gotten kinda spoiled reading official translations and my tolerance for fan translations has gone down a lot, to the point that it’s sometimes a deciding factor when picking a manga to read.

This manga is too easy to figure out right away. You can tell they where going to end up together and fall in love with each other. The story/plot was boring. This Manga is boring simple annoying nice easygoing. I did not like the 2 main characters and the rest of the characters where not needed at all. It's like they where just put there to fill it up. There was no real understanding of anything at all.

She fell in love with a boy for no reason at all. She did not even know him at all. She fell for him just by giving her a pencil WTF OMG.

There was no real school/classes/lessons at all for a school manga.

She let him treat her so badly/bully her and yet she still love him/like it WTF.

She would not even go to a teacher.

He was just being a little child.

4 STARS. Did I just reread this series after reading them all yesterday? Yes. Yes I did. What can I say? IT’S JUST SO STINKING ADORABLE. *ALL the sparkly eyes* Is it cliche? Yes. Is it cute anyway? YES!

But in all seriousness, this manga is truly adorable. The art is SO cute. The story is even cuter. Although it’s probably cliche, I admit, I enjoyed every second of it. All of the characters combined with the plot keep you always engaged and riveted. For being so short, it’s good at making stuff happen and the plot progress. It’s light and fluffy. Sometimes that’s all you need. Though I tend to love lots of shoujo manga, I just know this one is going to be a favorite.

So, yeah. You should read it :)

I always enjoy Haruka Fukushima's mangas. They're funny, cute and slightly weird, a great combination she pulls off so very well. This one is no exception, while slightly predictable because I have read so many of her works.
