"Ken and I have no mechanical parts; we're totally organic and human from head to toe. ... We were - how do I explain this - sort of put together rather than born." (Loc. 191-4)While they both have the appearance of "normal" - albeit somewhat Amazonian - human beings, they possess heightened abilities that aid in their investigations, the downside being their need to "plug in" via USB cord to the underarm every couple of days to recharge.
"...my DNA and that of the people who made me might or might not have intersected." (Loc. 359)Olivia Grey and Brandon Wilder had gone into hiding, principally to protect the anonymity of their special "offspring", when Fran and Ken were young children, and they haven't seen them since. Fran and Ken were raised by their kindly Aunt Margie, who remains a daily presence in their lives, living in an apartment on the floor below them.
"I had a thousand loose ends and I'd never learned to crochet." (Loc. 3533)Fran and Ken make unusual but lovable protagonists, with a well-developed sibling relationship and plenty of great repartee. I look forward to reading further instalments in the series.
