“Calling cards Arepa to Mangú.” so many references in this text brought me straight back to my childhood! I bought this book after seeing it referenced in Lorna Garcia Peña’s Dominicanidad. It’s a reflection on the cultural experiences that shape/transform our identities as Dominicans in New York City. The performance is also free to watch on YouTube, but as much as I enjoyed watching/listening afterwards, the text gave me more space to reflect on my own memories/experiences.

El libro es interesante, pero el performance es mucho mejor. Es como leer la música escrita en papel en vez de escucharla - puede ser muy interesante para ver los componentes diferentes, pero no se entiende sin ver / escuchar todo junto.

Una exploración muy interesante del paradox de in-betweenness—entre la república dominicana y los EEUU. Necesito leer y ver más obras de Josefina Baez, porque los detalles de esta son increíbles—muchos estratos de sentido.
