A prelude far superior than the animated movie!

I bought this in its single comic book issues, but I chosen this TPB edition to make a better overall review.

This is a comic book miniseries serving as prelude to the direct-to-video animated film “Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles”.

Creative Team:

Writers: Tommy Yune, Jason Waltrip & John Waltrip

Illustrators: Omar Dogan & Udon Studios

BETTER THAN THE MOVIE

It’s usual that this kind of comic book preludes to some movie, either live-action or animated, are a tie-in marketing trick that we fall and while it’s not a terrible reading, usually is a pale comparison to the actual movie that it’s related…

BUT

…that’s not the case here!

This comic book miniseries is a far superior and way better development of story than the one that you’d find in the animated movie (back then, in 2006),..

...that it was a huge disappointment in all senses: Stiff animation, a poor use of voice actors (like Mark Hamill) in characters without much screen time, and without concluding anything.

However, this awesome comic book miniseries has: Butt-kickin’ artwork, good narrative and a great crosspoint uniting The Sentinels (comic books & prose novels (not matter about some inconsistencies between both media and with this miniseries too) with the Third Robotech War storylines.

So, if you ever had the bad experience of watching that direct-to-video animated movie and you didn’t like it, please don’t discard this comic book miniseries, since I believe that you’ll love it, especially if you’re true fan of the Robotech franchise.

SHADOWING GAMES

The Robotech Expeditionary Force has been betrayed from within.

General T.R. Edwards is finally exposed as a traitor to the REF along with the shocking revelation that he’s collaborating with the Invid Regent, and even worse it’s that the REF just know the peak of the iceberg, since they don’t know that Dr. Lazlo Zand is still alive and working along with Edwards’ forces and the situation of Minmei is unknown.

The betrayal of Edwards have left the SDF-3 crippled and urging a massive refitting, but also, Edwards’ new Shadow Technology is forcing the REF to emulate it and add it to their own mecha and cruisers if they want to have a chance against the joined menace of Edwards’ forces and the Invid Regent…

…but the worst of all is that the unexpected exodus of Edwards’ forces made an indirect but heartbreaking loss for the Admirals Rick Hunter & Lisa Hayes.

However, General T.R. Edwards have their own secret agenda and his own plans about Earth (now controlled by the Invid Regis), and the truth may shock to the REF high command.

Don’t miss this awesome miniseries where villains will rise and heroes will fall!
