When the teenaged Samantha Bennet crosses Lincoln Park on her way home from work, she doesn't expect that anything bad will happen to her.
Nothing exciting ever happens in her neighbourhood...until now.
The three men's rude comments and lewd stares make her uneasy. When they attack her, she tastes true terror for the first time in her life.
Yet even though it seems that it is Samantha herself who will be a victim tonight, the attack triggers a transformation in Sam.
What is this black matter spreading over her skin like living leather?
What is this itching burning sensation at her fingertips, fingertips which are now beginning to resemble talons...what is she turning into? What is this...Dark Thing?
The men run away in terror, leaving Samantha alone to face her supernatural change...
The urge to hunt the men down leaves the teenager with a decision to make.
How dare these men attack her - her, an innocent teenage girl who was minding her own business?
Why is she so angry?
Furthermore, why is she so...hungry?
The decisions she makes now set the foundation of the saga that is my Reaper Series.
Justice will be served by her swift hand...and it won't be for the last time.

28 books5 followersBorn in British Columbia, Canada in 1979, raised in Manitoba, Amanda Mary-Margaret Holt is the oldest of four children. She began writing at an early age, stories that always seemed to be of one paranormal genre or another. Sometimes these stories thrilled her teachers and parents...other times, they served only to horrify.
With no formal post-secondary training in English or literature studies, Amanda credits various teachers (Mr. Elliott and Mr. Ortwein, for example), her family, and her dear friend Ms. T with fostering her growth and development as an author.
Amanda worked a variety of jobs as a younger adult: she was a graphic artist, a bartender, an electrician's apprentice, a security guard, a graphic artist, a waitress, an adult novelty clerk, and at one point, even an Electrolux sales person. She recieved her Computer Programmer/Analyst diploma in 2003 and is now pursuing Bachelor of Nursing studies at the fourth-year level.
While dark fantasy is her favourite genre to write in, she has tried her hand at both mainstream erotica and contemporary romance and enjoyed those as well. So long as her heroine is a woman who is brave enough to face her darkest fears and bold enough to realize her innermost fantasies, therein lies a tale that Miss Holt aspires to tell.

Samantha is 15 years old, and taking a shortcut through the park on her way home from work when she is attacked by three young men with the intention to rape and kill her. As she begins to panic she feels a strange thing happening to her - black scaly skin begins to cover her from top to toe, and her fingernails become long sharp talons. Taking her revenge on the three men; she brutally kills them and the black skin absorbs their blood.
Unfortunately this is where the story ends! In all it was only around 30 pages long on my kindle (559 kindle locations), and while it was fairly action packed, it kind of felt like just the first couple of chapters of a book, and would have been nice if the story had continued.
What there was was okay, and it was nice and easy to read with no spelling mistakes or grammatical errors, it's just a shame that there wasn't more to it.

Heads up, it's a short story and to be based on a 15 yr old it needs to be rated R, but intense read

I really have nothing interesting to say about this book, in all honesty. I wasn't that impressed with it, and it was much like the removal of a band-aid, if you do it quickly it is less painful.

Not my cup of tea. A little too Freudian. heroine not fully developed. Story would likely appeal to teen readers.

Short read and dark. Left me wanting to know more- what is she that she turns into at night? A hybrid type vampire that hunts the evil of the night? will have to read more...

Wow, it is messed-up, scary but wonderful at the same time. I love the style the writer used - no heavy thoughts, easy and quick paced.

Wow, great start to a series. Love these vigilante books. Like the 'Death Wish' movies I think this would translate great to the screen.
