Keith O'Leary has been trying to break into acting for ages. When he is offered a part in the newest cable television drama he realizes it could be the chance of a lifetime. Only it means playing a gay man and Keith, live-in girlfriend and all, is definitely straight. Or so he thought, until sexy Carl Bronson kisses him on camera. Carl Bronson, the consummate professional, never thought he'd fall for a co-star, but he has, and hard, for Keith. To Carl's amazement the feeling is mutual, and soon the sparks start to fly both on screen and off. Things are perfect until someone threatens to expose them as real lovers, placing their future in the acting business in jeopardy. Will they follow the advice of Keith's agent Adam Lewis, and deny, deny, deny their true feelings to the tabloids? Or take the chance and expose themselves, their love and possibly risk their careers? Sometimes the hardest role for an actor is real life.

This book ended so abruptly I had to check if I'd missed a page. I didn't. It's really odd - started off well, carried okay though I did pause at one point to wonder how Ms Hauser would end the story because there seemed no way out for these two actors.

Keith is waiting to make it as an actor so getting a main role in the hit series is a make or break for him. Carl, the leading man, is gorgeous and terrified of his attraction to Keith being discovered...but not as terrified as Keith. The entire story is about how these two get to act out their desire for each other on set and deal with their initial denial before giving in to the inevitable.

All that was fine. I was enjoying the story but it all ended with no resolution of any kind, just hanging there in mid-air which I thought odd for a full length e-book. Even the two guys merely expressed a decision to risk their careers for their love and the story ends there would have been normal but it didn't. I was taken through all their anxiety and angst and terror of being outed, their careers obliterated and that was it.

Maybe there's a sequel? Anyway, I'm giving it 3 stars because I do like these type of MM romances with all that tension of wondering if the other guy is gay. In this case, BOTH men never thought of themselves as gay and Keith even has a girlfriend before he falls for Charles Bronson. Oops, I mean CARL Bronson.

01/18/13: Revised rating after a couple of years of reading m/m: from 4 to 2.

Keith and Carl meet on the set of a tv show, where they both play the part of gay characters. Day after day the acting becomes real life and the two fall in love, but they are afraid of risking their careers if the truth comes out.

I really enjoyed the story because the show business world is always entertaining and the characters were likable and they had a good chemistry. If I had to analise the book and give a separate rating to the dialogue, writing, characters, story, maybe it wouldn't rate so high, but I enjoyed it a lot.

I agree with other reviewers who complained about the dialogue, I thought that the script of the show in which they are supposed to star wasn't particularly good. I also agree that there's a certain amount of shallowness, but again, the guys' working field is based on appearance and the hotness was believable.

I don't think it's a book for those who like depth and angst in their stories. If you're looking for hot and fun, it's perfect.

If you read it, you must know that there's a sequel Playing Dirty, that's why the book seems to end abruptly (the books are really like part 1 and part 2 of the same book).

G.A. Hauser comes back to the show business world that apparently she likes so much (For Love and Money, The Kiss, Love You Loveday...). The starting point is quite similar to The Kiss, Keith, a struggling actor (and not a model like in The Kiss), has the offer of his life, an offer that he can't refuse since it's probably the last chance he has; problem is that he has to play the role of a gay in a primetime cable drama, and he is not gay... or at least he thinks so. There are some hints that the reader can pick up if he wants, like the fact that his girlfriend is esthetically more like a man than a woman, or that he has an instantly attraction for his partner on the scene. Carl, the partner, is a big gay with a good heart; even if older than Keith, and with a successful role in the show business world, Carl is somewhat more innocent than Keith. He is so friendly and open, like Keith he has never had a gay experience in the past, but truth be told he is not against the idea.

The problem of them not being gay is soon overcome and the scenes they play on the stage are pretty hot, so hot that both of them start to wonder how it can be if it wasn't an act. Also Keith having a girlfriend is a soon overcome problem, since she eliminates herself from the picture repeatedly refusing Keith and in this way pushing the man toward Carl. Maybe is not so nice that Keith wanted to have sex with her only to prove his masculinity, but she didn't know it, for her is a mix of tiredness due to work and maybe also a bit of jealousy that Keith manages to have an important role while she is still waitering tables.

