Rid yourself of eczema forever! Based on new research, this book has everything the millions of eczema sufferers need to know to free themselves from unbearable itching and unsightly rashes. Eczema–Free For Life contains the latest medical information about the cause, symptoms, and treatments of eczema and is written both for adults with eczema and the parents of children with eczema. In addition to the most recent medical research, Dr. Nasir offers guidance for home care and ways to cope with the psychological impact of the disorder. None of the popular books about eczema currently on the market is written by a practicing dermatologist and none is based on up–to–date science. New research has conclusively demonstrated that eczema is the result of the abnormal development of some twenty genes responsible for controlling how the skin interacts with the environment. When the skin's barrier function fails, irritants pass through to underlying tissue and trigger the itchy rash that characterizes eczema. Dr. Nasir will explain new and more powerful treatments that are being developed based on these new discoveries as well as point out reliable holistic remedies that have worked for centuries.
Great general knowledge book for Eczema. I learned a lot from this book and have applied that for little Josephine who has mild Eczema and I’ve seen results from the recommendations. So glad I read this.
The book provides clear explanations of the condition itself, but I found some statements to be questionable—for example, the claim that a rash can only appear after scratching, which isn’t accurate. The advice focuses solely on eczema affecting the body, with no specific guidance on treating atopic dermatitis on the face, which can be particularly severe. The research findings presented were often inconclusive and lacked supporting evidence, as well as details on who conducted the studies and how they were carried out.
The one thing that I don't think has aged well in this book is the claim that diet has no impact on eczema - something I would argue he contradicts three separate times when he states that alcohol is a common eczema trigger, caffeine can be an eczema trigger, and oolong tea can be beneficial.
Other than that, I still think this is one of the best books out there. I really wish there were more like it, especially more modern guides...a lot of eczema books now read like advertisements.
Dr. Nasir, in simple language explains the science behind this troublesome ailment. In addition he gives suggestions for managing exzema, not only for individual sufferers, but for parents of victims. I felt it was well-written, complete, concise and gripping.
