REVIEW FOR THE ENTIRE STORY
This one surprised me in the best way!!
It’s very much a coming-of-age story, not just in the usual "young love" sense but in how both Siwon and Daun have to slowly unravel their own emotional baggage.
They’re kind people, a little broken in their own ways, but watching them find comfort in each other was just really... healing? Their romance grows at a steady, careful pace and actually feels earned, which I always appreciate.
Also, the side characters carried!! Yoonjung was such a standout, she’s that rare female character in BL who gets to be both a romantic rival and a friend and not in a throwaway way. She’s just genuinely lovely: confident, graceful and respectful of boundaries. I’d read a whole spinoff about her tbh. Bawoo was also so soft, the quiet kind of loyal that doesn’t make a fuss unless it really matters. Hoon was fun and kind of oblivious, which made their dynamic interesting, even if…
Okay, and here’s where I struggled a bit: I like Bawoo and Hoon as characters but I didn’t quite buy into them as a couple. It felt a little one-sided sometimes, like Bawoo was in it romantically and Hoon just didn’t want to lose a friend. The story gave them time and space to grow, which I respect, but even if they’d stayed friends, I wouldn’t have minded. There’s something tender about that kind of unresolved love too.
As for the villains…yeah, they were beyond redemption, and the story didn’t pretend otherwise, which was satisfying. But the dynamic between Daun and his cousin hit harder. That wasn’t about fixing anything but about facing how deep generational hurt runs, especially in toxic families. I liked that their confrontation wasn’t a magic fix. It was just... honest. Quietly powerful. And sometimes that’s enough.
All in all, this was such a well-crafted story. The art is lovely, the characters are layered and their relationships, especially the friendships, feel real in that quiet, grounding way.
They’re not always side-by-side but when it really matters, they show up for each other, no hesitation. There’s also a subtle yuri subplot woven in, which was a nice surprise and handled with care. It honestly gave me Love So Pure vibes, just with a different emotional weight, less smut…more scars.
If you’re looking for a shounen-ai that leans into healing, connection and messy-but-beautiful growth, this one’s definitely worth the read!!!

La manía de los mangas de dejarte a medias. Menos mal que se publican rapidillo.
Este es un manwha BL con un humor un tanto absurdo que me he tenido que reír porque los personajes son MUY tontos 😂
Siwon está *obsesinado* con la popularidad desde que de pequeño sufrió bullying y es feliz con su estado actual hasta que llega Daun, un chico que es perfecto sin esfuerzo y que se lo tiene una mijita creído (sus, "que guapo soy" es que 🤣). Ahí es cuando entra la vergüenza, la competición interna de Siwon y el mejor malentendido de todos cuando Daun se cree que está enamorado de él - lo dicho, un personaje.
Entre la obsesión extraña de Siwon y lo intensamente dramático que es Daun, esto es una risa tras otra con muchas absurdeces. Al inicio se me hacían muy tontos pero al final me dejaron con una sonrisa de lo cucos que son 🥰
Los secundarios también tienen supuntazo: la hermana con su crushazo y la pareja grumpy x sunshine que pide a gritos más. Obsesionada me he quedado con elos.
Ritmo ligero, humor absurdo y un final que te deja con ganas de más pues apenas ha hecho más que presentar la historia. Sin duda un BL divertido y con personajes entrañablementes tontos que te ganan sin darte cuenta.

Shockingly sweet, poignant and funny webtoon about a narcissist and attention-whore falling in love. This may be the first time I’ve ever actually finished reading the source material for a kdrama. Much better than the adaptation. (Full series review.)

Sind wir mal ganz ehrlich. Allein das Cover von »Who can define popularity« ist schon zum Dahinschmelzen. Es hat auch nicht lange gedauert, bis ich mich in den Rest dieses Bandes verliebt hatte. Daun und Siwon sind Zucker und der Auftakt ist absolut humorvoll und romantisch. Aber erstmal so viel zum Inhalt:
Siwon wurde früher wegen seines Aussehens gemobbt und trägt noch einige unverheilte Wunden davon auf dem Herzen. Daun hingegen ist Naivität in Person und ich musste wirklich so oft lachen, weil er einfach gar nichts peilt. Natürlich hält Siwon überhaupt nichts von Daun, dem, in Gegensatz zu Siwon, alles zuzufliegen scheint. Da ist es nur logisch, dass Siwon ihm ein Gefühl von Hass entgegenbringt. Komisch nur, dass Hass eigentlich keine Schmetterlinge im Bauch verursacht.
Jap, genau an dieser Stelle hatten mich die Zwei auch überzeugt und ich war es, die ein Flattern in der Magengegend verspürt hat. Das ist beim Lesen übrigens garantiert. Wenn ihr euch in die beiden Lovebirds nicht verguckt, dann weiß ich auch nicht. Das Setting ist das College und thematisiert werden Ausflüge, Feste und natürlich deren Organisation, die Siwon und Daun regelmäßig zusammenbringt. Der Fokus liegt hier voll und ganz auf der Romance und das ist dem Titel auch furchtbar gut gelungen. Wer Lust hat ein bisschen zu schmunzeln und zu schmelzen, der greift hier definitiv nicht daneben.
Was mir auch gut gefallen hat: Zu Beginn liegt der Fokus auf den Hauptpersonen, aber schon ab der Mitte des Bandes zeichnen sich einige weitere wichtige Charaktere ab. Zudem entwickeln sich auch dort romantische Bände und die stehen in Sachen Herzklopfen Siwon & Daun in nichts nach. Ein romantischer Auftakt also für genussvolle Lesestunden. Übrigens ab 12 Jahren, also unfassbar schön, süß und trotzdem zurückhaltend. Lieben wir!