Of the two characters, the one that comes out (no pun intended) is Keith, he is the one who apparently takes more risk and loses more; he also has a not so nice encounter with his family that let him with the quite clear impression that he will not have their support if he decides to pursue his relationship with Carl. And it's strange, since who has a career to risk is Carl; but Carl seems to worry more for his private life, than of the public opinion: as I said before, Carl is a guy with a big heart, and also in this case, he lets his heart lead him more than his brain.

Acting Naughty is a nice tale, with the usual two main heroes that are a trademark of this authors, very pretty men who maybe are a little too vain (they always seem to love themself as much as they love the partner, and the look is always a great component of said love), but also men that are easy to emotion and that more often than not can fall in tear if that emotion is too strong.

Some recurring characters from Hauser's previous books, Adam and Jack, adds this one to the Los Angeles' saga of this author.

I wanted to like this book. From the copy, I thought I might enjoy seeing how the scenario played out. And I do have to say the foundation of the story wasn't bad, but I didn't like how it was executed.

Both main characters, Keith and Carl, have an annoying habit of acting like overly emotional, weepy women. Any time something remotely stimulating happened, there'd be an abundance of panting, declarations overemphasized with exclamation points and lots of crying.

There were moments in the story that were funny, though not always intentionally. For the most part, I found a lot of the descriptions over the top, the dialogue unnatural and usually cheesy and the development of the romantic aspect of the story severely lacking. I think this book would've been improved by stronger editing and writing that made the characters and situation seem real, or even plausible.

I think we need a new category for m/m fiction...TRANSITIONAL M/M...what I mean by this is, books that readers of m/f romance read as they transition into m/m fiction...This book exemplifies transitional m/m as all the characters are chicks with dicks (even the chicks!)...you get long adoring looks...& gay sex 101 ("when I penetrate you, you'll enjoy it because there is something there called the prostate which is like a woman's g-spot!")...declarations of lurv...swooning...crying...as I said, chicks with dicks. If you are a hardened, cynical reader of m/m then read this book with caution. If you are dipping your toe in the m/m genre for the first time, then this is the book for you!

When Keith is offered the part of a gay man on one of America’s longest running soaps, he has to decide whether he can get over his discomfort about touching another man. Realising that it would be stupid to let the chance of a lifetime pass him by, he grits his teeth and gets on with the job at hand. Turning up on set, he realises that things are much worse than he originally anticipates. Upon meeting Carl, his co-star in the show, Keith starts to question his sexuality. With every kiss and touch that the script demands, Keith has to hide his growing sexual attraction towards his gorgeous leading man. It never crosses his mind that Carl could feel the same way. Carl doesn’t seem bothered by his attraction, but having never been given any hints that his feelings are mutual, he contents himself with their burgeoning friendship. When the physical evidence of Keith’s attraction becomes apparent, things start to heat up. However, Keith has always thought of himself as straight, can he ever accept the feelings that he has towards a man? In addition, if the secret ever comes out, will they still have the career they both cherish?

Acting Naughty is the first in the Action series. Did I like it enough to read more? Sure, but I’m in no rush to do so! I enjoy M/M stories where the characters have to accept their feelings before the relationship can begin. Keith and Carl were good well-rounded characters and I actually cared about their stories. Keith’s biggest issue with his feelings for Carl was how everyone else would react to them. I can imagine that that would be the biggest issue for coming out and I was very happy when he started to accept that his feelings should come first. The sexual tension built nicely throughout the story, with them playing out their feelings on camera which inevitably amped up their desire off screen! There is no way this show would be aired pre-watershed in the UK...some of those scenes *phew* :D I liked the way the author built up their camaraderie before they started with the smexing; I sometimes feel that books fail to establish anything other than the physical relationship, and this certainly wasn’t the case here. When they finally do succumb to the inevitable...wow that is some serious chemistry! Obviously, there are some trials and tribulations, no, I’m not spoiling them, because they play a role in the plot. None of the secondary characters were particulary well built, so I actually didn’t care for any of them. This wasn’t a problem until I realised that Keith was unfaithful to his girlfriend Patty and I actually did not care, which is completely out of character for me! I do have one massive issue with this tale; the end was too sudden. I know there is a sequel, but this book was unfinished! It didn’t stop at a cliffhanger, it didn’t stop with a particular plot being finished, it just finished and EVERYTHING was left undone. It will make me read number two, but I would have preferred to read it because I wanted to, rather than I had to!

