Joint attention is often weakly demonstrated in autistic children. These exercises serve to establish joint attention under highly contrived conditions. Once established, these rudimentary abilities will be incorporated and refined across many other exercises throughout this series. For example, extensive use of following a point and tracking is required in the selection based imitation exercises (in the ABA in various 'naming' exercises, 'pronoun' exercises and 'locations' exercises.
