There's something strange in the Talbots' backyard, and Wishbone has perked up his ears and ready to chase the evil monster away. This takes the adventurous dog through a variety of eerie tales and splendid Halloween terrors.
I read this over and over as a kid, especially around Halloween; it was easily my favorite of the dozens of Wishbone books I read. As a grown-up, it's still enjoyable, but I was struck by how little the Oakdale parts of the story are, and how thin the plot is compared to the TV show, or the other books (as I remember them, anyway!). The focus was clearly on the book adaptations. That being said, having read it so many times, it has if nothing else led me to look up all of the adapted stories for myself.