Despite the premise and how much I thought I'd like the book, I had a really difficult time staying engrossed in the story. I really don't even know why because I did really like the book. The book starts with Keith getting the part playing a gay man on a hit new television drama; he needs the job but has a girlfriend and is freaking out about having to touch another guy. Meeting his co-star, Carl, however eases some of his anxiety. Carl is kind and understanding and helps him get through various scenes, including Keith's first time naked on set.

The chemistry between the two MCs is pretty much instant and it isn't long before both men are feeling the pull to be together off set as well as on. Carl has at least thought about being with a man even if he's never acted on it but Keith struggles with the attraction and his views on his own sexuality. This tangles up with what ifs and the implications on both men's careers should anything ever get out. Overall I liked the plot of the book and the execution even if I found myself starting and stopping the book multiple times. My only real complaint is that after the MCs finally get together, the declarations of love come off as a little over the top in some places. Very small complaint in an otherwise good book.

The book started out amazing. This struggling actor hired for the only role he could get: a boyfriend for the soon-to-be-out-of-the-closet star of a soap opera. I loved the first 100 pages of it, as they got over their uncomfortableness and started to get feelings for each other. Then they had sex and the book went downhill. It went from a sweet story with a fun plot to erotica, which I am not a fan of at all. Corny sex-dialogue, pet names, the whole works. While I could understand the soap opera having bad porn dialogue, I would prefer it to stay out of the main story.
A few other pet peeves:
They called each other by their names way too often. How often do you say the name of the person you are talking to? Not 5+ times in one conversation.
The Point of View switched way too much. I don't really care to know each person's thoughts during each scene.

I am being so...harsh?...mainly because I am disappointed in everything past page 100...or whatever page it was.

Before the sex: 4 stars
Everything after: 1 star

Based on the blurb, I thought this book would be more about a couple of closeted actors trying to hide their relationship. In fact, it takes more than half the pages in this book for Keith and Carl to even realize they want to be a couple. Only at the very end are they worried about the media. They're supposedly straight guys, and this is their first same-sex attraction. There are some nice scenes of sexual tension, and when they do get together, there's some nice sexual chemistry. However, as other reviewers have pointed out, the incredible pleasure they derive from intercourse so quickly seems a bit unrealistic, and these characters have an unfortunate tendency to cuss a blue streak in the heat of passion. Previous reviewers are also justified in saying that the ending is very abrupt and leaves some loose ends. I might give the second book in the series a chance, but I'm not anxious to run out and get it or download it right now.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

I wish I liked Acting Naughty more than I did. The premise of the story held a lot of promise, but very little of it was actualized. The two MCs were likable and played well off each other, and the off-camera sex scenes were believable and didn't overpower the story, but I had a hard time believing a lot of the on-camera sex scenes. They were not handled well.

In several instances the MCs become excessively weepy and overly needy and clingy. Not what I would expect from two straight men exploring their gay side. As other reviews have said, the ending is abrupt and offsetting. I understand that it's done that way so that the reader will feel obligated to buy the other (insert number of sequels this book has) books that follow. I, however, am not sure I'll go down that path.

I give Acting Naughty two and a half stars - rounded up to three.

I enjoyed this book, I liked the characters, Keith and Carl. Carl acts on a cable show and they add Keith to be his gay partner. They soon realize their attraction is more than just acting. I liked how their relationship built, til they cant help but react. They both seem very in love, the only problem is they're both worried about what it will do to their acting careers if they come out publically as gay. They're both very sweet, and it really was hard to see how harshly they're judged by both Keith's family and Carl's friends just for acing gay on the show. None of them know the truth, that they love each other for real. The ending was very disappointing. I hate when a book is part of a series and has no real ending, only an introduction to the next book. Luckily the entire series is complete, not sure I would read the next if I had to wait for it to come out.

