Shiho INADA (いなだ 詩穂 in Japanese) was born in Kanagawa Prefecture on October 17. She is a Libran with blood type B. She made her debut with Camouflage in 1994. Her best known work is Ghost Hunt.
In this volume we again see the gang going to a high school to investigate a mysterious supernatural crime, but you can't help but wonder how so many mysterious things happen without it becoming a more everyday thing for the general public. A school has a mysterious curse on a desk that causes anyone who sits at it to be harmed or die. Of course Naru & all get called in to investigate, and inevitably their lives are put in danger.
Would I recommend this? For the most part, yes. I actually liked this, despite it's moments of tedium. It's still entertaining. Maybe it's not as consistently good, but it's still worth purchasing.
Definitely don't start here if you haven't read the previous volumes -- the first half seems pretty disjointed and there is little sense of who the characters are and what their relationships are (some of them don't even have a role in the story, really). It comes together better in the second half, thought. I was pleased to have my suspicions confirmed and look forward to seeing where that goes from here.
Loving this series, I can't believe I read another volume. I doubt I'll be able to complete my Goodreads reading goal, but I tried. I'm disappointed with myself because I complete it every year, that's why I'm trying to hard to complete my goal. Who knows, I either will or won't. But there's always next year!
This is about a girl named Mai who loves to talk about ghost stories. One day she comes across and haunted house and there is a camera inside. She decides to investigate, and breaks the camera while injuring the assistant of Naru-chan. Naru-chan is a ghost hunter and forces Mai to be his assistant until she pays off the broken camera, along with waiting until his assistant recovers. They went on many adventures and Mai made many friends.
I love their squad so much, I can't get over how well they work together.
The character development of Mai is crazy, she's learning so much and she's helping out a lot. I like how she isn't just a character who is useless and does nothing to help. She stands up for what she believes in and doesn't back down if she is afraid. Naru-chan gets straight to business, and is a man of mysteries. Monk-san is awesome as always and I love how hilarious he is. Miko-san is confident even though she can't do her job right, which I love about her. Masako-san is pretty, and follows traditions. John is quiet and stays out of problems, even though he gets dragged in from time to time.
Loving this series and can't wait to see where it's heading! I'll be off to read more!
The first time I read this, I found Mai's so-called stupidity and her puppy love for Naru quite endearing. Now that I'm a grown adult, these two qualities of Mai made me realize that I have officially entered my I-dislike-teenagers-and-their-immaturity phase, lmao. Please, for the love of god Mai, stop entering places with a clear DO NOT ENTER warning. The sign is there for a reason!
Loved this one! The "relationship" between Mai and Naru is so cute!! :O My favourite character are (in order): Mai, Monk-San and then Naru. Although I kinda ship Mai+Naru, I think I ship myself with Mai more. =P
In this one the SPR team investigate a local high school in which a whole barrage of paranormal phenomena is occurring - pupils able to bend spoons, a girl possessed by a fox spirit, a desk which makes anyone who sits at it have a nasty accident....
Despite being a far more drawn out story - taking up the entire volume, there seems a lot less character - the supporting cast really sidelined - Mai and Naru are the real stars here - we delve a bit more into Mai's intuition and get tantalising glimpses of Naru's power although we learn he isn't an Onmyoji - Lin is! The plot thickens! I'm itching to find out the back story on these guys!
I like the fact that this one deals more with witchcraft than ghosts - a nice change of pace from the last volume and we learn quite a bit about Japanese magical practices.
Disappointed with the fizzle of the fox spirit idea - not even sure what was going on there, I think she was just cursed to believe she was possessed by a fox spirit - bit lame really. Otherwise quite a fun volume.
It’s fun to catch all the parts where they talk about Oliver Davis and the panel immediately focuses on Naru. The hints have been there all along! I’ve missed the SPR gang so much, so I am really enjoying my reread of this manga.
