“This book is so good! Each entry has tons of wisdom. The illustrations are fabulous, and Thea Ernest is loaded with visual knowledge. The book is funny, but it’s profound, you realize, after you’ve read about four of the entries. Then, you go back, got to read them again, think things over. Wilcox, who’s worked fifty-five years in her field, powerfully condenses her learnings about human behavior, and then, best of all, makes the teachings accessible.” —Daisy Broudy, LICSW
“Simple Therapy Snippets (the brainchild of author Cynthia Wilcox and illustrator Thea Ernest) is a tender, gently nuanced, and lovingly crafted gem of a book—a slender volume and ‘easy read’ that somehow manages to offer ‘therapeutic tidbits’ that are at once simple (yes) but profound, humble but sophisticated, unassuming but quietly compelling, and subtle but absolutely riveting. Partaking of the ‘tasty bites’ is a supremely efficient way to expose yourself to some delightfully evocative (and humorous) pearls of wisdom about life, relationships, communication, feelings, and authenticity—the words and the illustrations complementing each other beautifully!
“At the end of the day, Simple Therapy Snippets is a handy guide to ‘living well.’ Even the titles of some of the tidbits—‘No Is a Full Sentence’ and ‘The Courage to Live in the Space of Not Knowing’—will whet your appetite for making a commitment to living, going forward, with more clarity, courage, conviction, and consciousness.
“Just as you will probably get as much out of your life as you are willing to put into it, so too you will probably get as much out of this book as you are willing to put into it. So, please, cherish the finely honed wisdom contained on the pages within this uplifting volume, relax into their refreshing flow, and revisit them whenever you are in need of a little inspiration and some cost-effective ‘at-home therapy’!” —Martha Stark, MD; Faculty, Harvard Medical School; Award-winning author of nine books on the integration of psychoanalytic theory and practice, including Relentless The Refusal to Grieve
“Many years ago, Cynthia saved my life. As I read through Simple Therapy Snippets, I am reminded of all the hard work she and I undertook. I remember well sifting through my ‘Childhood Survival Skills’, my ‘Relentless Hope’ and many other ‘Snippets’ Cynthia has compiled in this extraordinary book.
“Simple Therapy Snippets compiles many of the concepts which were so helpful to me as I walked with Cynthia through my healing journey. Simple Therapy Snippets describes the beliefs one can hold about oneself and the explanation of why those beliefs become so deeply rooted.” —Rose Bottari
“I like this book a lot. Simple, easy-to-read advice. Cynthia has collected a lot of wisdom over the years.” —Farrell Klein MD, Newport Hospital
In an easy, quick read, Cynthia Wilcox distills down into a handy guidebook over four decades of training and experience as a licensed, clinical therapist. This is the kind of book I plan on keeping around – always. I can see myself picking it up from time to time for another read. And then another, to remind myself of how to keep my outlook focused, stable and in perspective. Simple Therapy Snippets is something I expect will serve me well for many years to come. I believe that simply because the book is simple. Designed for the layman, it’s not overburdened with dense psychological research and the like. Just straightforward common sense based on the author’s decades of professional work. One snippet stood out to me, that of the Questions vs. Statements. I hope I now can practice that technique because I think it will serve me well. Read it and you will see why. David R. Schoorens, Author
If you wanted to dip a toe in the therapy pool, this would be a good pool to try. Very simple. Basically a therapy children's book. The information is legit and could be helpful. About a fifteen minute read. Illustrations feel unnecessary to me but maybe they are helpful for other people.