Action 1.

Straight actor Keith O'Leary has been given a great opportunity, a role in the new cable drama Forever Young. The only problem is that his character is gay. Luckily his co-star and on-screen lover, Carl Bronson, is patient and willing to teach him what to do. Keith never expected to become attracted to his co-star.

While an interesting idea, the actual product just seemed amateur. Keith is so childish and whiny. Carl isn't much better and he is supposed to be in his very early 30s. They are both immature in their actions and reactions. Despite my best efforts, I just couldn't root for either of these men. There is also a very abrupt ending. I presume this is meant to encourage readers to buy the second in the series, but I'm sorry, I don't think so. I like my m/m heroes to be more secure in their sexuality, even if they aren't in their relationships. 3 out of 5.

This started off slowly until the guys started working together, when I really started to enjoy it. When Keith and Carl realized their attraction was real and started acting upon it (no pun intended), I didn't want to put the book down. However, after they passed the point of no return, they were instantly in love with each other, and the oh my God I love you's started to drive me a bit nuts. I did feel bad that there seemed to not be a solution to the problems surrounding them having a real relationship and was looking forward to seeing how that all played out, as it felt like things were sure to be coming to a head in the near future. Unfortunately, the story then abruptly ends with more pledges of love.

The beginning of this book was fabulous, I loved the tension and confusion while the MC's were acting. The newness of doing something they've never done before. I liked that Carl seemed to accept it a lot easier and understood Keith's struggles.

Got to around 60% or so and I started getting annoyed with all the freaking crying, so I just kinda ignored those bits; in my head, these guys didn't cry. I get that men have emotions too, but even I don't cry this much when I'm PMS'ing.
I also didn't like the lack of support from anyone outside the studio, Hell even Keith's own gay agent tells him to stay in the damn closet!

And then... then... it ends! *Poof* THE END. I was stunned, I think I actually yelled and scared my dogs.

Hmmmm. I really liked this book. It was so exciting getting caught up in the awakening romance between two straight men. Carl and Keith are actors who are cast to play gay men in a cable TV show. The more intimate their scenes become, however, the more they come to realize that they have the same feelings for each other in real life. I loved the build up to their finally coming together, but then I think that the author didn't know where to go from there. There were so many issues left unresolved and the book ended abruptly with a "The End". Huh.

I tried really hard to like this book, but like so much of Hauser's work, it came across as overly simplistic with insipid dialogue. The troubling part is that her characterizations are usually really interesting, so I did find myself really invested in Keith and Carl, but overall, the writing just didn't hold up. The relationship is very sweet, and while I wouldn't mind reading more about these two, I think I will have to take a break from the series.

I thought the sex was pretty hot, but there were a few things that pulled me out of the story. The dialogue was a bit formal (for lack of a better word), and I still can't buy instant pleasure when recording anal for the first time with mi imal prep. I will probably get the next in the series though, because I want to know what happens.

I'm not sure if this was supposed to be humorous, but I found it hilarious because it was so over the top. The main characters, who are supposed to be straight outside of the TV series they are in, act like overly emotional women and not at all "straight" (or at least, the stereotypical perception of it, which is supposed to enhance their front).

Some of the "on screen" sex (during the show) was hot, but otherwise, I couldn't get into the characters, the dialogue (no one uses names anywhere near as often as these two did,) or the story. I had tried a couple of Hauser's freebies and didn't enjoy them, but wanting to give her a fair shake with a longer work like this. I'm sorry to say I'm just not into her style.

I couldn't tell the characters apart because they both acted the same and had the same thoughts. The story could have been improved if the progression from being straight to falling in love with a man was slowed down and we saw more than pages and pages of non-communication as they denied their status to themselves and each other.

Actors fall in love with their costars all the time, right? What happens when your costar is the same sex as you? And you both happen to be straight?

A fun romp that felt like it ended too suddenly. Definitely needed better editing for grammar, but unlike some books I've read, it wasn't so bad as to take me out of the story.

It was an okay read and I wouldn't have mind reading more about how things turned out for Keith and Carl, but I won't be reading the others since I didn't realize the rest of the series would be threesomes and more:(