Oh, my God!! I loved this volume!! The mystery was intriguing, the build-up was nice, and the pay-off was awesome. Mai's intuition was finally categorized as latent ESP and Naru's abilities were given the spotlight as well. I love how the misunderstanding got him into trouble but there's no way this boy doesn't know a thing or two about practical Onmyou. He definitely has PK, we know that despite what Monk-san says. And him playing into the bit and presenting himself as a con man was funny but I see how he responded to Lin. I see it, boy, I see you promising your "assistant" you won't do it again. And speaking of abilities, can I say I loved how Naru showed Mai that little magic trick to help her calm down even though he was in pain himself?? And he's getting more protective of her, too?? First in the classroom, then twice in the manhole?? Ah, my heart!! And he got his first of many hospital visits, lol. AND! He gave a genuine non-sarcastic smile. Small though it was. You can be as narcissistic as you want, kid, but I see you. Hehe. Not to mention, the side story of him going, "I'll take you to the ocean, Mai... FOR WORK!" Just say you wanna spend time with her, you nerd.
Also, is it just me, or are the manga versions of Mai and Naru more... expressive? Like, Mai's crush is definitely more obvious and flamboyant, while Naru is more blatantly sarcastic?? And in this volume, he showed his age much more? When he smiled at Mai, when he gasped at Mai for telling everyone. I mean, his indignant reaction?? Hello? Adorable.
As for the side characters; how cool is Monk?? A guy from a family of monks that have their own temple, had training as a monk but couldn't commit all the way because of his freedom-loving nature, is a music producer, and works part-time as a bassist for other bands in addition to having his own band?? AND he works as an exorcist for his associates because of his monk background. Solid character! And you know what? I, too, would love to see Ayako accomplish something and have it explained why she's a "self-proclaimed" Miko instead of a legit one. I wouldn't mind if each volume goes into the background of one of the side characters. While I've forgotten a lot from the anime, which honestly enhances the reading experience, the manga keeps reminding me of things. Masako continues to be embarrassing in her crush on Naru and the boy is just done with her. lol. But I'm not finding it annoying at all, just amusing. I also continue to live for the group dynamic here. They all treat Mai like the youngest sibling and constantly rag on her, which is hilarious. Especially Monk and Ayako but if anything happens Mai's first instinct is to cling to Monk. And despite being the oldest, these two keep getting sassed by Naru. John is just a sweetheart trying to hold up the fort while Masako saunters about in her own royal way. It's a hoot. Although it's a little tragic that Naru thinks only Lin would notice his absence. And he wasn't wrong either. (And although that scene could be interpreted as him calling the others inobservant idiots, I'm more inclined towards the uncaring version because he was in too much pain to be sarcastic about it, I think.)
Ghost Hunt: Volume 3 is a good book, but I couldn't get into quite as much as Ghost Hunt: Volume 2. Although this book has a ghosts in it, they were few and far between. And I am still waiting for a good scary story. After all, these are ghosts and ghosts are supposed to be scary . . . so scare me already! Most of this story revolves around Mai and Naru, and doesn't involve the rest of the Shibuya Psychic Research team.
The book moves along at a good pace and the story is fun. Are students really getting hurt because they have all sat at the same desk? Is a ghost really causing them to get hurt? Or, is this some kind of strange coincidence? As usual, the manga is good and the translation to English flows well.
I sometimes find myself getting lost because people in the story still have Japanese names and a lot of Japanese terms are still used. When they are thrown out there like that, I struggle to remember what everything is, as I have never heard these terms before.
Overall, Ghost Hunt: Volume 3 is a good story that promises to lead us to more strange stories of ghosts and weird happenings. I look forward to seeing what Mai and Naru hunt down in Ghost Hunt: Volume 4.
The former monk tells them about a friend of his who goes to a high school where one room has what might be a cursed desk. Four people who have set there have met with the same type of accident. There have also been other incidents at the high school involving illnesses. There have also been even more odd incidents involving objects.
The possibility arises that the events could be traced to a particular curse a student put on a teacher who refused to believe her psychic abilities after she had objectively demonstrated them. Mai and Shibuya are in a room at the school when a girl seems to come through the floor from above, upside-down. She disappears before her whole body is revealed, though.
I really like Naru a lot... I wish he would get back to investigating more like the first volume, but I love how he's always like "Actually, it's this and I know it cuz I'm awesome." XD
On the other hand, I find Mai to be really obnoxious. She is definitely my least favorite character.
This story arc was kind of boring. Not a lot of things happened and it was a lot of detective work. Even in the anime this arc wasn't one of my favorites.
