O Poema do Haxixe

Rate this book
Text nejznámějšího z "prokletých" básníků, esej o účincích hašiše. České vydání po více než osmdesáti letech.

"Baudelaire podrobně popisuje jednotlivá stádia opojení a vystřízlivění, tedy mechanismy kolotoče, z nehož vyskočit příšerně bolí.

Public condemned Les fleurs du mal (1857), obscene only volume of French writer, translator, and critic Charles Pierre Baudelaire; expanded in 1861, it exerted an enormous influence over later symbolist and modernist poets.

Reputation of Charles Pierre Baudelaire rests primarily on perhaps the most important literary art collection, published in Europe in the 19th century. Similarly, his early experiment Petits poèmes en prose (1868) ( Little Prose Poems ) most succeeded and innovated of the time.

From financial disaster to prosecution for blasphemy, drama and strife filled life of known Baudelaire with highly controversial and often dark tales of Edgar Allan Poe. Long after his death, his name represents depravity and vice. He seemingly speaks directly to the 20th century civilization.

I believe this book might have been useful at the time when nobody knew much about weed. But these days there is nothing useful for me that I would take out of the book. I don´t want to scorn by that, it wouldn´t be fair… I´m convinced it could be intersting in the days of 19th century, but these days when everybody smokes grass it is only relic.

We are used to hearing about shooting at high scholls, people being killed on the streets and I ought to be fascinated by this book? No.

So it comes to no surprise that I wasn´t enthralled by the book

Baudelaire's phenomenology of the hashish experience describes the drug as a sort of black magic, one that allows artist or poet to transcend the typical chains of daily life and catch a glimpse at the beauty of eternity at the cost of sacrificing their will and vitality. It reads both in praise of the drugs' ability to deliver a satisfaction for what Baudelaire calls the "longing for infinity," but ends on a cautionary note in which the terms of a somewhat dated morality are used to warn against the dangerous effects of the drug in which, similar to opium, one's stupor leads them to become trapped in their gaze into the face of Narcissus. Here's where Crowley, it seems, got excited. The drug's ability to transform the user into the above and the below suggested the prevalence its role in Thelemic magic.

a short and very captivating read, i found myself immediately enjoying baudelaire's style (though i don't know the accuracy of the translation) and his description of the weed experience made me laugh out loud at times due to its sheer relatability. however my laughter quickly seized when he went on to describe his moral and philosophical issues with (particularly regular) weed consumption. it made me take a hard look at my own habits and i must admit that i saw myself in some of the less favorable descriptions of the weed user. i will definitely have to read this again to deepen my understanding of his ideas, but it has already started to challenge my beliefs. very glad to have read it.

I read a few of the reviews underneath. A lot of them don't think it's useful. To be sure, I think it can be, but today it can also be better ways to prepare a weed. But i don't wanna talk about what's inside this book. In my opinion this peace had been really well written. For me, it was readable and interesting, which is tricky, because i dont like classics authors. After the fact that it's not a poem, i was surprised and happy. Also it's necessary to say that learn about this weed is fine and I'm glad i read it.
