Beatrix Potter's tales have delighted young readers for generations, and our treasury includes eight of her best-loved stories. Since the first publication of her stories, her whimsical animal friends have made their way into children's hearts and taught them simple lessons about life through their trials and triumphs. Here you will find such favorites as Peter Rabbit, Benjamin Bunny, Squirrel Nutkin, and Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, among others. Their lively adventures are accompanied by Beatrix Potter's original illustrations, creating a fun and enchanting world that will entertain both young and old.
Helen Beatrix Potter was an English author, illustrator, mycologist, and conservationist who is best known for her children's books, which featured animal characters such as Peter Rabbit.
Born into a wealthy household, Potter was educated by governesses and grew up isolated from other children. She had numerous pets, and through holidays in Scotland and the Lake District, developed a love of landscape, flora, and fauna, all of which she closely observed and painted. Because she was a woman, her parents discouraged intellectual development, but her study and paintings of fungi led her to be widely respected in the field of mycology.
In her thirties, Potter published the highly successful children's book The Tale of Peter Rabbit and became secretly engaged to her publisher, Norman Warne, causing a breach with her parents, who disapproved of his social status. Warne died before the wedding.
Potter eventually published 24 children's books, the most recent being The Tale of Kitty-in-Boots (2016), and having become financially independent of her parents, was able to buy a farm in the Lake District, which she extended with other purchases over time.
In her forties, she married a local solicitor, William Heelis. She became a sheep breeder and farmer while continuing to write and illustrate children's books. Potter died in 1943 and left almost all of her property to The National Trust in order to preserve the beauty of the Lake District as she had known it, protecting it from developers.
Potter's books continue to sell well throughout the world, in multiple languages. Her stories have been retold in various formats, including a ballet, films, and in animation.
What a delightful collection of stories and beautiful illustrations! The children loved me reading this aloud to them and we checked out the original short Beatrix Potter films that were a great compliment to our reading!
Cute stories and cute illustrations. I loved this book as a child, and the doodles inside say that I was not the only one of my siblings. Plus with how beat up it is, and missing the last few pages, this was a book we went to again and again. Very sweet, fun stories.
My mother ordered this book for some young relative when I was a teenager, but once I saw it, I wouldn’t let go, so she relented and it became mine. I thought this was all the stories, but I see now it’s only about a third of them. I need to find the rest!
Love the illustrations, how the characters from the different stories overlap, and how the author directly addresses the reader. I could have used a translator throughout the book with some of the old phrases!
It was cute. I remember loving Beatrix Potter when I was little and I still have the same collection I did as a little girl. I picked this up because I've been reading a collection of children's books and this seemed like something I could read every day if I wanted - or just read it in one go.
We have read through this Treasury both in Kindle form and hardback several times. My kids love Beatrix Potter and her furry friends! I loved the stories as a child as well so it has been a delight to read them to my own kids.
This book is illustrated with Beatrix Potters own art. The stories included are:

Benjamin Bunny - The rabbit who helps his cousin Peter get his clothes back from Mr. McGregor
Squirl Nutkin - a squirl who unwisely teases an owl again and again
Two Bad Mice - two mice who steal from a doll house
Mrs. Tiggy-winkly - the hedghog who is wash lady to all the animals

The characters are charming and the lessons about kindness, prudence and obiedence are simple for children to grasp. John asks for this book daily and there are enough stories that we don't get bored.
John's favorite story: Squirl Nutkin. He likes the songs that Nutkin sings to tease the old owl.
This book contains eight classic stories that Beatrix Potter wrote. They include; The Tale of Peter Rabbit, The Tailor of Gloucester, The Tale of Benjamin Bunny, The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, The Tale of Mr. Jeremy Fisher, The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin, The Tale of Two Bad Mice, and The Pie and the Patty Pan. All of the stories in this big book were excellent. Beatrix does a great job in telling stories and teaching lessons. The pictures and the text work wonderfully together to help the reader use their imagination. I would use this book with my children. These stories and pictures are classics. They would love the animals in the stories, and they would learn great lessons from the stories as well.
I recently found this book again, it had been one of my favorites when I was little. The introduction to Beatrix Potter's life is pretty neat, I remember learning how unfair it was for her to be denied so many freedoms simply because she was a woman. These are lovely little stories with darling illustrations. I can't wait to read these to my son. I especially love the story of the patty pan - Duchess the dog looks just like my dramatic little mutt.
From the first tale where Peter Rabbit barely escapes the hoe of Farmer McGregor to the tale of a frog who fishes for supper (hence the name:Jeremy Fisher, LOL!) Beatrix Potter continues to attract kids of all ages with whimsical writing of lovable animals in settings so wondrous you may not want to leave--and neither will your mom and dad!
4 stars This should be on every child's shelf. Potter's beautiful nature themed art is so inspiring. Most children will love the story of Peter Rabbit, but I was always partial to Hunca Munca from Two Bad Mice myself.😊
In love with the miscellaneous of Beatrix Potter and her children's stories. And Peter Rabbit is one of my favorites. His character reminds me about my childhood and the mischievous I've done. Lol.
