THIS IS SCOTLAND THE LAND OF GHOSTS There is something about the tall mountains and lonely forests that make Scotland the perfect setting for these dark and macabre stories. Maybe it is the solitude you can find within minutes of leaving the city. Maybe it’s the way the mist can quickly descend from the hills to leave you feeling alone and isolated. This is a country that remains trapped by the history of ancient past battles, a people still searching for their true identity in the world. A once proud Kingdom now ruled by others. This is Scotland, the land of ghosts. This book contains seven dark tales set in the beautiful glens and countryside of my nation, Scotland. I dare you to seek out The Watcher who preys on those we love, escape to Ben Nevis as the floods close in, weep with the man who can never be free of his dead mother, and walk beside the boy who will always wonder if his first love was only a figment of his imagination. Seven dark and macabre tales from Scotland.
You are in for a treat if you read 'A Ghost in the Glen' by prolific author Richard M Pearson. This wordsmith delivers unique, chilling, and macabre tales, both brutal and raw, yet with a surprisingly tender, heartfelt tone.
They say that variety is the spice of life. Here , in one book , we have seven completely different tales, bursting with emotion and drama, the common factor being the Scottish landscape.
What better way to spend a winter's night than a glass of Macallan in one hand and " A ghost in the glen" in the other.
Really enjoyed these short stories. I especially liked The Watcher, in Memory of Emily Manchini, First Love and Floodland. Very spooky stories that leave you looking over your shoulder before the full moon rises :) will definetly be reading more of his excellent books. I would definerly recommend these to read now for winter :)
A must read for anyone who enjoys horror, sci fi horror, or horror fantasy. Set in Scotland these seven short stories ooze with Scottish gloom, doom, and humor.
I only occasional read any sort of horror at all. Anything with ghosts and I've got to switch on all the lights in the house. But despite the full blown anxiety attack I did enjoy A Ghost In The Glen.
Of the seven tales that comprise A Ghost In The Glen, my favorite is not a classic horror story but rather will fit into the category of sci-fi horror, or horror fantasy -- and the title of that story is Floodland.
Floodland alone is worth the price of the book -- it's so interesting, so well-written, so downright scary, and reminds me of some of the best sci-fi I've read.
A Ghost In The Glen serves as a nice sampling of Pearson's wide ranging imagination and solid storytelling skill.
This collection of short dark stories set in Scotland was interesting, and I loved the imagery. Some I enjoyed more than others; my favourites are the Watcher and Floodland. I recommend it for fans of the wild, dark areas of Scotland that are looking for a shiver up the spine.
A cozy collection of short stories all taking place in Scotland.!All stories are roughly 30 pages in length. Each story was unique band fun and reminded me a bit of The Twilight Zone. Some stories were more macabre than others but each one was enjoyable.
I love short story books, but this one to me, i didn't find many of these stories to be dark. I liked the mountain story the most. Loved the scottish setting.
It almost feels criminal how few reviews this amazing collection of stories has. I devoured all seven of them in a day! Lovely to read a book set at home too
This is a really poor anthology. The prose is clunky with the dialogue particularly unconvincing. I expected more general eeriness but not one tale raised the tremor of a shiver.