!! MILD SPOILERS !!
Who can define popularity is definitely a must read!! I will admit in the beginning I was very doubtful that I wouldn't like it but the more that I went on with reading it the more I started to enjoy it. That characters are so well written respectfully. Some people are saying like oh they come off as narcissistic and super egoistical like um yeah that's the whole point? When you see the backstory of each both the main characters you get to see why the act in that manner. Especially the main character Siwon Cha who was bullied to the point he wanted to change everything about himself just so that he could be liked and not feel like that again. They both went through so much together and I can say that they have a good love story! I will defend this with my life. Another thing what makes this Korean bl so well written is how thought out the side characters are too. ESPECIALLY Bawoo and Hoon, to me personally their love story hits so close to home as someone who identifies with being queer. They are so beautifully written, and they complement this book/comic so nicely, they are both my favorite characters. It showed a very real view on being outed by the one person that you loved most and the homophobia dealing with it. I loved the ending so much, it changed the way that I viewed things in my life. definitely became my top 1 favorite book/comics trust me it hits so close to home.

a goog, wholesome, and light easy read
i lowk don’t really get how daun even fell for siwon but whatever! !! they’re cute!!!
i liked the introspective themes they added bc lowk im realizing im starting to find school life boring and repetitive so the whole found family + self acceptance arcs were SOOO powerful and were great to read
it wrapped up p quickly all things considered, like without bonuses, there are definitely some stories that could’ve been expanded on, like the side couples
but i’ll j read the side stories LOL it’s whatever
anyways i think that this story is the epitome of fluff and did really well and showing the characters growths/development as time went on bc damn
its so awesome seeing them become more comfortable and honest with themselves and their feelings
like you go guys!!!
i think the plot was still a little simple and lowk siwon was kinda ugly for the first 40 chapters but he got better it’s ok!!!
overall this was a cute story and everyone is full of green flags!! they communicate!!!! love that!!!!!

Aunque ambos personajes son un poco pedantes (por el tema de la popularidad), la verdad es que les coges cariño. Al ser varios tomos, la historia transcurre de manera más tranquila y pausada, permitiendo un mejor desarrollo de los personajes.

Me quedo con adaptación.

Todos los personajes son muy complejos y me gustó conocerlos🩷 me gustó que hasta los antagonistas de la serie les dieran más profundidad y hasta empatizara con ellos.
No le pongo 4 estrellas porque me faltó un poquiito más de romance y tuve la sensación de que no quedaron bien cerradas algunas sub tramas de otras parejas dentro de la serie (Si, te estoy hablando a ti Bawoo🫵, y también a ti Yoonjung🫵)
Pero los protagonistas me encantaron, son bien cutes y se nota que se quieren bonito✨

Zuallererst möchte ich mich für das Rezensionsexemplar bedanken, welches mir von Papertoons bereitgestellt wurde. Dieser Fakt beeinflusst aber in keiner Weise meine persönliche Meinung zu diesem Buch. Der Post enthält Werbung und die Rechte liegen beim Verlag.
Natürlich ist dies nur meine persönliche Meinung und nur weil ich diesem Buch diese Bewertung zukommen lassen, heißt es nicht, dass es auf jeden anderen zutrifft.
Als ich den Klappentext gelesen habe war ich zunächst etwas unsicher, ob die Geschichte wirklich das richtige für mich ist. Ich habe schon ein paar Boys Love Geschichten gelesen (darunter auch Heartstopper mit dem ja im Klappentext geteasert wird) aber ich wusste nicht genau, ob eine Komödie das richtige für mich ist.
Im Großen und Ganzen hatte ich damit recht. Es hat nicht zu 100% meinen Humor getroffen und ich wurde es auch nicht zwingend mit Heartstopper vergleichen, da dies doch schon ein paar schwere Themen behandelt. Es fehlte mir ebenfalls ein bisschen an Tiefe für die Charaktere. Ein paar Beweggründe waren zwar klar aber so richtig greifen konnte ich die Charaktere nicht.
Da dies aber der erste Band einer Reihe ist vermute ich mal, dass die Tiefe wahrscheinlich in den nächsten Bänden kommen wird und man evtl. auch ein paar mehr Vergangenheitsrückblicke bekommt.
Das Lesen hat mir trotzdem sehr viel Spass gemacht und auch der Aufbau der Story gefiel mir. Es ist natürlich ein großer Bonus, dass die Geschichte komplett in Farbe ist und auch dies hat zu meinem Lesevergnügen beigetragen.
